tos Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Cagayan de Oro will be holding a block screening for Guardians of the Galaxy on April 25, 2017 at 9PM, Centrio Cinema a day ahead of the regular schedule.

“It’s a fund raising event for competing Kagay-anon athletes in the upcoming Dumau Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Competition in Cebu this coming June,” said Candice Saligumba, Operations Associate Manager-Cinema Operatgions, Centrio Cinemas.

“The purpose of the event is to raise funds for a couple of things: One is to subsidize the expenses of our students who have potential to succeed in international competition but have little to no budget. It has been a practice nga kami mag amot-amot but we decided to have a fund raising event instead,” said Paul Clarence “Popo” Juarez, head instructor.

“Second, we’ll have to buy gear and equipment for our scholars. They are chosen students that we want t take under our wing to impart skills and values to that would help them in the future.”

Approximately 5,000 small and big bikes enthusiasts from all over the Philippines as well as from Malaysia and Indonesia are expected to cruise the streets of Koronadal City to take part in this year’s holding of the 23rd Annual COnvention of the National Federation of Motorcycle Clubs of the Philippines (NFMCP) this coming April 22 to 30, 2017 where Koronadal plays host.

To intensify the call for advocacy for riding safety, the City Government of Koronadal has prepared a week-long celebration dubbed as “Koronadal Motorcycle Festival” running from the 22nd to the 30th of April 2017 at the Rizal Park, City of Koronadal.

The 9-day grand motorcycle extravaganza is jampacked with worthwhile activities such as conferences, symposia on road courtesies and traffic regulations, skills trainings and other capacity building seminar-workshops for thousands of local motorists (motorcycle, tricycle & habal-

habal drivers, etc.) from Koronadal and the whole of SOCCSKSARGEN Region.

Add to this is the planned official attempt on April 29, 2017 to break the Guinness World Records for the Largest Parade of Motorcycle, the Most Motorcycle Horns Sounded Simultaneously and Most Engines Started Simultaneously.

Currently, India holds the record for the Largest Parade of Motorcycles with 1,700 participants while Yamaha Philippines holds the records for The Most Engines

He may be someone from a foreign country, who speaks another language and whose skin is of another color. He may be a migrant, a restless hiker or the expatriate in our neighbourhood.

The foreigner beside you and me can become a provocation or a challenge.

Strangeness can become exoticism. Maybe, that’s why my family and I decided to move to the Philippines. On the other hand - going abroad can open other and even better horizons. We must not feel as “a stranger in paradise”. By the way, I never did since touring around the globe many times.

Yes guys, during the first two years of my expat’s life in the Philippines, the round trip ticket was Klaus Doring always in my mind, because no one among us can escape his native roots.

But, I am really a lucky guy. I experienced an amazing tolerance in the Philippines. A real practicing tolerance.

Already, during my first business meetings, I met supportive, forbearing and broad minded people. A wonderful mix of different cultures without giving up the own identity... .

Every new challenge in a strange country means a change. Changes in life are necessary and important. Let’s alter or make a difference; let’s put one thing for another; let’s shift; let’s quit one state for another; let’s take fresh clothing. Let’s burn the “lock fat” away. Constructing Dreams into Reality

Meet Remie Patalita Jr., a persistent young individual from Barangay Bukangliwayway, Kibawe, Bukidnon who recently earned a promotion as

a Line Quality Control at the Hanjin Heavy Industries (HHI) and Construction Co. Ltd. Philippines in Subic Zambales.

Mr. Patalita was one of the 30 beneficiaries who completed Plumbing NC II, a technical course supported by the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP). For 20 days, the program beneficiaries went through vigorous and hands on training on plumbing to prepare them for possible employment.

Motivated by his dreams to develop education and support his family (a mother who is under medication

and a younger brother in school), Mr. Patalita, worked his way to succeed.

Months after he completed the technical course, he submitted himself to a free Pipe Fitting NC II offered by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). He then worked as a trainee at the Cagayan de Oro City Water District Office for a month, to gain experience.

Given his credentials, he then received an opportunity to work as Pipe Fitter at one of the largest construction

industries in the Philippines. This is an employment opportunity, which DSWD worked out and supported through SLP’s Pre-employment Assistance Fund (PEAF) amounting to Php 3,500.00, to complete his documentary requirements to take the job.

Since his employment, he was able to send about 50,000.00 to his family.

“The success of our program beneficiaries is our success as well”, says Gretchen Jimenez, the Project Development Officer for SLP, assigned in this municipality.

The SLP is a multistakeholder program of the department that aims to improve the standard of living of poor households by facilitating opportunities for development and management of resources viable for microenterprises, community empowerment through skills training and employment facilitation.

The provision of Technical/Vocational Skills Training and PreEmployment Assistant Funds form part of the modalities of SLP to improve the employable skills of beneficiaries.

NGCP upgrades outdated facilities inherited from TransCo S

ince it took over the operations and maintenance of the country’s power transmission network in 2009, NGCP has introduced major physical and technological upgrades to aging stateowned lines and facilities.

NGCP’s National Control Center, the heart of its nationwide transmission operations, received a much needed physical upgrade in 2012, from old CRT monitors and unreliable monitoring systems to the introduction of the Open3000 system. The application allows the synchronized operation of the three main grids (Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao) from only one platform, allowing efficient overall monitoring and quick response in case of system faults and grid disturbances.

The system forms the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), a collection of computers, equipment, and application

software integrated into a system to acquire realtime data on power system parameters and to provide monitoring and control facilities for remote devices such as breakers.

The Luzon Grid, accounting for more than 70% of the country’s total power demand, likewise earned a reinforced Backup Luzon Regional Control Center which duplicates the function of the National Control Center and its operations in times of emergency.

Back-up Control Centers are also in place for the Visayas and Mindanao grids, ready to operate should the existing regional control centers be unable to carry its function. At the district level, upgraded District Command Centers manage and administer power transmission services at a provincial level.

THE annual BPI Lifestyle Madness was at its Cagayan de Oro leg last April 20 and 21 at Centrio, now in its four years.

But here’s the catch – this is the very first BPI Lifestyle Madness edition that was organized locally with all participants local.

Its popularity rose because of its success in the Unlimited Fighting Championships (UFC), showing its effectiveness against other martial art forms,” Juarez said.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu promotes the concept that a smaller person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger and heavier opponent by using proper technique, leverage, and most notably by taking the fight to the ground (Wikipedia).

Juarez has been training for nine years and has affiliated with Atos Philippine for five years as an accredited recognized instructor.

Metro Manila and we have produced champions in local and international tournaments. Atos is an international Jiu-Jitsu team consistently ranked among the best Jiu-Jitsu schools in the world,” Juarez said.
