Prejudices give a sense of pride in our world, Try to make a fundamental and common definition of “prejudice”: it’s an opinion, of course, favorable or unfavorable (more often the latter!). Many times, it’s an opinion formed without fair examination of facts.

Prejudice creates biases, bad influences, and inquiries.

Do you still remember any election campaigns? What a shame sometimes!

A possible correction afterwards is seldom given or will be even rejected.

Ver y of ten prejudices become coarse, rude and gross generally. Got the latest news from the political nation’s drama?

In all parts of our globe we find an ethical hierarchy.

It’s an indirect status with f ixe d judgements and

points of view. S ocial distance and discrimination predominate and make it easier to use categories such as “race”, “nation” or “culture”. Social differences have been built up.

Gays and lesbians are “unnatural” (?), all black people are “dirty” (?), all white people are “rich”?

- Heaven forbid! But I experienced it myself many times: I stayed in Israel sometime in 1978 and was not really welcomed by the people, because of my”Nazi-roots” (though I was born 1953!). Later I have been rejected from the Golan Heights, because I came from (enemy!)

Israeli territory. Staying in South Africa sometime in 1980, I experienced the terrible racism and fascism of the former apartheid government and its painful effects and consequences.

Most racial prejudices

have its roots from the heritage of colonial supremacy. Justification of slavery goes back to the 17th century. In early colonial history skin color was not the main reason, it was the paganism of original inhabitants in A m e r i c a , A f r i c a , an d Australia.

Terms such as “Indian” and “Negro” can be even found in the literature: the good-natured Indian variant “Winnetou” (Karl May, 1842-1912, Germany) or “Friday” (Freitag), the noble savage in “Robinson Crusoe” (Daniel Defoe, 1660-1731, England), or how about “Uncle Tom” (Harriet Beecher-Stowe, 1811-1896, USA).

Po l i t i c a l c o n f l i c t s between “white colonial supremacies” and “colored s u b j e c t s” h a v e b e e n explained and described as racial segregation -

many times instigated by Christian missionaries.

Innumerable examples in world history proved brutal force and power up to genocide.

Prejudices? “Love your neighbor as yourself !”

(Leviticus 19:18). “When an alien lives beside you in your land, do not mistreat him. The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born!”

(Leviticus 19:33,34).

Integration, ecumenical movements, support of especially discriminated and disadvantaged groups are keynotes for future. they should be!

The “stranger in media” or “the strangeness - a feigned difficult standard” ... we could really really live together easier and more respectful of each other. let’s honor each other more in future. If there is a will, there is also a way!

ag-IBIG Fund continues to strengthen its presence in the NCR with the recent inauguration of its SM Aura Branch in Taguig City.

Pag-IBIG President and Chief Executive Officer, Atty. Darlene Marie B. Berberabe, and Shopping Center Management Corporation President, Anna Maria S. Garcia, led the inaugural ceremony of the new branch located at the 7th floor of SM Aura Tower Building, 26th Street corner McKinley Parkway, Bonifacio Global City. The 410.45 square meter office with initial eight employees is headed

by Mervin M. Pereda.

It caters to more than 2,400 employers and 243,183 members of the said city.

“With the everincreasing number of Pag-IBIG members, our Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Vice President Jejomar C. Binay, directed us to prioritize members’ convenience when transacting at our branches. We have redesigned the look of our offices as

one of our ways of professionalizing Pag-IBIG. This way, we make our valued clients feel important when dealing with us. We thank SM Supermalls for this chance to execute our new look to further serve our members efficiently,” Atty.

Member-borrowers can also update their HL or short-term loan amortization payments. She is one of the brightest and sought after designers of the upper echelon of the society today.

Her designs exude sophistication and beauty which is beyond the capacity of human describing.

Born in Cagayan de Oro City and a pure Cagayanon by birth to parents Guilly Parrel and Hugen Sia-Parrel. In 1992 she graduated International Studies at Xavier UniversityAteneo de Cagayan. In 1992 to 1994 she finished Fashion Design and Dressmaking at Madonna School of Fashion and Design and won the best cocktail award using Mindanaoan fabric worn by well- known model-actress Tweetie de Leon.

In 1994-1997 she became an in-house designer of one of the best fashion designer in Cagayan de Oro City and in 1997 she established Mimi ParrelPimentel B outique and Dresshoppe at Limketkai Drive, Cagayan de Oro City.

In 1999 she transferred to a bigger shop at the G/F of Maternity Hospital Building fronting Gaston Park-San Agustin Cathedral.

ast March 26, 2015 was the grand opening of the prestigious Art Exhibit of Metrobank Foundation at the Atrium of SM City, Cagayan de Oro City.

The Art Exhibit showcased the winning artworks of selected former winners of Metrobank Art & Design Excellence (MADE) National Competition in painting, sculpture, architecture and interior design.

Now on its 3rd Year, ‘ART MADE PUBLIC’ is the first public art initiative by Metrobank Foundation in partnership with SM Supermalls throughout the country. Since 2013, ART MADE PUBLIC has engaged various groups from the academe, cultural community, and commercial sites like SM Supermalls to help the foundation accomplish the greater goal or promoting Philippine Art and Art Education among the general public.

