CAGAYAN de Oro City– –A defrocked priest in Bukidnon was shot dead Thursday morning in the town of Maramag in the presence of his eldest son, the police said.

Pol. Insp. Jiselle Este Lou M. Longgakit, the spokesperson of the Bukidnon provincial police office, said that hospital authorities declared Teresito M. Labastilla, 45, dead on arrival with a lone gunshot in the forehead.

Duterte to Aquino: Take the blame for Mamasapano

DAVAO City––President Benigno S. Aquino III must take full responsibility for the operation to capture terror suspect Zulkifli bin Hir, alias Marwan, in Mamasapano, Maguindanao on Jan. 25 which resulted in the death of 44 members of the elite Police Special Action Force (SAF), Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte on Wednesday said.

“I do not want to offend the President but somebody has to tell him that he has to stop this blame game by taking full responsibility for what happened in Mamasapano,” Duterte said in a statement issued in Dumaguete City.

“As Mayor of Davao City, for example, I take full responsibility for whatever happens in an operation which I order to be implemented,” he said.

The mayor cited a case where policemen who were following his orders were charged for alleged excesses in the killing of suspected kidnappers in the city last year.

Three firms in Oro pay taxes but ‘under protest’ Bukidnon • Camiguin • Lanao del Norte • Lanao del Sur • Misamis Occidental • Misamis Oriental

OWNERS of three business establishments in Cagayan de Oro City heeded the call of the influential Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc. (Oro Chamber) to pay the first quarter tax dues “under protest.”

In an interview, City Treasurer Dr. Glenn Bañez said that the three businesses attached in their respective payments a form provided by the Oro Chamber supposedly notifying the City Treasurer’s Office that they are complying the January 31 first quarter deadline but “under protest.”

In January, Engr. Cerael C. Donggay, also the president of Oro Chamber, issued a communiqué enjoining its members of the Oro Chamber to renew tax obligations with the city hall with the note “paid under protest.”

As of January 31, there

were 12,189 commercial establishments in the city which were able to beat the deadline set forth by city hall in sharp contrast to the City Council’s own imposed deadline of March 31 as according to City Ordinance no. 12904 which was ignored by the city government.

Bañez said he is also confident that no businessman would heed the call of Councilor Leon Gan to file a complaint against city hall if ever they will be charged for penalty and surcharge for not meeting the January 31 deadline.

Since February 1, Bañez has already waived for “meritorious” reasons the 25 percent surcharge and two percent penalties to 300 business establishments whose owners approached him.

“Ang iba d’yan di nila nalaman na January yung real deadline because of the confusion spread by the majority bloc of the City

Council. Ang iba naman they just heard from their neighbors that the deadline for the first quarter tax due is allegedly in March pa,” Bañez said.

“So I waived all the surcharges and penalties as reflected automatically in their February billing.

Nakita ko naman na meritorious yung reasons nila,” he added.

Representing five percent of the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) community in Cagayan de Oro, there were only 900 business establishments in the city which were not able to meet the January 31 deadline. But Bañez is confident that he could complete all the first quarter tax dues collection by the end of the month.

All the business establishment owners would do to forego the surcharge and penalty is for their owners to approach him in his office, he said.

Let justice prevail over apprehensions As journalists, we would have opted to refrain from making remarks that will jeopardize peace efforts in Mindanao. We would have opted to support the approval of a justifiable version of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL). We would have refrained from anything that would sensationalize news reports on the bloody incident. But it was no ordinary incident.

The latest inhuman, brutal, ruthless, cruel and senseless video scenes on the massacre of the Fallen 44 cry for justice. If it is not so, no gallant officers like Philippine National Police Officer-in-charge, Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina and sacked SAF Chief Getulio Napeñas, would have broken down emotionally, and unabashedly cry in public. Other police officers at a recent House Committee hearing were also seen crying.

Even the presence of MILF representative, Rashid Ladiasan, who was seen quietly seating opposite them, did not prevent the police officers from pouring out their emotional outburst.

Espina said he was not able to sleep after reviewing the medico-legal report, which claimed that some of the Special Action Force men didn’t get fatal shots during the encounter but died after being shot at close range. “Inspector Pabalina didn’t suffer any lethal shots.

