ime was when the clubhouse of the Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club was mostly patronized by golfers. Which is not surprising, considering it sits a good 500 meters away from a guarded gate to the exclusive Pueblo de Oro Estates and next door to the 18-hole, par-72 championship golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones II International, not to mention a good 10 kilometers from downtown Cagayan de Oro. Inaugurated May 5, 1998 by President Fidel V. Ramos, himself an avid golfer, the course has been hailed as one of the finest in the Philippines with a majestic driving range, clubhouse, tee houses and Jenny Chua & Helen Heinsohn with the Pueblo de Oro practice putting greens. Golf & Country Club Council and members. Golf expert Brent Kelly defines "clubhouse" as the main building at a golf course where golfers first head to when arriving at the course. The clubhouse usually contains the pro shop where golfers check Lengua Concitas in and pay, and some kind of food and drink service (full-scale dining, snack bar or simply drinks in a fridge). He notes how the clubhouse in larger golf clubs, also has a conference room and a bar or lounge, and locker rooms for golfers (http://golf.about.com/cs/ golfterms/g/bldef_clubhouse.htm) All this the Pueblo de Oro Clubhouse has but heading into its 17th year and after two concessionaires, it was beginning to grow “long in the tooth”, so to speak, thus the smiles on the faces of club members and visiting golfers when Chris Coffee Cuisine took over the clubhouse concession early this year. “I proposed to Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club to completely renovate the entire clubhouse Filet Mignon so as to bring in not only golfers and residents but Steak guests and visitors from outside the golf course and estates as well,” said Jenny Chua, who together with Helen Grace Heinsohn and Virginia Bruderer, form the dynamic trio that’s been turning heads and palates with their complete “inside-out” makeover of the clubhouse. Ms. Chua takes care of the business side of things and the kitchen, while Ms. Heinsohn organizes the marketing and functions, especially for clients outside the estates and golf club, and Ms. Bruderer is charged with liaisoning with clients within the golf estates and club.

hink a minute…A man was cleaning his car with a special brush when a little girl who had been watching him said, “My daddy has a brush like that to clean his car too.” “Really!” said the man. “What kind of car does your daddy have?” The little girl answered: “Oh, he hasn’t got the car yet, but he’s got the brush to clean it.” Well, I suppose you have to start somewhere! The important thing is that you do get started. And to do that, we first have to decide what kind of life we want. It’s strange how many of us want to live forever, when we can’t even decide what to do with our life now! Like the guy who said: “I’m going to stop putting things off, starting tomorrow.” You see, even if others have made decisions for you, you can still decide how you’ll respond and handle the life that’s been handed to you. You still have control of your
own attitudes. Happiness is an attitude and choice, no matter what situation you’re in. Remember, you can always find someone worse off than you whom you can help. It’s only when we stop looking at our own problems and reach out to make others happy, that we ourselves can be truly happy. But if you choose not to make a decision, that also is your decision you’ll live with. There are many smart, talented people who have never enjoyed the success they could have, simply because they could not make a decision and discipline themselves to follow through with it. Remember, if your life doesn’t change, it’s going stay the same! It’s that simple. So to move on from where you are, you must first decide where you’d rather be. et me answer t he following question: What consequences Greece’s bankruptcy may entail? Let’s do the job probably! The new government in Athens is holding on to its position that it wouldn’t seek an extension of the country’s bailout program. Experts say this stance could lead to Greece’s bankruptcy and its exit from the Eurozone. Greece’s international lenders insist that Athens should accept an extension of its bailout program. However, the country’s new prime minister, Alexis Tsipras, can “swallow this bitter pill only if it is well-flavoured,” said Jörg Krämer, chief economist at German “Commerzbank”. “A compromise might involve extending the maturity of bilateral loans to 50 years, suspending debt servicing for the first 10 years and reducing further the already low interest rates on Greek debt,” Krämer stressed in an international television interview.
