SURIGAO CITY – Most of the dengue cases this year in Surigao del Norte have been recorded in three mining towns, according to Carmilito C. Mantong, pro-
vincial supervising sanitary inspector of the Provincial Health Office. Of the 181 cases from January to June 18, 66 occurred in Claver, 33 in Tubod and 16 in Placer.

GUSAN DEL SUR - Governor Adolph Edward Plaza was awarded the other day by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for his peacebuilding effort in the province. During the flag raising ceremony at the Naliyagan Cultural Center, Lt. Col. Honorio M. Abenojar, commanding officer of 544th Engineer Construction Battalion of the 52nd Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army, handed to Governor Plaza a plaque of appreciation for his “outstanding and meritorious achievements in the pursuit of peace and development and non-combat activities of the AFP”. The local chief executive has donated a 7.8-hectare lot for use of 544ECB at Barangay Patin-ay, Prosperidad, contributing to the welfare of the soldiers and to the people of Agusan del Sur,
especially the Indigenous Peoples (IPs). According to Sgt Major Dante J. Jabines of the 544ECB, it was on 2004 when the brigade arrived in the province and Governor Plaza allowed them to stay at D.O Plaza complex area until he decided to donate the area for military use. “We are very thankful to the governor for his support and in return, we as government peace-keepers, amo pud suportahan ang tanang programa sa gobernador for peace and development,” he said.
