Ang Pasyon ni Hesukristo

“Taong aking nilikha, gumising! Ikaw ay tinubos upang palayain.

Tignan mo kung gaano kamahal ang pagtubos ko sa iyo.” Ang Pasyon

ni Hesukristo (APNH), written by Linda O. Manalo, PhD, is a heartfelt narration of Jesus Christ’s Paschal Mystery. It retells the

story of His passion, death, and resurrection as written in the scriptures. In line with the Season of Lent, The Xavier Stage (TXS), directed by Bart Savior, presented APNH last April 11 to 13 at the XU Little Theater.

Despite the fact this has been the fourth year TXS has mounted this play as their Lenten production, it still remains their most poignant reflection of the authentic truth. To this day, Ang Pasyon ni Hesukristo has always been recognized as the company’s most essential production, as it retells the story of the unimaginable spans and horrid struggles the Son of God willingly endured out of the depth of His love for mankind.

What sets APNH apart from all the rest is that many, if not all of its audiences, already know how this narrative unfolds. The series of events that progress along the way have already been generally accepted by many, especially in Catholic

countries like the Philippines. In addition, it is an ensemble most grounded on reality for it is not based on fantasy or imagination but on the epic, actual, self-giving love of God. This is an expression of factual events that happened to real people many centuries past, unlike most productions which are crafted out of a sole playwright’s artistry. However these do not make APNH any less of a quality play. If anything, these accentuate its timeless message, explaining why numerous people still choose to watch it.

Hearing this story in masses and reading it from the Bible are very different experiences from seeing it portrayed before your very eyes.

By turning this heartwrenching narrative into a stage play, theatre has then become a mean of putting life into an already soulful scripture.

It is through this process that artistic images are used to form the magnanimity of God’s

very image. It is directed towards moving faithfuls into feeling holistic, communal love in their hearts; what better way to hammer humanity through the arts than by showing the passion of

the person who restored and saved it altogether.

Team Suzuki Pilipinas Takes Home another Top Podium Win in SAC (Suzuki Asian Challenge) Round 2 T eam Suzuki Pilipinas had it again at the 2017 Suzuki Asian Challenge (SAC) Round 2 after taking home another top podium win at Chang International Circuit.

After getting a back to back win during the Round 1 in Malaysia, the team was on it once more by giving the country its 3rd top finish. April King Mascardo took home the top spot just a few weeks after his powerful performance at the previous round which landed him in pole position and a 1 st place finish at Race 1. Cebu’s pride Mario Borbon Jr.

on the hand dominated the Race 1 of Round 1.

Starting on 5th grid, April strategically managed to stay at the right position over the other riders on the first laps then focused on following the leader of the race. When he got the perfect timing to lead the pack, he made sure he to secure the lead until the final lap. His exceptional performance outstood the other riders including the Thai and SAC Class of 2015 2nd placer Patis Chooprathet.

Race 2 was a tight battle for all of the riders especially for Team Suzuki Pilipinas’ Eane Jay Sobretodo and April

Suzuki at the Auto Shanghai 2017 Suzuki Motor Corporation has unveiled the Ultra Compact SUV Ignis and the C-segment crossover SX4 S-CROSS at the 17th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition in Shanghai.

The Ignis will be produced at Suzuki’s Sagara Plant in Japan, and distributed through the Chinese subsidiary Suzuki Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. The SX4 S-CROSS

with renewed front face will be produced and distributed by the Chinese joint venture Chongqing Changan Suzuki Automobile Co., Ltd. These two models are planned to be launched in 2017.

The Suzuki booth is exhibiting eight automobile models, three motorcycle models, and one outboard motor model to appeal the Suzuki brand.

Sobretodo unfortunately crashed while leading the 4th lap after an accidental hit by another rider causing him to not finish the race. During the last lap at the final

corner of the race, one rider fell affecting the six riders on his trail including Borbon, Jr. and Mascardo.

Even after the series of crashes, Mascardo finished 5th and Borbon made it at 12th place.

