International group sees hope for GPH-MILF peace process COTABATO City––The new head of the International Monitoring Team-Mindanao 10 (IMT-M10) recently arrived in the country and expressed optimism for the success of the on-going peace negotiations between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). Major General Dato Sheikh Muksin Bin Kasan took over as head of the IMT-M10 on last Sunday, March 15 in a ceremony held in Cotabato City. “The duty towards peace for the past 17 years has gone through turbulence, calm, good progress and challenges. The situation now is stable but tense and we hope that peace will prevail in Mindanao,” said Major General Kasan said. The IMT-M10 head, together with top officers of the Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH) both from the government and MILF side; the Ad Hoc Joint Action Group (AHJAG) of the government; the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP); and the local media also welcomed the new members of the

MinDA, Korean university sign MOU for urban disaster prevention By Cheng Ordonez Associate Editor

CAGAYAN de Oro City-The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SEOULTECH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding, both pledging support initiatives geared toward urban planning with highlights on climateproof development, Tuesday (March 17) at Koresco Hotel here.

Signatories to the MOA were Secretary Luwalhati Antonino, chairperson of MinDA, and Dr. Park Byung Gyu, director, Office of External Affairs and Cooperation of Seoul National University of Science and Technology based in Nowon-gu, Seoul, South Korea. Antonino pledges to support the initiatives of SE OU LT E C H , f u n d e d through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), on the conduct of

disaster-resilience study and preparation of climate-proof urban plan for the Province of Misamis Oriental, Cagayan de Oro, Iligan and nearby areas. SEOULTECH, a Koreanbased university renowned for its engineering, science and technology programs, reciprocally pledges support for MinDA’s initiatives in line with the goals and strategies laid down in the Mindanao 2020 Peace and Development Framework

VILLANUEVA, Misamis Oriental––The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) cited power-producer STEAG State Power Inc. (SPI) and other industry locators at the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in Misamis Oriental for responsible labor practices and for distinctly being proactive in voluntarily complying with the country’s labor standards and codes of best practices. Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz conferred the DOLE Certificate of Compliance to Steag and other Phividec locators during the recent launch and declaration of PIE-MO as Labor

Laws Compliant Economic Zone. Baldoz said that the award is an affirmation of DOLE’s recognition of the companies’ adherence to the general labor standards, occupational safety and health performance, and good labor relations. She said that Phividec’s 76 locators and service providers are now certified compliant with the country’s labor standards. The Certificate of Compliance has a validity of two years and exempt establishments from the DOLE’s annual assessment. See cited, page A11
