ROUND 160 new licensed real estate brokers and real estate appraisers took their oath last Sunday at N Hotel.

The new passers were all graduates of Red October Educational and Training Center.

They included three topnotchers for the real estate appraisal exam – No. 2 topnotcher Jeno Un and No. 9 topnotchers Edwin delos Santos and Dynnith Suaberon.

Red October Educational and Training Center prides itself as being consistently the number one review center in Mindanao for both real estate broker and real estate appraisal licensure exams.

The daughter of a Kagay-anon living with her husband and family in Melbourne, Australia has won praise for her playing of the Great Highland Bagpipe.

In a recent competition held by the Victorian Pipers Association in Melbourne, Clair AlabaWheatley, 13, ranked second in the Novice Piobaireachd category for her rendition of ‘Glengarry’s Lament.’

Piobaireachd, Pibroch, or Ceòl Mòr is an art music genre associated primarily with the Scottish Highlands that is characterized by extended compositions with a melodic theme and elaborate formal variations.

Strictly meaning ‘piping’ in Scottish Gaelic, piobaireachd has for some four centuries been the music of the Great Highland bagpipe.

The Great Highland bagpipe (Scottish Gaelic: a’ phìob mhòr) is a type of bagpipe native to Scotland. It has achieved widespread recognition through its usage in the British military and civilian pipe bands throughout the world, but is is also used for a solo virtuosic style called piobaireachd, or simply pibroch.

The Great Highland bagpipe is classified as a woodwind instrument, like the bassoon, oboe, and clarinet. Although it is further classified as a double-reed instrument, the reeds are all closed inside the wooden ‘stocks’, instead of being played directly by mouth as most other woodwinds are. The Great Highland bagpipe actually has four reeds: the chanter reed (double), two tenor drone reeds (single), and one bass drone reed (single).A modern set has a bag, a

chanter, a blowpipe, two tenor drones, and one bass drone.

ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) Day marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War and is a national holiday.

“Peddy, Vicenta and I were glued to the television looking for a glimpse of the girls!

Vicenta (the youngest daughter) is also learning the pipes and is making good progress,” Simon recalls with pride.

The Victoria Pipers Association Inc. (VPA) Assessment criteria for competing pipers in 2016 listed what adjudicators were listening for when a solo piper competes in VPA competitions.

In the Novice category, the piper should 1) Show ability to play grace notes and movements clearly; 2) Play with a steady tempo, show a basic understanding of musical expression; 3) Blow bagpipes steady; and be 4) Smartly dressed and presented.

The VPA is an independent, nonprofit organization that is a central point for administrating solo piping events in Victoria.

One competition, during the ‘season’ is the VPA Victorian Solo Piping Championships. At these championships, prizes and titles are distributed in addition to regular aggregate points (including bronze, silver and gold medals for piobaireachd).

At the conclusion of the competition season the aggregate winner of each grade will be recognized as ‘Piper of the Year’. bagpipe/PAGE 7

Critics hits Robredo on alleged prohibited campaign funds April 30 - May 6, 2016

CRITICS of 3rd District Camarines Sur Representative and Liberal Party Vice Presidential candidate Leni Robredo have scored against the former over allegations that the Robredo candidacy is well-funded and with smoothly running propaganda machine.

They also alleged that her promotions and advertising placements on TV and radio have been estimated to be several hundred million pesos, along with her well-placed expensive

tarpaulins, posters and stickers.

In an interview with DZMM, Robredo said that campaign contributions are coming from “friends and relatives,” who are the contributors in the May 9, 2016 elections, and will have to be reported later with the Commission on Election (Comelec), as provided by law.

But, critics alleged that in the 2013 elections, when Robredo ran as representative for the 3rd District of Camarines Sur, and was allegedly

charged for committing election offenses, involving prohibited campaign contributions from foreign sources, E.O. Case No. 13179, which was filed on May 23, 2013, for violation of Section 96 of the Omnibus Election Code; and untruthful reporting of campaign contributions, E.O. Case No. 13-293, which was filed on September 22, 2013, for violation of Section 98 of the Omnibus Election Code.

The pieces of evidence against Leni Robredo

were obtained from Leni Robredo’s own website http://lenirobredo.ph which upon verification unwittingly listed five categories of prohibited contributions from foreign sources, namely: Natural-born Americans citizens; Filipino who became naturalized American citizens and remain as foreign nationals; Filipinos who became naturalized American citizens, but opted to elect to be dual citizens and, therefore, remain both an American citizen and a Filipino

citizen. Hence, they are still foreign nationals; Foreign entities; and, donors from anonymous sources.

The specific names of those belonging to any of the foregoing donors have been presented at the Comelec by Complainants in their Verified Complaints, Position Papers and supporting Exhibits.

The other documentary evidence against Robredo are provided in Robredo’s own Statement of Contributions as submitted to the

Comelec which allegedly deliberately omitted prohibited contributions delivered to her by a certain Loida Lewis, who executed an affidavit that she turned over to Robredo her personal contributions and other contributions from the United States.