After the Round 2, Team Suzuki Pilipinas managed to retain their good standing. Mascardo remains at the top spot, Borbon Jr. at 7th with 42 points with Sobretodo at 11th place. Despite the series of crashes, nothing

serious happened to team and they are more than determined to face the next round of the challenge which will happen at Suzuka International Circuit in Japan on June 2 to 4, 2017.

Some people have money to burn! Every time, I observe them, I feel that their money is going down their drain. Yes, “money talks”. The more money you have, the more you might become avaricious. Every time, we have to dig deeper into our pockets, we might longing to be like those people, who don’t see the difference between a 500 or 1,000 bill.

I am really not rich! I also wouldn’t hesitate to say, that I would like to be so! Being rich means having wealth! Wealth is abundance, opulence and affluence. Affluences becomes quickly influence. Dyed-in-the-wool millionaires or even multi-millionaires over lose their view of reality many times. They can’t even see the horizon, which could be the demarcation of their real estate. They even don’t recognize the wonderful flowers growing and blooming in their gardens.

Money calms down! Sure. No doubts at all!

We all need an income to survive for our daily needs - and, maybe, a little bit more. Many of us struggle through life and work like slaves for a pitiful daily minimum wage. If you’re rich, you might be on the top. But believe me, once you are on top, you will have some unwelcome, mostly acceptable companions such as loneliness, so-called friends (!), parasites and free-loaders.

These companions will let you scream in pain, because you will start missing things, you have expected from them: real friendship, love, care, comprehension, understanding, sympathy, appreciation... .Remember such things? Miss such things?

Yes, money can give you a wonderful sleep, and you might stay in one of the most

luxurious beds - but H ave M y Say being awake, while your poorest neighbor sleeps better and more peaceful on the floor. There are many sayings about money.

I like this one: Money can buy books but not brains. You might Klaus Doring study a lot and get a lot of experiences; it’s just a pity, if you don’t use them at the right time for the right people in your surroundings.

Money can buy food but no appetite. Who reaps the benefits of it? A full to overflowing store room will never be satisfying, if sour free-loaders join your table and push away your real friends.

Our last earthly dress has no more pockets.

The remembrance on how we acted and lived together with our fellow creatures will remain forever. With money, we might be able to let the devil dance. But, money alone doesn’t make us happy. Money kills more people and friendships than a cudgel.

The more money, the more problems.

The more money, the more we have to pay and the higher our bills become... .

FOR the first time in its seven-year history, producers of the famed Hinuklog 2017 in Medina, Misamis Oriental included one pivotal scene – the resurrection of Jesus.

It was St. Isidore Parish Church assistant priest Richard Deloso who pressed the veteran producers led by director Allan Barcelona to include the Resurrection scene, saying that without that key event, the death of Jesus would mean nothing at all to the devotees who flock to

the scene and to the rest of the Catholics elsewhere.

Indeed, the introduction of the Resurrection scene Saturday night during actual the actual Easter eve vigil caused the Hinuklog crowd to swell from 4,000 last year to 5,516. That is according to actual registrants on site, said Medina mayoral aide Edan Mark Vosotros.

Hinuklog is unique in that it is a joint governmentChurch production.

Despite the different styles of the mayors since 2011, Hinuklog

has remained a crowd drawer in Medina and is a vital part of its tourism industry which is the recognized one town one product (OTOP) entry before the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

This time, Mayor Donato Chan has thrown in his full

support to the Hinuklog Council together with all the employees of the municipal government. In fact, Chan himself ordered the bussing in of residents from the town’s 19 barangays who were all eager to witness the religiouscum-tourism activity.

1. Can you give a background about yourself? Like what course/university are you studying?

I am a junior taking up computer science at Xavier University.

2. Aside from a graphics enthusiast, what made you love filmmaking? Have you been making short indies since high school?

I have only started making indie films since 2013 when one of my friend encouraged me to do a film for our project. From that day on, I have realized my heart for storytelling.

I have always been a movie- goer since high school and have been criticizing films as well since then.