Not enough. The MILF should conduct its own investigation and surrender their members who participated in the “overkill” of the SAF victims. Already, a public outcry is now heaping pressure on the Aquino administration to abandon the peace deal signed in March with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and seek retribution for the troopers’ deaths.

The Sp ecial Ac tion Force heroes who died in the hands of alleged Moro Islamic Liberation Front and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom fighters during the Mamasapano operations would rise from their graves if justice will not prevail.

Revisiting the ‘horse-drawn’ thinkers

What I believe is the biggest accomplishment the heroism of the 44 Special Action Force commandos of the national police has achieved is the stalling of the approval of the controversial Bangsamoro Basic Law, that law carving a large part of Mindanao to become a republic within a republic.

We are saying this because we seemed to notice that the CLUP lacks detail other than generalities.

For instance, the plan talks about the incorporation of environmental protection.

Yet, we have no idea how the plan about the environment should be carried out.

What about the roads and the drainages of the approved CLUP? More often, we cannot but sigh in contempt the shortsightedness of the past legislatures who planned most of the cities in the past. On the other hand, we cannot also blame our past legislators who saw the future with myopic eyes.

For instance, the roads and bridges in the past were constructed with a width designed to accommodate only two “Kalesas” (a horse-drawn carriage).

Obviously, the past legislators thought only horses as the only means of transportation at that time. Yet, although the orthodox legal luminaries in the past were focused on the “Kalesa” as the means of measuring a main thoroughfare, such thought actually persisted today. Certainly, the origin of the two-lane road width measurement was patterned after the “Kalesa.” Anyway, we are talking about the

it, the entire communication process would not be successful. There are situations that terms and phrases used by a teacher are complete strange to the thinking level students, making understanding and learning difficult to achieve.

Thus, teaching basics is one good idea of solving such problem. In other words, it is more effective to teach a lesson in a venue where a student is most comfortable at. In the mentioned problem, it is best to deliver a lesson in a language that much known to a student: the dialect of his own roots.

The implementation of Mother Tongue-based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) is addressing the same idea. It is a program under the Department of Education’s (DepEd) K to 12 Basic Education, that uses mother-tongue language in conducting classes for earlier levels of education, specifically kindergarten and grades one, two and three.

MTB-MLE encouraged improved and faster-paced learning among students since own dialect is the best transition tool in learning other languages such as English and Filipino which are mostly used in higher levels of education.

In a classroom interaction, it is important to see the importance of language. It is basic yet first to be considered because it is one effective avenue in overcoming poor learning.

SurSur guv assures DepEd division new leadership of support TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur – Surigao del Sur Governor Johnny Pimentel assured the new leadership of the Department of Education (DepEd) Division Office here of his support.

During the formal turn-over ceremony and welcome party held on February 11 at the Shacene Grand Ballroom, this city, Governor Johnny Pimentel said in his message “Ma’am Marilou, whatever the provincial government has extended support to Ma’am Fe Cabatuan, that is also the support I will give you in your incumbency.”

The governor was referring to Dr. Marilou Dedumo, who replaced Dr. Teofila Cabatuan at the helm of the DepEd here as the new Schools Division Superintendent. Cabatuan vacated the post on February 6 due to retirement age.

Crime group leader slain in Pagadian City;

Businesswoman wounded P AGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur -- A suspected crime group leader was killed while a businesswoman was injured in a shooting incident perpetrated by riding-in-tandem gunmen in this city, a police official disclosed Thursday.

Supt. Glenn Dulawan, local police chief, identified the fatality as Arnel Hasim, 33, a resident of Barangay Balangasan, this city.

Foreign, local birders to join 1st bird fest in Zambo

ZAMBOANGA CITY –The Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) in coordination with the Department of Tourism (DOT) here is now gearing up for the first locally-organized bird festival, tentatively scheduled on February 26-27. Foreign and local members of the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines are expected to join.

“Because of last year’s Philippine Bird Festival in Zamboanga City, many foreign and local birders have recognized the city as a birding destination,” shared DOT Regional Director Maryjune Bugante in a press conference yesterday.

