THE Kagayha-an Eagles Club held its 2016 induction of officers and turnover ceremony last Friday, January 15, at Pryce Plaza.

The occasion also marked the birthday celebration of newly installed president Gary Buendia.

In his prepared speech that was read before the group, keynote speaker 4th Infantry Division commander Maj. Gen.

Oscar Lactao (who excused himself from the event) urged the newly installed officers “to be a beacon to the other members.”

Lactao also noted that the camaraderie nature of the Eagles is for the betterment of the society

in this country.

Buendia took over from the colourful 2015 reign of immediate past president Bernard Tubiano who graciously recalled the many projects that the Kagayha-an Eagles Club has initiated the past year.

Little Me Academy breaks ground for new building and new campus Consolacion Campus to be ready by June, 2016 The only school in Cagayan de Oro which guarantees ‘your child reads at 3’ breaks new ground for a new and expanded campus and school building today.

The one hectare lot in Manuel Vega Street, Robillo Subdivision will be initially occupied by a 3-storey building which will be developed in phases. The ground floor will house offices and 14 classrooms for Grades 1-10, while the second floor will have 20 classrooms to house the expected enrollment increase of multiple sections as the K-12 curriculum continues to be implemented. The third floor will be developed as demand dictates.

The new campus will accommodate the new and expanded sections of the

grade school and high school while the pre-school and other elementary sections will remain in the original Little Me Campus in Kauswagan.

Expected to grace the ground breaking at the new site and project presentation later in the afternoon at the Centrio Mall Activity Center are the regional and city education officials and heads of school associations.

Among them: Dr. Elena M. Borcillo, CESO VI, Dept. of Education (DepEd) Cagayan de Oro Schools Division Superintendent; Dr. Jean S. Macasero, DepEd Private Schools Division Supervisor; Dr. Mary Ann Allera, Sr. High School Chief, Dr. Rogelio Evangelista, DepEd-X QUAD Chief and Mrs. Ma. Dulce T. Potenciano, head for the

academe of the Cagayan de Oro Local School Board.

Also invited to join are Ma. Kristine M. Lasque, President of the Cagayan de Oro Association of Private Elementary Schools (CAPES); Suzette Caeline Maandig, President of the Association of Private Secondary Schools in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental, (APSSCOMOR), and Palaran Algar, Private Schools and School Administrators Association of the Philippines (PRISAAP) Region X President.

The perspectives of the new campus and building will be made public in a presentation to be made at the Activity Center of Centrio Mall later in the afternoon.

aged 2-6 years old, Little Me Academy has come a long way as it celebrates its 10th anniversary this year with over 300 students now enrolled at the pre-school, elementary and junior high school levels.

Real life couple Percival N. Olandesca and Ramonette L. Olandesca hail from Iligan City but chose to set up their learning center in Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro in September, 2006. Despite the boom in enrollment primarily driven by their proprietary reading skills system developed by the couple in-house, the school still maintains its one teacher to 12 student ratio for the preschool and primary levels, and one teacher to 25 students for Grades 4-10.

Besides the classrooms and offices, the new facility

will also house an expanded library; science, speech and computer laboratories; audio visual room and of course a chapel, Little Me Academy being a child centered school community from which students can grow to become morally upright, academically excellent and socially responsible citizens.

With its growing track record in academics and sports, the new campus will provide free reign to students to indulge and develop in extra-curricular activities such as campus journalism, campus ministry, visual and performing arts, public speaking and of course sports, especially mentored by Sir Ike, who has actively participated in Philippine national football games.

We stayed at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel. You can never go wrong with The Ritz. Beautiful 5 star hotel, clean rooms, good food, nice location and great service.

It’s best to join a tour when you visit Beijing to make it more convenient as not everyone in Beijing speaks English.

When you join the tour, you'll have tour guides to explain to you everything you see. But if you plan to go around by yourself, you can always make your itinerary before going then just ask your hotel concierge to write the places you want to visit in Chinese so that you could show it to the cab driver. Don’t forget to also ask them to write their hotel name in Chinese so you could go back to your hotel by cab as some cab drivers couldn’t understand the English names of the

The Great Wall of China

when you visit Beijing.

The Great Wall of China - It’s one of the greatest wonders of the world. It was generally built to protect empires from invasions. We visited the most popular section which is the Badaling. When we arrived, I was amazed at how it was built. Made of stones, bricks, woods and others. Thousands of people visit this everyday.

So much history and picture perfect.

Forbidden City - It was the Chinese Imperial Palace. Home of the Emperors. There are many halls and palaces there so visit them all if you can to know more about their significance and cultural

background. Too much walking though when you visit this place. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water with you.

Tiananmen Square - Upon exiting The Forbidden City, you could then visit this large square where parades and rallies are held. Located in the heart of Beijing.

Summer Palace - They say that this was the playground or summer retreat of the Emperors during their time. You can see the beautiful halls, gardens, pavilions, bridges, temples, lake and so on. Must visit.

This is actually cheaper than joining the tour.

Elmer and I had so little time to go around so what we did was we rented a car from the hotel with a chauffeur for the whole day. We went to all the destinations in my list in one day.

I just chose the top destinations like The Great Wall of China, Forbidden City, Summer Palace and Tiananmen Square. It cost us more but it was worth it as we were able to visit all in my list in one day, hasslefree.

