h Fong Asian Cuisine has moved and opened to its new location at SM City Cagayan de Oro!
Last Friday, April 15 we were invited by owner and current COHARA President Nelia Lee to its blessing and soft opening at its new site located just a door away from the SM City CDO Rotunda. Great new location if you ask me, and immediately the increased customer traffic and SM’s vast parking spaces redounds to the benefit of both the resto and its faithful clientele. Originally situated at one of the new lifestyle districts downtown, Ms. Lee chose to move it Uptown to SM mainly because the she wasn’t getting enough of the clientele she knows would appreciate its Asian Fusion menu best.
Nelia knows her culinary chops, being the former manager of Dynasty Hotel and Restaurant, which had the distinction of being one of only four Cagayan de Oro restaurants selected among the ten best in the Philippines for pancit canton in Unilever’s “Sooo Pinoy National Search for the Ultimate Pinoy Dish” some four years ago. She’s also one of the founders of COHARA, the Cagayan de Oro Hotels and Restaurant Association, and its landmark Kumbira, the largest culinary event outside Metro Manila which will be having its 20th edition during Cagayan de Oro’s fiesta
month this August. In response to her invitation, the core group of her fellow members in the Cagayan de Oro City Tourism Council led by no less than former DOT-X Director and now CTC Chair Dottie Pabayo came in force, as did her loyal colleagues from COHARA. Also spotted in the crown of VIPs were DOT-X Reg. Dir. Butch Chan and his office mates, as well as Nelia’s relatives and friends from the local FilipinoChinese community. Canon Imaging Academy: A seminar-workshop for basic photography

rom beginners to experts of different photography enthusiasts, together, they were able to learn and understand the basics in taking photographs even in the simplest way yet with great results. With the expertise of the famous Wedding Portrait and Advertising Photographer Mr Kenneth Hao from Canon Imaging Academy, the basic photography seminar-workshop was successfully conducted last April 2, 2016 at the Activity Center of Limketkai Level 2,
Cagayan de Oro City. During the seminar-workshop, Mr Kenneth Hao gave inputs about specific topics such as Language of Light. This term was used by photographers, and it talks about how a photographer can manipulate the lightings at any time, for example: If a photographer wants an outdoor setting that looks like the sun shines directly to the subject even if it is already five o’clock in the afternoon, he can use all the resources he have, like speed lights or camera flashes,
reflectors, etc. The seminar was indeed an eye opener, most especially to the beginners in photography
because it gave the basic information that a photographer must know to hone his/her talents in the world of photography.

mobile market,” said VP for Sales and Marketing Jakkrit Suwansilp. “We are launching innovative designs that reflect the preferences of an important segment of our market, the millennials,” he added. MARIWASA was the first to manufacture both wall and floor tiles in a vast range of colors and sizes. “With each MARIWASA tile comes a firm commitment to product excellence that is fully supported by extensive research and development, innovative design and some of the most modern production facilities and processes in the Philippines, all of which are now operating under ISO 9001:2000 and PNS/ISO 13006 quality standards,” said Buranawit. The President also stressed that apart from the company’s goals for its bottom line, Mariwasa is also committed in improving the quality of life of the community through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) project. In partnership with the Department of Education’s Adopt-aSchool Program, the company has undertaken the Mariwasa Public School Toilet Renovation Project which aims to improve sanitation
facilities in public school toilets in far-flung communities across the country. A total of 50 schools spread across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao were chosen as beneficiaries receiving complete toilet products and fixtures including wall and floor ceramic tiles, waterclosets, sanitary wares and tile accessories. Trained Mariwasa skilled personnel were fielded for installation of the products and to work on the required renovations. “Through this CSR project Mariwasa has helped provide students with access to sanitary facilities and an environment that is conducive to learning and proper health,” Buranawit added. According to Buranawit, the market is steadily growing, the horizon is decidedly widening, and opportunities will not be wasted. “We are certainly proud of those fifty years of uncompromising quality, and this we intend to carry on for maybe the next fifty years with our brand of innovation and excellence. JCI Kagayhaan Gold presents the JCI Kagayhaan Gold Fiesta Cup 2016 Dragonboat Competition this August 20 at Cagayan River across the bank from the Liceo de Cagayan University main campus. According to competition chair Owen Jaen, the following are the categories – 200 meters open, 200 meters mixed, 200 meters women, 2000 meters mixed and 2000 meters open. It will be a 500-meter circumferential race circuit and not a straight line. This will be the second time that a dragonboat competition will be held here – the first one was in December 2014. JCI Kagayhaan Gold president Paul Subere said that the dragonboat competition is intended to raise funds for the ongoing
and upcoming projects of JCI Kagayhaan Gold. JCI Kagayhaan Gold is composed of almost 50 members of young dynamic individuals. It was organized way back in 1988. As part of Junior Chamber International, it actively provides development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change. Prior to the event, a river cleanup will be held on August 19 and a tree planting activity on August 21 in coordination with the Safer River Life Saver Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Liceo de Cagayan University. Each participating paddler will have a tree for himself/herself to adopt. After the wholeday event, there will be a rave party at the riverbank, a first in the city.