The 9th Philippine Bird Festival was held February last year, barely six months after the siege. About a hundred members of the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines came and joined in the activities. Many of them are foreign tourists coming from Denmark, France, England and other countries.

“Promoting this activity is a challenge, considering the peace and order situation. However, we would like to note that last year, the bird festival was the first big event in the city after the siege,” said Bugante. “We would like to continue what was started, and the Wild Bird Club has been supporting us.”

Bugante explained that it was the bird club’s recognition of Zamboanga as having the highest count of migratory birds in the entire country that led to the holding of this activity. “They do this bird count every year,” she added.

“We are expecting many birders to join since most of them want to see for themselves the rich species of birds here, of those that they only see on Facebook,” Bugante stressed.

Bugante emphasized that the bird festival is not just about promoting tourism. In part, it is also promoting environmental awareness.

Part of the activities includes bird watching in the ZSCMST ponds where several migrant Egrets have made their residence and breed. Other activities include film showings for students as well as lectures from the bird experts.

Meanwhile, ZSCMST President Milavel Nazario shared her excitement for the activity. “We are very proud to host this first Zamboanga bird festival,” she said. “This is a very positive development for Zamboanga, and we have to move on from what had happened,” she said.

Zambo Sur gov orders filing of charges vs mangrove destroyers PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur – Gov. Antonio Cerilles has ordered the Task Force Bakawan to investigate and file charges against the people behind the destruction of the mangrove in Barangay Pisaan, Dinas, this province.

Cerilles issued the order after he received report supported with photographs that the mangrove areas in Barangay Pisaan, Dinas, are already denuded.

Reports stated the mangroves were cut by the residents who are engaged in charcoal business. The charcoal they produced is reportedly being sold in this city.

Over the weekend, the Task Force Bakawan has confiscated 51 sacks of charcoal made of mangrove and several illegally cut mangrove trees.

Cerilles said charges must be filed against those responsible since the cutting of mangroves is prohibited under existing law.

“It might be true they are poor but they are abusive and they destroyed the things which can help the poor like them,” Cerilles said.

Mangrove forests serve as spawning area for fish and crustaceans as well as habitat to oysters. It also protects coastal areas from erosion and storm surge.

Cerilles has also directed the task force to filed charges against those who are behind the illegal construction of fishponds. (PNA)

MATH reveals hidden patterns that help individuals understand the world of numbers around us. Learning Math is not about answers nor it is not about processes but learning across what real life situation is. Well, the truth is if you learn Math, you can use it all the time wisely or more successfully.

Most people who don’t use Math in their everyday lives can’t use it because they never really learned it.

In teaching there are thousands and thousands of strategies to increase and improve pupils/students mathematical skills but together on instructional activity, periodically switching roles as tutor and tutee. It offers one-on-one assistance for pupils having difficulties. It improves skills of tutor as well as tutee. Some benefits of this strategy is higher academic achievement,

improved relationships with peers, improved self-esteem and attitude toward school and improved interpersonal functioning.

The integration of peer tutoring in our classroom practices is very effective that enhances pupils’ mathematical ability especially to the least individuals, because they teach one another and learned from one another‘s mistakes and good points in life.

Through Math we can witness every beat of God’s creation….each moment our complete dependence is on Him. The insights of methods is use to help illustrate the world and part of our culture.

It is a performance, a living act, a way of interpreting the world on roles and find ways to overcome trials and problems. Indeed! The greatest formula ever is applying math and that’s what life is all about.

Music Education Through Internet

Teaching music in public elementary education in the Philippines is a bit challenging because schools are not provided with the basic needs in coping the subject such as musical instruments, books and most of all teachers who are properly trained or musically inclined. Others are saying “everything can be learned through times”, but what if teachers are assigned in a subject which is beyond his expertise. What would be the future of education?

What if time is not enough to handle students in a rapidly growing environment? These are the questions floating in the minds of everyone.