Program Officer of Metrobank Foundation told Cagayan Times that as a development organization, Metrobank Foundation, through the Metrobank Art & Design Excellence (MADE) believes that it is also their responsibility to promote culture and art as a vital means for holistic national development. They want the public – especially the youth – to know more about Philippine art and to instill in them a genuine appreciation for it.

She further said that 2015 ART MADE Public carries the theme: “EMPOWERING DREAMS FOR AN INSPIRED NATION”, which symbolizes the foundation’s commitment to realize the winners’ dreams that will inspire more people to dream for the nation. The public will now have the chance

to take a closer look at images of former winning works of which many of whom started as young artists and have gone on to become some of today’s contemporary masters like Elmer Borlongan, Antonio Leano, Emmanuel Garibay and Alfredo Esquillo, Jr., to name a few.

The exhibit also is an opportunity to discover a new breed of artists and designers the country can be proud of. It is hoped that by providing venues such as exhibitions, the public will be empowered to pursue creativity for nation-building as well as to encourage others to do the same. art/PAGE 2

he Association of Misamis Oriental Technical Vocational Education a n d Tr a i n i n g , I n c . , (AMORT VETI) in cooperation with the Te c h n i c a l E du c at i on Skills and Development Au t h o r i t y ( T E S DA ) P rov i n c i a l O f f i c e o f Misamis Oriental held a 2-day School Fair last March 12-13, 2015 at the Provincial Capitol Grounds with the theme “Developing the Youth Through TVET.” The S cho ol Fair was formally opened by a Ribbon Cutting with the presence of the Regional Director of TESDA X, Engr. Edgar A. Sales, Mr. Boboy Sabal, representing the Honorable Governor Bambi Emano, AMORT VETI President, Mrs. Nieves B. Camacho and Jerome V. Manriquez, representing the Provincial Director o f T E S DA- M i s a m i s Oriental. The activity was then covered by ABSCBN, Cagayan de Oro City.

The School Fair was participated in by twenty one (21) Technical Vocational Institutions of Cagayan de Oro City and Misamis Oriental which was considered the biggest gathering since AMORTVETI started the School Fair last year 2014.

The activity was aimed to provide a venue for greater understanding of TVET and its contributions

to the economy by showcasing the skills a n d t a l e nt s t h r o u g h demonstration, and to reach out to its intended beneficiaries such as out of school youths, college undergraduates, college graduates, career shifters, skilled and unskilled workers.

T h e 2 - d ay S c h o o l Fair was formally closed through meaningful ceremony led by the ever active and innovative TESDA Provincial Director Leo V. Velez.

ver five thousand (5,000) devotees, pilgrims, foreign, domestic and local tourists from all over the country and in Mindanao witnessed The Hinuklog 2015 last Holy Thursday and Good Friday (April 2-3, 2015)- at the Municipality of Medina, Misamis Oriental. Now on its 5th year, Hinuklog 2015 is an Annual Lenten Traditional Street Play depicting the Passion, Trial, Crucifixion and Death of Our Savior Lord Jesus Christ. The town plaza, the streets were transformed into a real Roman Empire Mania where two hundred (200) casts and crew of local parishioners and Medinanhons clad in Roman costumes performed the Passion Scenes into a Real Life Story of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Devotees and tourists were in real meditation as they witnessed the trial of Jesus, Caiphas accusing Jesus, Pilate investigating Jesus, King Herod mocked Jesus, the freeing of Barabas and Christ to be crucified, the washing of the hands of Pontius Pilate, the Scourging at

the Pillar, carrying of the Cross of Jesus, Simon of Cyrene helping Jesus carry his Cross, scene: Judas commits suicide, Christ Fell three (3) times, the Cry of the Women of Jerusalem, Veronica wipes the face of Jesus, the Seven Last Words and the Death of Jesus on the Cross.

This year, added scene was the Triumphant Entry of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem-Palm Sunday which was shown on Holy Thursday – April 2, 2015- along with the Last Supper Scene, the Denial of Peter, the Betrayal of Judas. All these scenes turned the devotees and the tourists into deep meditation and made their Holy Week a Blessed One.

In an interview, the Honorable Mayor Ken Nino T. Uyguangco told Cagayan Times that Hinuklog 2015 will set a trend for the Tourism Industry in the Municipality of Medina as it will bring foreign, domestic and local tourists to the town and help boost its economic growth. Investors will pour their investments and help develop the

economic growth of the locality.

He further added that the Lenten Festival next year will start during Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday. AVANTE MEDINA! He says.

The writer in his interviews of the devotees found out that devotees were coming from Albay, Bohol, Ozamis City, Kidapawan City, Cagayan de Oro City, Bohol, a foreigner from Belgium married to a Filipina, Butuan, Surigao, Cotabato, General Santos City, Manila, Bukidnon and other parts of the country came to the HINUKLOG 2015 and made a difference in their Lenten Meditation.

Sr. 2010-2013, through the initiative of former Mayor Pacifico “Jojo”Pupos, Jr. in his younger days was able to witness the Passion Street Play, made a decision to strengthen and expand the community theater responsible for the historic street plays.