A mistaken belief accompanies each and every one of us daily. Incorrect decisions and wrong doings are part of our daily life. It is almost a ridiculous fact that man wants to know certain truths about mundane things. But really he seems least interested in even mundane truths as can be read many times in newspapers for example. There seem to be too much rash judgments, and the readers absorb these and make these their own. A fatal attraction! This is sometimes referred to as journalistic mentality wherein accusations are generously made without proof.
Evolution started this trend, when scientists stated for example that man evolved from the apes, without proof. The only proof they had was the missing link, and if I am not mistaken, it’s still a missing proof until now. To look for proofs is a mental activity, which is no longer a common thing nowadays, because it takes really time, effort and is too serious to think about. Yet, in Christian education, thinking right is very important. That’s why Philosophy is important in Christian life. To avoid error in thinking, the rules of right reasoning must be studied and mastered. It is really totally
neglected in today’s modern education? Thinking is actually an enjoyable activity but when one is pressured to get a good job for one’s sustenance, then the other more mundane become attractive. After all, great thinkers many time do not get (good?) jobs... . Spiritual writers like the British Samuel Taylor Coleridge (17721834) noticed that mankind had stopped thinking even two centuries ago. That was during his age. Man probably stopped thinking even earlier. He has ceased many times to search for the truth. It’s easier to listen to gossip and believe in it. What a sign of weak minds!

T was a busy week for the ladies of the all-women JCI Macajalar 24K. With the whole April 10 to 16 designated as JCI Week 2016, the ladies assisted female prisoners in initiating a livelihood program, invited female motivational speakers
to share their ideas, did an outreach with lolos and lolas, launched the Top Ten Most Beautiful Women of Cagayan de Oro search and turned over an artificial reef in Opol, Misamis Oriental – all fulfilling their identity as young active citizens taking action and creating impact in
communities. Last Thursday, the women of JCI Macajalar 24K invited three motivational speakers to share their thoughts to the audience of around 50 who are mostly underprivileged women, filling up a function room at Mallberry Business Suites and Hotel the whole afternoon.
The three were JCI Macajalar 24K past president and CDO Handmade Paper founder Lolita Cabanlet, banana cue vendor Elsa Clemenio and radio personality and Cagayan de Oro Times columnist Sheryl Macale. I was only able to catch up Macale’s talk and indeed she wowed
the crowd well. “A woman should stand on her own feet!” “Each married woman has a responsibility to her husband.” “Love can never be bought.” “Fight for your right as a woman.” “Find a man who loves you more than you love him.” “Know your priorities in your life.” “Be examples to the community around you.” “Take care of your body.