Lucky for us now because everything we wanted to learn is just on the tip of our fingers through internet. It helped me a lot to access full understanding and practical applications in teaching music subject. My strategy in dealing with students to connect to the situation every time we discuss the music subject is I am allowing them to manipulate musical softwares like Solfege for rhythmic patterns, Finale Music Notation and Musescore for note reading and musical piece composition, Circle of Fifths for chord relativity, VMPK

Digital Piano for scales and pitch sounds, Audacity for song recordings and sound remixing which I have installed in all the computers in our laboratory. This routine should be practiced constantly for mastery. We might find it hard at first, but sooner or later we will get used to it. Through this strategy the burden of explaining the musical theories and its rudiments are lightened.

My Grade VI students right now are no longer illiterate in reading the musical pieces. They can interpret and explain any basic musical symbols and compose for their own songs in a simple way. They can even remix their own music for dance and drama presentation and they develop the confidence for music subject.

In the absence of books, musical instruments and even expertise here comes the internet to the rescue as long as we teachers are there to facilitate and possess the determination and patience to learn. Internet is useful if not abused and users are guided properly especially the young minds in using it. By this method of teaching, the dream for better education can be attained.

This means that besides academics; one of the most important jobs of a kindergarten teacher is teaching the social skills children will need to become good citizens. I often joke that I am: part teacher, part social worker and part parent, and usually all at the same time! Even though there are increasingly more academic rigors placed upon educators; I still want to advance my students in every way possible –– through academics and social and emotional means –– and I want them to have fun doing it.

For me, the most important part of teaching children

is caring. It all begins with caring for children and what becomes of them. They have needs and wants, strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, and a future that I will help mold. As long as caring is there; I can be angry with them, exasperated and generally unhappy with them, and still teach them. I can never be indifferent to them and still be successful. When I care, they care.

Building this relationship enables my students to become much less afraid of making mistakes. Taking chances are necessary when first learning how to read or write in Kindergarten. Showing the children respect is essential for them to develop the trust they need to take those risks and to grow as learners. I believe that every child that steps across

the threshold of my classroom door will become a success.

I hold high expectations for each child in my classroom.

I believe that if you hold high expectations for your students they will and do strive to meet them.

Every child is different.

I believe that each child has unique strengths, diverse prior language learning experiences, and ideal learning styles. My instruction must be differentiated to provide enough challenge and support for all children to build on successfully and to develop positive attitudes about learning. In Kindergarten, one of my jobs is to develop the imagination and create memorable rituals, traditions, and celebrations that honor childhood. I want children to be active learners and disciplined, creative thinkers; to learn to make good choices and to work cooperatively, and

factors such as speed of operation, ease of use, social acceptability, security and time management among with the personnel of the department.

Through this implementation, public school administrators, teachers, and non- teaching staff give more value in punctuality, honesty, integrity and dedication for the welfare and future of our young Filipino children. to be kind and responsible. I want children to love coming to school each day.

I don’t remember much about Kindergarten myself, but I do know that I loved school and there are many things that I want my students to know. I want them to know that they can do anything. I want them to know that it’s okay to not always be successful, but you must try and work hard to do your best. I want them to know that I will always care about them. We become a part of each other, and we will always retain a little of each other. I want them to take the best parts of me with them.

Because of this sense of purpose and calling, children and the people here can lead a life changing experience that became a part of my professional growth. I was so blessed to have a supportive family and principal who was behind me in this noble deed.

MTAP MATH CHALLENGE: A MATH TEACHER’S CHALLENGE contestant that will represent our school in the MTAP Math Challenge. Quite tough but I am happy doing it.

Indeed the famous cliché, “Teaching is a noble profession”, is really true.

Teachers never grow rich and famous in teaching, but they become rich in nurturing children that will become the strong force that will make the nation succeed.

MTAP Math Challenge is just one of the many activities that teachers join to assess pupils’ skills and talents as well as teachers’ proficiency level, but the challenges that teachers (including myself) face is greatly satisfying. I should say, I will always be proud that I am a teacher.

I have been teaching in the public school for quite some time now. My first stint in the Division of Cagayan de Oro City was in one of a far flung barangay in the City where I first learned to value educating the least, the last and the lost. I have also discovered that teaching Math is indeed my passion. This I saw in the tiny and innocent eyes of my pupils who were so eager to listen and learn counting 1-10 and enjoyed every step in problem solving.