On our second day, we squeezed in a little shopping. We also checked out their popular exotic street food at Wangfujing Snack Street with a selection of fried insects, scorpions and so on. We didn’t try anything though. But if you’re a big adventurer, you will have fun there.

We just had room service for the whole trip.

What does it mean being a refugee? Very clear: it’s someone who flees to a place of safety.

Since almost one year, millions of refugees are fleeing to Europe. We all know the reasons. But Europe indeed reaches its limits. Sad to say. I am writing this as German columnist for different Philippine publications.

My heart is bleeding while observing the situation in my home country. On the other side, I am also trying to understand the refugees’ motives.

Fact is: Now also Austria joins Germany in sending back refugees. Austria’s interior minister has said her country will no longer allow refugees to pass freely through its borders. From next week, those who do not wish to seek asylum in Austria or Germany may be sent back to Slovenia.

Austria announced on Friday (January 15, 2016) that it will begin next week to refuse entry to migrants seeking to pass through to Scandinavia.

Following Germany’s lead, Vienna plans to

send as many refugees as possible back to its southern border. “Right now on the AustrianGerman border, only those seeking asylum in Germany are being allowed in. Those who want to go further are being turned back,” Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner said in a radio interview.

Hundreds of thousands of migrants and refugees have streamed through Austria and into Germany as they flee conflict and poverty in the Middle East, Afghanistan, and North Africa. Around 90,000 have applied for asylum in Austria itself, but many more wish to go on to Germany or even further north to Denmark, Sweden, and Finland.

Criticism of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s open-door policy reached a fever pitch after a mass of sexual assaults occurred in the city of Cologne on New Year’s Eve, many of them at the hands of recent immigrants. Since then, Germany has down

Of course, and here I strongly agree: there is a concern over crime.The rising negative sentiment appears in part a reflection of hundreds of alleged sexual assaults on women by North African and Arab men on New Year’s Eve, with nearly one-third of respondents saying the attacks had an impact on their opinion of refugees. hen I was a little kid I think I have watched so many pageants that all I wish was that maybe someday I will be one.

To the fact that I am not a beauty queen material. I am too short for the height.

But that did not stop me I have joined few pageants from here and there but that was only from school, no big deal. But I was always like to answer pageantry questions I don’t know why. But anyway the subject it is not about me it is about someone I got to know when she was crowned Miss Universe last year. Miss Pia Alonzo Wutrzbach is a true born kagayanon. Born September 24, 1989 once professionally known as PIA ROMERO is a Filipina German actress, model and beauty queen was crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2015 at the Binibining Pilipinas 2015 pageant last March 15, 2015 and later crowned as Miss Universe 2015 on December 20,

2015. Such an honor to have a filipina crowned on such a prestigious pageant.

Thus on May 2nd off last year I had the honor of preparing the queen’s homecoming.

Sean Oliver Moreno, the City Mayors son is very good friend of mine and he ask if I could prepare it with extensive 2 weeks.

I jumped in and challenged myself that I could do it.

From the welcome from the airport to the convoy security to the courtesy to the meet greet to the motorcade to dinner and all of which pertaining of her coming to the city. We had to approach sponsors but with minimal time constraint we were very grateful that SM City offered to sponsor her flight and arranged negotiations with BB. Pilipinas pageantry. But inspite of the situation she came and was welcomed vigorously of the Cagayanons.

It was a specular day I had to wake up about 4 am and

drive to the airport to facilitate the media crew and arrange the security and made sure the banner and preparation were all set. You see Pia Wurtzbach has represented Cagayan de Oro City as her Hometown.

I have few pictures of her when she was in grade school in Corpus Christi right where my daughter also goes to school.

I have learned that she went to Kong Hua School at her primary too.Her mother was a pure bred Iliganon and her grandparents parents business was based there. But after her parents split they have live at Golden Village in Carmen. So that was the origin of her. When i came and met with her in the airport, I was stunned by how beautiful she is. Perfect teeth, perfect posture, perfect body and very warm personality. She was very friendly and very humble. Chatting with her at the ariport to the car until having breakfast with her. It was so overwhelming

that I am mesmerized by her each time she speaks. She changes outfits all the time all look good on her.

I happened to just hang out with her at her hotel room and shes amazing. I was observing her on how she grooms herself.

The eyelashes should be set and her teeth were so white and straight. Her hair was perfectly set with no hair and make up artist along. She said she is so use to take care of herself because she tried BB. Pilipinas 3 times and she giggled. It

was just so casual talking to her like she was a good old friend. It was very challenging because all I had was 3 team players for this event.

I had 3 wonderful friends who helped me out. Tina Pabelic and Darryl Redondo and of course Sean Moreno. SM City team prepared for meet and greet with the fans. All in all it was a great chance of opportunity to get to know her and the pride of knowing her now and what she has achieved. When I interviewed her. I

asked Pia what advice can you give to all the little girls and girls alike to aspire of becoming a beauty queen like you she answered very confident saying, I want all the girls to know that it doesnt matter how many times we fail whats important is how to try and try again regardless of peoples judgement. We are the captain of our destiny. That alone brings a lot of hope to all the women and to aspire and to achieve greater things. For me, PIA WURTZBACH, sikat ka!