Herbalife’s Nutrition At Work Survey Reveals Majority of Philippines’ Workforce Lead Largely Sedentary Lifestyles, Putting them at Risk of Obesity Fifth Herbalife Asia-Pacific Wellness Tour seeks to address health issues associated with sedentary lifestyles, and deepen practical understanding on the benefits of a healthy, active life Herbalife, a global nutrition company, has released the findings of the new Nutrition At Work Survey, which revealed that the majority of Philippines’ workforce leads largely sedentary lifestyles, putting them at risk of obesity. The Survey1, which was designed to understand the lifestyle habits and attitudes of Asia Pacific’s modern workforce, was conducted in March with 5,500 full-time workers in 11 Asia-Pacific markets, including 500 workers from the Philippines.

According to the survey findings, almost nine out of 10 (85%) workers in the Philippines spend at least six hours a day sitting at their desk, with 52% of its workforce eating lunch at their work desk two to five times per week. The survey also revealed that majority of Philippines’ workforce (86%) exercise less than three times per week, with five out of 10 getting less than 30 minutes of physical activity a day at their workplace. This suggests a significantly worrying trend locally, on the back of rising obesity rates recorded in recent years.

Nevertheless, the risk of obesity could be averted if workers in the Philippines decide to take control over their own nutritional intake and exercise regimen.

Close to eight out of 10 workers (75%) affirmed

that they strive to live a healthy, active life, however, the majority of them noted that they find it difficult to stay active during workdays.

“With a majority of Philippines’ workforce leading largely sedentary lifestyles, our mission as a global nutrition company is to help people in the Philippines take practical steps towards leading healthy, active lives.

The Break Through?

It’s not the first time, that representatives of most countries have signed a document for a better world climate. Last Friday, the Paris climate deal has been signed in New York. By signing the four-month-old agreement, the nations pledged to join the fight against global warming.

UN chief Ban Kimoon opened the ceremony on Friday, describing the accord as “history in the making” in his address to the UN General Assembly.

Envoys from more than 170 countries signed the climate deal over the course of the day, setting a new record.

“Today you are signing a new covenant with the future,” Ban told the gathering on Friday.

“The era of consumption without consequences is over.”

For Germany, Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks was on hand to sign the commitment, which will then require ratification in parliament. Famous Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio also addressed the

international officials, telling them they were the “last best hope” for saving the planet. “We can congratulate each other today, but it will mean absolutely nothing” if the envoys fail to implement the deal, DiCaprio said. And this also my opinion. And not only mine. Indeed, if the envoys fail to implement the deal, this signing a new covenant with the future will remain as a piece of scratch paper.

Nothing else. Nothing more.

Despite Friday’s signing ceremony, most individual countries are still obliged to ratify the agreement in their own parliaments. Will this happened? And when?

In New York, French President Francois Hollande said he would urge his parliament to ratify the accord “by the summer” of 2016.

Hollande also called on the EU to “lead by example” and complete the procedure before the year is up. “There is no turning back now,” he said in a brief address to the assembly. Of course not Monsieur Presidente.

The agreement is set to come into force after 55 countries representing at least 55 percent of global polluters formally join it. International leaders have set 2020 as the target date, but many climate experts believe it could happen much sooner. In my opinion: it should happened sooner! On Friday, Beijing’s representatives announced China would ratify the deal by September. The US also intends to finalize the procedure during this presidential election year.

They seem not yet to be in a hurry ... !

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff (how long?) also spoke before the assembly in New York, pledging that her country would restore and reforest 12 million hectares (30 million acres) of forests and 15 million hectares of degraded pastures, but offering no timetable.

Indeed, the country is in a “grave, serious moment.

Currently, average temperatures are almost 1 degree Celsius higher than before the industrial revolution. Countries are obliged to report on their progress and update their targets every five years. However, there is no penalty if the states miss their emission goals. A nation can also withdraw from the treaty, but not during the first three years after the deal goes into effect. After deciding to pull out, the national government would need to wait for a one-year notice period.

Current combined capacity of the two international container ports is approximately 7000 containers/trucks per day. Elimination of container trucks from the streets of Manila will create a significant savings in the cost of the gridlock and time savings for daily commuters.

The shipping takes time and costs us a lot. So, I decided to talk to Seda Centrio hotel manager, Mr. Noel Barrameda, and explained to him the details that would be good as well for their Corporate Social Responsibility. I’m just very lucky that he’s a very nice person. I am so grateful and happy that he said yes. They will deliver their soaps every end of the month to the barangay. It’s only 10 minutes away from the hotel.

Last April 27, 2016 (Wednesday) we had our turnover ceremony.

Then last minute, I also decided to bring some new slippers for the 80 happy kids of Barangay 17. To those of you who know me well, I love wearing slippers or flip-flops. That’s why I love giving new slippers because I know how it feels having new slippers to walk with. I also love seeing kids happy and excited.