I was very amazed at how they painstakingly spend time solving a problem and the joy they explicitly show in finally solving the problem.

The happiness of a teacher is greatly overwhelming.

It was in 2003 when my principal saw my innate passion in teaching Math. She designated me to train Grade I pupils in the Metrobank- Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines (MTAP) DepEd Math Challenge, a Math Competition participated in by both private and public school pupils nationwide. I took it by heart and really embraced it as a challenge. It was never an easy task because it was an added work load from my regular teaching load as a Grade One teacher. I spent extra time every afternoon to discuss and practice the

qualified pupils in learning more techniques in solving Math problems. In addition, I also spent my Saturdays and even Sundays for review. The efforts and sacrifices I made were rewarded when my pupils qualified for the Division Oral Competition and doubled when they emerged as winners in the Division Competition.

I am fully aware that to some individuals, Math is a difficult subject. In my class, I make it a practice that every Math lesson is a fun lesson. DENR-Smart partnership backs sustainable practices in schools

T

HE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) reaffirmed their partnership and commitment in promoting sustainable environmental practices in schools.

Partners since 2009, DENR and Smart organize every other year the National Search for Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools, an event open to all public and private elementary, high schools, colleges and universities as a means to promote environmental stewardship among the youth.

“Smart has embraced environmental protection and conservation as an advocacy. Apart from internal

initiatives that reduce our carbon footprint and help mitigate climate change, we also help in raising public awareness of the need to protect and sustain the environment, especially among the youth,” said Ramon R. Isberto, head of Public Affairs at Smart.

For this year’s search, Smart is launching a digital campaign to further promote awareness of the advocacy.

Schools have until April 10, 2015 to submit their entries and winners will be announced in November.

They should also submit their entries (in three hard copies) to their respective DepEd Division Offices for public elementary and high school categories; and to EMB Regional Offices for private elementary and high school entries, as well as for the higher education/ college category.

Entries may also be submitted online (JPEG format with resolution of 300 dots per inch, minimum size of 1536 x 2048 pixels, and maximum file size of 1MB) via ecofriendlyschools@ gmail.com.

Entries will be judged according to the following criteria: Sustainability of school policy; environment-friendly school operations and presence of environmental programs; environment-related features of the school curriculum; presence of vibrant eco-organizations in campus; presence of partners and linkages in environment programs/projects; and socio-cultural and economic sustainability.

Only one entry per school will be accepted.

Three winners will be chosen for the elementary, high school, and college categories. First place winners will receive a cash prize of P50,000, while the second and third placers

I hope the suspension is not just another knee-jerk reaction on the part of our legislators as an aftermath of the carnage that happened in Mamasapano. Everyone hopes Congress will seek the views of those in Mindanao who will become subjects of this new state to be carved out of Mindanao.

We can’t afford to have a Ukraine-like situation in Mindanao where the people themselves are forced to side with either being proUkraine or pro-Russia. In such a situation peace will still be as elusive as it is now. The BBL will thus become another albatross that’ll bring Mindanao to deeper division.

We should never forget that Mindanao is peopled

by Filipinos who happen to embrace different and varying religious faiths.

Thus the national government can’t just say it’ll enter into a peace agreement with one religious group at the expense of the other religious groups in the area.

If peace be had in Mindanao, it should be premised on the desire of every citizen in Mindanao for peace. But has all Mindanaoanons been consulted about the BBL? Are the areas covered by the BBL in the event it becomes a law only occupied

by Muslim Filipinos or is it occupied also by nonMuslims?

All these questions will now be answered simply because 44 police commandos offered their lives so that everyone will be more vigilant about what is happening in Mindanao. This does not mean, however, that we are not for peace.

We are. We just don’t want peace to be rammed down into the throats of everyone who are supposed to benefit from such peace entered into by the government with any secessionist groups either armed or not.

If President Aquino had a hard time letting go of his friend Purisima, the unfortunate death of the 44 SAF commandos forced him to let go of the suspended police chief. And it is good that Aquino has finally decided to let go of his friend. You know Aquino is the type of leader who will not let go of any of his friends in his official family who he trusts so much because he does not want people to think he was wrong in choosing them.