A d d i t i o n a l l y, t h e Eurozone could propose an exchange deal to Athens, the economist added. It could involve backflipping from the original demands mandating Greece to undertake privatizations and trimming down public services, if in return the new Greek government cracks down on tax evasion and widespread corruption, which was in any case one of the main electoral planks of the ruling party, Syriza, Krämer noted. The EU could also pay the final installment of the aid package amounting to 1.8 billion Euros ($2 billion) as part of a compromise, he stressed. If the next meeting of Eurozone finance ministers, due to take place on February 16, 2015 fails to agree on a way forward to resolve the stand-off, then we would have to significantly increase the likelihood of a Greek default and exit from the monetary union, the German bank economist underlined. And a looming Greek
default would also lead to the European Central Bank (ECB) turning off liquidity supply to the country’s banks as the bonds held by these financial institutions would become worthless. The ECB’s statutes don’t allow it to support an insolvent banking system. Greece would be “switched off ” from the ECB money supply, thus effectively forcing the country out of the currency union. One alternative for Greece is to reintroduce the drachma, the nation’s currency before entering t he Eurozone. Many experts believe this is the best way for Greece to regain its competitiveness as a drastically devalued drachma could boost the crisis-stricken country’s tourism sector besides reviving the moribund economy’s exports. The negative side, however, is that it also makes the country’s imports much more expensive. A n e w, d e v a l u e d currency could be a boon for Greece’s tourism industry.
But, is the former Greek currency Drachma is an option? Moreover, there are other problems. Even if Greece were to exit the Eurozone, its debts would still remain - in Euros and they would have to be repaid. This already high debt would go through the roof, as Greeks would have to repay Euro-denominated debts through a new and devalued currency. While this scenario may prove catastrophic for Greek banks, international creditors to Greece could also face the risk of a total loss of their claims. A n ot h e r p ote nt i a l danger is the so-called bank runs, if the Greeks withdraw massive amounts of money from their bank accounts in a bid to hold on to their Euros. Such a development would trigger a collapse of the nation’s banks, leaving the entire Greek financial system in disarray. Yes. very hard times can be noticed at the horizon. The Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has endorsed the Philippine Tour of the famous Gregorian Choir of Paris fromFeb. 19-27. The Choir is scheduled to perform at the Ayala Centrio Mall in Cagayan de Oro City on February 25 at 6PM. For the first time ever, the prestigious ensemble will be performing in the Philippines to spread a spiritual message of hope and solidarity following the spate of natural and man-made upheavals in the country. It aims to echo through actual Gregorian chanting the resilience of the Filipino spirit. The concerts and masses of the Sacred Liturgy are also meant to promote the cultural heritage of the Church through its music tradition. As Cagayan de Oro City’s patron saint, St. Augustine of Hippo said: “Qui Bene Cantat Bis Orat” (who sings well prays twice). In a post on its website, the French Embassy in Manila said, “For the first time ever, the prestigious ensemble will be performing in the Philippines to spread a spiritual message of hope and solidarity especially after moments of natural and man-made upheavals in the country.” Created in 1974, the Gregorian Choir of Paris gathers musicians from all over the world to preserve and to spread the sacred chanting tradition of the Gregorian chant. Some 26 singers, both
male and female, will be coming to the Philippines featuring the acclaimed French organist Pascal Marsault. The singers come from France, Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Colombia, Madagascar, Lithuania, Chile, and Republic of Korea. This ensemble is comprised of two distinct entities: the male Choir and the female Choir, which was created 20 years later as “The Gregorian Choir of Paris – Female Voices.” The male group sings at the Notre-Dame du Val-de-Grâce Church in Paris. The Female Voices interpret regularly the Gregorian repertoire within the liturgy of the Saint-Germain l’Auxerrois Church in Paris, as well as in festivals of sacred chants both in France and abroad. The choir has toured Japan, Colombia, Egypt, Russia, China et Korea, Lebanon, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Italy and Switzerland. These tours are virtual “pilgrimages”, which aim to spread the musical and spiritual message of the Gregorian chant. 450 years of the Agustinians in the Philippines (1565-2015) The Philippine Tour is the choir’s contribution to the historic celebration of the 450th year of the presence of the Augustinians in the Philippines (1565-2015).
Being the first Catholic missionaries in the country with some 150 churches all over the country, the influence of the Augustinian order has a played a key role in Philippine history and culture. The succeeding concerts entitled Virgo Mater Gloriosa will be held in Ayala Malls throughout the country with a program centered on the all-encompassing love of the Virgin Mary.
