A GRANDIOSE WELCOME BY DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM X TO THE FOREIGN TOURISTS ABOARD M/S CALEDONIAN SKY A By Joe Palabao/BWM Vice President for Marketing

grandiose and spectacular welcome was witness and enjoyed by the eighty four (84) American tourists and twelve (12) crew members on- board M/S Caledonian Sky last February 21, 2015 at the Cagayan de Oro City. The warm welcome was led by the Region’s Tourism Czar-Director Catalino ‘Butch’ E. Chan 111 of the Dept. of Tourism X. The tourists were so enthralled and happy as they enjoyed the ethnic dances and folkloric mesmerizing performances from the Mindanao University Science & Technology (MUST) Gintong Ani Dance Troupe moderated

by Leo Palmones. It was a two-hour nonstop dance performance and awesome entertainment that made the tourists so giddy and some of them jammed with the dances of the performers. After breakfast, seventy four (74) of the passengers who earlier availed of a Cagayan de Oro tour package disembarked and were given welcome leis led by Ms. Jojo Roque of the Dept. of Tourism, prompting them to remark that Cagayan de Oro leg of their Philippine visit was the grandest welcome they ever had. They were so impressed and some were teary-eyed as they expressed their happiness.

The Key symbolizing the opening of the City to the tourists was handed by the City Government to the Captain of M/S Caledonian Sky and Zegrahm Expedition Representative for the tourists to freely enjoy their one day stint in the City of Golden Friendship assisted by the DOT X Director Butch E. Chan 111 and facilitated by Jules Baril – Tourism Development Executive of the Mediterranean Cruises and Travels and the concurrent President of Cagayan de Oro Travel and Tours Association (COTTA). After the welcome entertainment, the seventy (74) tourists who opted

the additional land tour boarded four RTMI buses and first went on a whitewater rafting exhilarating experience, then a trip to Mapawa Nature Reserve, to Malasag Eco-Village, in here the tourists were entertained with ethnic dances, then to Cogon Market and lastly to Museo de Oro. A folkloric museum opened in August 1967 with a display of arrays of relics of the Bukidnon and Maranao cultures, paintings and ethnographic artifacts that depicts the ancient stories of the origin of the world and man in mythic tradition. The tourists were then transferred to Las Cas-

tilla Museum, a lifestyle museum wherein Philippine Heirlooms and Antiques in the 20th Century can be seen . It is dedicated to the conservation and preservation of the historical and cultural heritage found in the personal memorabilia of the founder of Liceo de Cagayan University of the Pelaez Family of Cagayan de Oro City, they also visited the Bulua Stoneware Pottery. danced and danced with the performers. DOT X Singing Ambassadors-the Minstrels of the East entertained with their songs that are so soothing and entertaining that those who were resting on board can’t help but really came down the lower decks and viewed the performers. American tourists were so emotional as they were about to bid goodbye. On board, the crew with a mixture of Filipino and Scandinavian nationalities were so touched, they could not hold their feelings, some were teary-eyed and don’t want to leave as the boat was to depart 6:00 P.M. Northern Mindanao really showed an exceptional warm welcome to these tourists. Finally, the Cruise ship after emotional good byes between the American tourists and the people of Northern Mindanao at 7:00 P.M. the cruise ship departed for Camiguin Province. To them, Northern Mindanao gave them the best welcome entourage they ever had during the span of their tour from Indonesia down to the Philippines and its only in Cagayan de Oro that they found the real essence of being tourists.
