CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The e-Education of Project of Japan reached another achievement for the benefit of schoolchildren in Cagayan de Oro. Through the efforts of the group of young professional volunteers from Japan, e-Education has enlisted the help of Casio to sponsor a seminar for Grade 11 math teachers in Cagayan de Oro from both the public and private school sector. In the seminar, lecturer Dr. Rodulfo Aunzo Jr. introduced
the participants to the new Casio ClassWiz series which make easier for students to tackle their math problem solving dilemmas. Featuring a high resolution LCD technology, ClassWiz makes it possible to display on the screen twice the number of characters in normal size and six times the number in small size compared with previous models. Uy did. After graduating as a business student in Xavier University, Rochelle immediately took up a crash culinary course at Culinary Institute of Cagayan de Oro (CIC), owing to her passion of
food when she was young. In this interview last Sunday, Rochelle recalled that the family would cook food by themselves and would shy away from caterers during parties. “We really love to cook because we can control the ingredients, the tastes.” After graduating from the culinary course, an opportunity whipped by. It was the entrepreneurial instinct in Rochelle that clicked when she saw an empty spot at the second level of Cagayan Town Center. Conveniently located at the corner of Luna and Vicente Roa St., CTC is just the right place for Rochelle’s debut investment. And so Espressini Café was born. The family was instantly supportive of Rochelle’s endeavors. Her aunt Ann Jeanette joined in the financial

Cebu Pacific boosts frequencies in select international routes Leading Philippine airline Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB) increases the number of flights between the Philippines and select international routes, on the back of higher demand during the peak yuletide season. From the fourth quarter of 2017 until the first three months of 2018, CEB will add frequency in selected routes in Japan, Vietnam and Indonesia. From the current five times weekly (Sun/Tue/Wed/Thurs/
Sat), CEB will fly six times a week (Sun/Tue/Wed/Thurs/Fri/ Sat) between Manila and Osaka, Japan starting November 3, 2017 until December 06, 2017. The Manila-Osaka route will increase further to daily operations by December 15, 2017 to March 2018, in time for the Christmas season. For the Manila-Nagoya route, CEB will fly six times a week (Sun/Mon/ Tue/Thu/Fri/Sat), up from the current four times weekly (Sun/
Tue/Thu/Sat), starting October 29, 2017. For Tokyo (Narita), on the other hand, CEB will boost frequency by 100%, from the current seven times a week, to 14 times weekly, starting October 29, 2017 until March 24, 2018. CEB will also increase flights to and from Bali (Denpasar), Indonesia from the current four times a week to five times weekly, starting December 04, 2017 until March 06, 2018.

Workaday - life We are all workers. Whether we work in a plush carpeted office as executives or managers, in a hot and noisy assembly-plant as factory-hands or as house-wives at home. Why do we work? Why do we slug five or six days a week (or even more?) for eight or more hours at a stretch? The church has had quite a lot to say about work and especially, the rights of the workers. And when you get through the church jargon, you’ll find statements on minimum wages for workers, needs for leisure and social benefits. It is the Book of Genesis which tell us that work is God’s gift to human beings. God gave us the will, power and intelligence to “fill the earth and subdue it” and not just talk about seeing the wild beasts, the fruits and grains... . We are given the enormous task of shaping the earth, whether as machinist in a textile factory, or as clerk in court. The important message is: Work is for man (and woman) and not man (and woman) for work! Through work, man develops himself, his personality and his sense of self-worth. It is also through work that man produces goods and services contributing and participating in the development and society. In the encyclical Laborem Exercens (on human work), Pope Emeritus John Paul II made it clear that there should be just remuneration for the work of an adult who is responsible for a family and this means enough money for the breadwinner to feed, clothe and maintain his partner and children, with provisions “for security for his future”. We know the church cares. But the church
is not our employer. H ave M y Say In daily life, there are our bosses and companies which dictate our wages, our increments and our social benefits. What happens, if we have bosses who feel they own us; bosses who Klaus Doring demand over-time from us and who are more worried abut cutting company costs than about our wages? Pope John Paul II saw these problems long time ago as conf licts between labour and capital and the strongly opposed exploitation of the workers by entrepreneurs who want to maximize profits by giving low wages. The late Pope called the Trade Union an indispensable element of social life especially in modern industrialized societies “with the task of being a mouthpiece for the struggles for social justice for the just rights of working people”. If you think this is the beginning to sound radical, hang on, there’s more. Workers, he said, should be allowed to strike without being subjected to personal penal sanctions for taking part in a strike. ot everyone who buys an SUV plans to take it off-road. For most of of us, just the thought of owning a vehicle that can take you through some rough spots is enough to justify spending the additional premium. Well, why not? Most of our roads, even in urban areas, are anything but smooth anyway. The Suzuki Grand Vitara may be classified as one of those “softroaders”. It is a step up from the common sedan but not as cumbersome to drive in congested areas as a chunky 4x4. It may not compare to the capability of a
full-on off-roader but it has ample grunt and ground clearance to take on quite a few obstacles in its path. The Grand Vitara is propelled by a 2.393 cc, 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 168 hp @ 6000 rpm and 227 Nm @ 3800 rpm. The mill is matted to a 4-speed (gate-type) automatic transmission with an A/T power switch. As with most Suzukis I’ve tested, pressing this button gives you a little bit of boost when additional power is needed. With a ground clearance of 200 mm, it may not be designed to cross rivers and streams but it can certainly traverse flooded city streets
during monsoon rains. Make no mistake though, this machine still allow a resonable amount of fun when you decide to wander off the beaten path. I’ve spent around 80% of the time in heavy traffic and I was able to achieve an average of 8.3 kilometers to a liter. With a fuel tank capacity of 66 liters, you would be able to do a great deal of exploring before worrying about running out of gas. In the concrete jungle, driving the Grand Vitara is a blast,handling is light and precise. Squeezing in through narrow gaps in traffic won’t be a problem, just be
mindful of the large side mirrors. The ride is a bit on the firm side but the trade-off is the excellent composure when taking corners. You’ll find driving on twisty mountain roads quite entertaining. Speaking of which, this elegant compact
SUV is loaded with technology to keep your passengers from boredom when stuck in traffic. It comes with an androidready touchscreen entartainment system which not only plays music from multiple sources, you can also watch movies via DVD or USB. Heck, your kids can even sing-along to Moana tunes through Youtube. Morever, the auto climate control system did an amazing job of keeping all occupants comfy amidst the terrible summer heat. The Grand Vitara offers an impressive
398 liters of boot space. If all 5 seats are not going to be occupied, the split-folding second row gives way to allow a total of 758 liters of cargo space. This definitely puts the “U” in SUV. The Grand Vitara Special Edition variant you see on the photos is priced at P 1,210,000 and it comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and gorgeous 18-inch wheels all with disc brakes. Another variant with 17-inch wheels is available at P1,160,000 but if you are in the market for an elegantly sporty SUV, always go with more grandeur.
