401st IB has new commander

CAGAYAN de Oro City–– Brig. Gen. Gregor y M. Cayetano has officially assumed––in a traditional military honors––as the new commander of the 401st Infantry Brigade (401st IB) at the headquarters of the 4th Infantry Division (4ID), Camp Evangelista, Patag, Cagayan de Oro City on January 10, 2015. Cayetano was accorded with full military honors by the diamond troopers in front of the 4th ID admin building in recognition to his promotion to the rank of brigadier general. In his speech, Cayetano reminded the military men to maintain discipline and professionalism. He also asked them to be always alert. See commander, page A7

Bank grants water firm P202m loan

SURIGAO City––United Coconut Planters BankSurigao branch has recently granted the multi-million loan to Surigao Metropolitan Water District (SMWD). Young Allaniel Bumanglag, manager of UCPBSurigao told MindaNews Friday they have convinced SMWD to borrow P202, 759, 963.14 after offering the lowest interest rate. Dr. Bernardo T. CAGAYAN de Oro City-A total of 490 families from Natumolan, Tagoloan town who were victims of tropical storm Seniang in December 2014 benefited from food packs distributed by Misamis Oriental 2nd district Rep. Juliette T. Uy.

During the food pack distribution held last January 9 in Barangay Natumolan, Uy herself led the distribution of the food packs which consisted of six kilograms of rice, assorted canned goods and coffee. Uy acknowledged the D ep ar t ment of S o ci a l Welfare and Development

26 crew rescued

CAGAYAN de Oro City––All the 26 crew of a cargo vessel loaded with limestone that capsized in the vicinity of Camiguin Island Friday morning have been rescued, the Philippine Coastguard here said Friday evening. Lt. Cmdr. Eleazer Dalnay, spokesperson of the Philippine Coastguard based in this seaport capital, said that the LC7-378 left the port of Garcia Hernandez in Bohol Friday morning en route to Misamis Oriental when it capsized in the vicinity of Camiguin Island. ‘Rufus’ pushes bill to upgrade forestry law By CRIS DIAZ Executive Editor

CAGAYAN de Oro City––A lawmaker is urging Congress to amend the Forestry Profession Law in order that the profession of forestry could be designed according to changes of times. Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, of Cagayan De Oro City, said that he and Party List Rep. Maximo Rodgriguez had filed House Bill No. 5256 to align the forestry policies of the government’s development program. He said that they filed the bill because forestry is a dynamic profession that should depict the changes in the physical environment and conditions of the natural resources concerning national and global laws and policies. Rodriguez said that there are also ethical issues that should be addressed in the practice of the forestry profession. He said that the proposed bill would outline a new competence standards developed for the foresters to

show the specific knowledge and skills of the modern day forester. The Forestry Profession Law became a law under Republic Act 6239 on June 19, 1971 or some 37 years ago where some of its provisions have outgrown its relevance to the forest policies of the Philippines, Rodriguez said.
