DAVAO City––The use of mobile phones, laptops and other electronic devices for passengers during flights will be allowed on “conditional basis” in 2014. The Civilian Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the agency regulating commercial operations of airplanes and airports, made this announcement through its memorandum circular 52-13, series of 2013 Tuesday. The new policy will take effect 15 days after publication of the memo in major newspapers. CAGAYAN de Oro City–– Unidentified men bore holes on walls and adjoining buildings from where they stayed during the holiday break and gained entry on a jewelry shop and carted away cash and jewelries valued at P 5 million to P 10 million, the police said on Tuesday. Chief Inspector Lemuel Gonda, head of the police operations in Cagayan de Oro City, said that the robbery was discovered Tuesday morning when the store owner opened the Alson Pawn Shop and Jewelry Shop along J. R. Borja street here. During the initial inves-
tigation, police discovered that the suspects stayed in a nearby Dian Inn along Yacapin Street at Room 123, 125, and 126 under the name of Dennis Faisan. Gonda said that the suspects bore a hole in the wall of the comfort room of Room 125 that made their way to a warehouse of a clothing store. “From the warehouse, the suspects bore another hole on the wall of the jewelry store allowing them to gain entry into the pawnshop,” Gonda added. He said that the suspects then force opened the two vaults of the pawnshop and took all the jewelries, a laptop computer and the P 300,000 cash stored in one of the safes. See store, page 15

BUTUAN City––The Department of Health Regional Office 13 (DOH-13) reported 15 percent increase in the number of firecracker victims in Caraga region during the holidays from December 21, 2013 to January 2, 2014. The DOH-13 said a total of 31 firecracker injuries were reported in the different sentinel hospitals in Caraga Region during the period mentioned. DOH-13 said that this is 15 percent higher compared to the 27 reported during the same period last year. Among the 31 firecracker related injuries, 29 or 94 percent were active, meaning the victims themselves lighted the firecrackers, and two or 6 percent were passive (either See caraga, page 15