3. Tell us what plots you are interested on.

Based on my films, I am very interested in making family dramas since me myself have been through a lot of family issues. I have been using my own experience in supporting the plot of my films.

4. Can you enumerate to us what awards you have received?

I have won Audience Choice Award on the 2nd Puerto Layag Film Festival, and finally won third place and Best Director on the same film fest in its succeeding year.

5. Lately, you are passionate about still photography.

How challenging is it compared to motion picture?

It is challenging since I am very new to this though my knowledge in cinematography has helped me a lot in putting a story into the pictures I take.

6. What made you interested to pursue still photography as well?

Photography for me is a new home. But along with it, I still plan to pursue film making.

Filmmaking is where my heart truly belongs since I really like movies. Photography is somewhat a hobby and a support system in producing my films in the future.

7. What genres do you intend to capture or excel?

Almost 70 percent of my films are mystery films. So I think mystery is where my heart is most interested in. Making a simple government-related issue or drugs into a twister-mystery-ish plot.

8. Can you envision yourself winning a prestigious photography award two years from now?

Since I am a positivethinker. Yes. I can envision myself, and with the enthusiasm I currently have with photography, it is possible.

9. Who is your inspiration in pursuing photography?

My family. Our family have been through a lot of struggle lately, since 2013 -- the time when my father suffered from stroke

and my mother suffered from an eye disease.

Since then, we have been selling all our properties, from our trucks, to business, and even one of our house has been sold to support my father from the ICU (who has been in a coma for three months).

Thank God the doctors have took care of him well that he was able to recover all parts of his body, though he is still slow in moving

them. Earlier last year, my dad suffered again from kidney failure, which is one of the reason why I am giving photography more time than film. The money I have been earning in photography will be my support for my dad's dialysis sessions, twice a week. Since my mom is old and I am the eldest, I believe I am the one who should be most responsible in the expenses at home.

IGACOS: In an island of faith healers

Last midnight of the Good Friday, folksy faith healers the locals called as manambalay residing in Samal Island “renewed” their healing powers at the old Babak cemetery.

“Without agreement, we will meet midnight of Good Friday at the old cemetery in Babak and we just didn’t mind each other while we never know each other, and we silently recited our respective oracions,” said 60-year-old Datu Tambalan (Doreto P. Palasan in real name), a known faith healer residing in Purok 5, Sitio Balite at Barangay Tambo in Babak district.

“For me, I and others whom I don’t know knelled to pray in front of the big cross in the cemetery, others prayed in front or atop niches.

It took me one hour to do the oracion, me alone and then I went home at 1 a.m.,” he said in an interview.

He said that each time he does the oracion handed down to him by

his maternal grandfather every Good Friday midnight, he is restrengthened once again for another year of faith healing.

Datu Tambalan is known to have extraordinary powers that he uses to heal and help people. He healed the dying, people who have given up the cure of the hospitals and doctors, women with breast cancer on terminal stage, those sick of other types of cancer, cast out bad spirits from possessed persons, inflicted thieves to admit their household crimes, reunited separated spouses, let foreigners come to the island to marry their chatmates in the internet by his oracion, lana (oil) and “healing works”.

He would also preempt manghiloay (poisoners) and mapikpikay (so-called witches and givers of curses, sudden illness, black magic, bad luck spells), protect folks from various sickness, and even secure soldiers from

being hit during ambush with his “habak” (amulet) sealed in a twisted bullet shell and many more wonders.

Island of Faith Healers “Dire sa Samal perteng daghana ang manambalay, di malupigan sa kadaghan (Here in Samal there is abundance of faith healers, the island can’t he beaten for having many healers),”Datu Tambalan said.

True enough, there was that healer named Kapitan Bali (means broken or fracture) in nearby San Isidro who was famous of healing and reconnecting bone fractures. He already died due to stroke sometime four years ago.

But his brother has reportedly assumed Kapitan Bali’s folk healing at the PAL crash site in upper San Isidro.

