From an interview with Sunstar Cagayan de Oro, Atty. Pag-IBIG readies Calamity Loan for members affected

by Typhoon Nona Pag-IBIG Fund Board of Trustees Chairman Atty. Chito M. Cruz said recently that Pag-IBIG Fund is ready to assist its members affected by the havoc wreaked by Typhoon Nona.

“As soon as affected local government units issue Resolutions declaring their areas under state of calamities, Pag-IBIG branches in the vicinity will immediately start accepting applications for calamity loan,” said Atty. Cruz.

As of December 21, the provinces of Northern Samar, Albay, Sorsogon, and

Oriental Mindoro, and the Municipality of Magsaysay in Occidental Mindoro have already issued Resolutions declaring their areas under state of calamity.

Under Pag-IBIG guidelines, members residing in areas declared under state of calamity may file for a calamity loan application at the nearest Pag-IBIG office within 90 days from the date of declaration of the state of calamity.

Finding the ‘smart’ phone that fits perfectly in your hand Smartphones have transitioned from being merely a communication device to an all-in-one mobile technology that complements the lifestyle of different people. The Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) Science and Technology (S&T) Fair for the Mindanao Cluster got underway in Zamboanga City from December 3-5, 2015 with focus on S&T’s impacts on the rubber, mining and food industries, including halal.

The fair showcased the many benefits of DOST’s Small Enterprise Upgrading Program or SETUP via project visits to program beneficiaries Philippine Pioneer Rubber Product Corp.

(PPRPC) and Monmon Bakeshoppe and Snack Haus in Zamboanga.

Organized in 2000 as a federation of six agrarian reform communities, PPRPC provides milling services to rubber-producing cooperatives, rubber farmers and traders.

With SETUP’s assistance, the company has increased production by 25%, provided better quality and faster service

to rubber farmers and traders, became compliant to ISO 2000 quality standards, and generated 23 additional employment from 127 to 150 employees.

Monmon Bakeshoppe was also given assistance through upgrading of the bakery facility to meet

the growing demand of customers. It increased gross sales by 11.3%, upgraded its product packaging, and now employs eight additional employees aside from the previous five regular workers.

The S&T Fair also saw the launching of various DOST initiatives, such as the rubber testing laboratory inside

ROQUIETA CITY For six consecutive years, Cagayan de Oro Athletic Association (COAA) has proven she is Northern Mindanao region's undisputed overall champion in basic education school-based sports.

COAA Rafters bested 13 other divisions of schools with 217 medals and emerged overall champion in the five-day Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association (NMRAA) games in this city which ended today.

"COAA has the perpetual trophy for several years now," said Department of Education 10 human resource development division chief Raymond S.

Wurtzbach’s predecessor Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega took four months from her crowning last January to go back to her home country of Colombia by April. After landing at the country’s capital Bogota, it took her three more days to reach her hometown of Barranquilla.

When Wurtzbach was crowned Bb. Pilipinas 2015 in March, it took her two months to reach Cagayan de Oro, the hometown she registered when she took part in the competition three years in a row and eventually won.

Local organizers said it took two months for Wurtzbach to reach Cagayan de Oro because Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. was the one in charge of her schedule.

Despite that, Wurtzbach remained to opt Cagayan de Oro as her hometown when she joined Bb. Pilipinas 2013 up to 2015.

Although Bb. Pilipinas candidates

were never sent by any local government unit (LGU) and have the sole option to choose which hometown to represent, Wurtzbach decided on Cagayan de Oro but she spent most of her childhood here immediately after she was born in Germany.

When Wurtzbach entered Bb. Pilipinas 2015 competition, she was living in Quezon City, Metro Manila. But of the 34 candidates, eight had already registered their hometowns as Metro Manila – three from Quezon City alone.

Apart from spending her childhood here until fourth grade, Wurtzbach had no other residency except Quezon City although the family frequently flew to Germany every now and then. Thus, it was only rational for her to register Cagayan de Oro as her hometown.

Now many Kagayanons can’t wait to see Wurtzbach in her full Miss Universe regalia.

But as San Juan would say, that would entirely be at the disposal of the Miss Universe Organization.