There was late healer Auring and her burgeoned followers, and a Paraiso place populated by white-wearing flocks, all in Penaplata.

Nearby, there is one healer specializing to cure to persons bitten

by any snake specie, one Danny Cobra. This reporter approached him but he refused to be interviewed, saying he was already interviewed

by ABS-CBN some time ago.

Back to Datu Tambalan: He said that he had already cast out evils from possessed (gisaniban) persons like a teacher in nearby barrio and several possessed children, and cured many cancer stricken including three Japanese. Some of his patients stayed in his house for days until they were dispatched after getting well.

Bebeth Labis, resident of Barobo, Surigao, reached Matambalan’s house Tuesday last week to renew during the Holy Week the treatment of his son who accordingly is under “laygay” of bad spirit. “Laygay” means slow death.

Labis vouched for Datu Tambalan’s extraordinary powers that helped her son “nga gibinuangan” (fooled by bad spirit).

Another client of that day was a businesswoman who sought for

Tambalan’s help to know who got the P30,000 money from her bag from among his household or neighborhood.

“I healed not less than 5,000 persons already,” he answered when asked of the number of persons he helped since he arrived in Samal Island in 2010.

Many among those whom he healed are coming back or have persons referred by them to seek his help.

Asked on how much he asked from them, he answered: “Way presyo dire, depende nila (I have no price tag, it depends to them”. There is voluntary giving of money or donation to the altar after the healing session. He recalled that the poor relatives of one whom he helped “nga nagtinga na” (really dying) gave P20 and it is just OK to him.

Tambalan’s First Healing & Powers It is in the island that he makes continuous healing unlike the onand-off healing activities he made in Cagayan de Oro. He came for treasure hunting seven

years ago but it was a failure and sooner he met his second love and got stranded in the island.

He was 10 years old after being given powers by his lolo when he was watching a basketball game, and then suddenly a player fell down so badly on the court after a wrestle over the ball.

The player writhed in pain, trembling. Out of concern, he went to his rescue and massaged him.

The player got completely well, without feeling any pain in days thereafter.

But the boy Tambalan took it as natural, never knowing that it was out of the powers in him.

The greatest surprise was that Datu Tambalan is a licensed architect.

He said he had gainful employment at the last as architect of the known Zubiris of Bukidnon, of Senator Migs Zubiri. “But I chose to help, to heal people,” he said.

Asked pointblank where his power came from or whether it came from the black, bad spirits, Datu Tambalan answered: “Ang gituga healers/PAGE 11

National Finalists of the 16th Metrobank Math Challenge named

N

ow on its 16th year, the MetrobankMTAP-DepEd Math Challenge (MMC) will culminate with its national finals on April 21-22, 2017. A total of 44 students from 28 public and private schools all over the country successfully advance to the competition’s final phase. The MMC is the most widely participated math competition in the country among elementary and high school students.

The Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI), together with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines (MTAP), announces the schools which made it to the National Finals of the 2017 Metrobank-MTAPDepEd Math Challenge (MMC).

Out of the 572,916 students who competed in the nationwide

elimination rounds, a total of 44 students representing 28 public and private schools have successfully advanced to the final leg of the competition which is the National Finals to be held on April 22, 2017 at the Metrobank Plaza Auditorium in Makati City.

“We want to congratulate our finalists as early as now for making it this far in the competition. With hard work and determination, you have surpassed expectations, bringing pride and honor to your respective schools,” said MBFI president Aniceto Sobrepeña.

“Sixteen years after we started, Metrobank and Metrobank Foundation remain committed to providing a venue for the Filipino youth to hone their mathematical skills in an atmosphere of friendly competition,” he added.

MMC is the most widely participated math competition in the country among elementary and high school students. It is being organized by the MBFI, MTAP, and DepEd. The annual Math Challenge produces national winners who get to compete and eventually win in international competitions. Among them are Farrell Eldrian S. Wu and Kyle Patrick F. Dulay who reaped the first gold medals of the Philippines at the recent 57th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held in Hong Kong.