Because he never imagined becoming president of the land, Aquino never built a wider network of friends who he could tap to be in his official family when he becomes president.

Letting go of one friend is thus a real ordeal for him because he does not have many friends who he could appoint to replace a friend

he let go of.

This is I believe is the reason why he is having a hard time looking for replacements to vacated posts due to retirements by their previous occupants such as the Commission on Elections, Commission on Audit, to mention just two.

The BOC-10, at the presence of some concerned government agencies, 70 container vans were opened in December last. Pague said the 70 container vans were loaded with 36,400 sacks of rice.

In January, Pague said another 60 container vans were opened and were found to be loaded with 31,200 sacks of rice.

Though outright misdeclaration is one of the most common forms of concealment, apprehending goods smuggled this way still tests our mettle in intelligence, profiling, risk management, and interagency teamwork,” explained Customs Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence Jessie Dellosa on its website.

“The containerized vans came from other countries but the sacks used were made to appear that they were produced locally,” he said.

Aside from premium and low-grade rice, the container vans––declared as various kitchenware, houseware, tiles, and mixed condiments––also contained agricultural products such as carrots, garlics, and potatoes.

Pague, however, admitted that EC Peninsula and New Dawn Enterprises were accredited importers based on the records of the BOC-10.

“This is why these two establishments were allowed to import,” said Pague.

On the contrary, Pague said, these accreditations are not a license to violate the provisions of the law that is the requirement of prior import permit if they will be importing rice, sugar, and any other perishable goods.

Pague said the EC Peninsula and New Dawn Enterprises have been charged previous smuggling raps before the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the alleged illegal importation of glutinous rice.

If found guilty, he said, the accreditations of both consignees with the BOC-10 will be cancelled––and will be held criminally liable.

Sharief told Mindanao Daily News that the peace accord between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GPH) and MILF must continue with finality.

During the rally, the groups have issued four recommendations to peacefully solve the Mamasapano incident. These are: 1. To give priority and clear investigation on the Mamasapano incident.

2. To give financial compensation to families of both PNP-SAF, BIFF, MILF, and civilians.

3. To request high-ranking officials of the government refrain from issuing hostile inflammatory statements again the Muslim.

4. To request one-peso donation from Bangsamoro people as an aid to the victims in the incident.

Last year, the Board of Investments in Region 11 (BOI-11) recorded P12.544 billion worth of investments. It said majority of the investments were on transportation, logistics and storage projects in Davao del Norte.

Romeo L. Castañaga, provincial director of DTIDavao del Norte, said earlier in an interview that these were the projects of Hijo International Port Services Inc., San Vicente Terminal and Brokerage Services and HLC Construction and Development Corp. which were granted fiscal incentives by BOI. Based on the records from BOI-11, Hijo International Port Services Inc. is pouring P5.724 billion for a seaport and container yard in Tagum City that can accommodate 450,000 20-footer equivalent units (TEUs) a year.

The other investor, San Vicente Terminal and Brokerage Services, a unit of Anflocor Group of Companies, has set up a P2.653billion Davao International Container Terminal in Panabo City. The terminal has a capacity of 400,000 TEUs per year.

BOI-11 added that HLC Construction and Development Corp. ventured into the Oakwood Residences project in Panabo City to the tune of P116.210 million.

Apart from BOI-11, Castañaga said Robinsons Land Corp. was also able to gain fiscal incentives from the local government of Tagum City for its P2.7 billion-mall. The company planned to start commercial operations by the end of the year.

In other words, the drainage system in other countries is only for liquid waste. In the Philippines our drainage system is like a sick human “cardiac system” that perennially suffers stroke due to arterial clogging out of plastics, woods, cans and carcasses. When will the Filipinos, especially the Cagayanons learn that the creeks and the drainages are not for plastics and solid waste? .

Why do we talk about this?

It is because we do not want to think that the detail of the much ballyhooed CLUP is nothing but another splendid display of “Kalesa” planners and legislators.

Two days to kill VALENTINE’S Day will be the last day for our two beloved interns who have been with us since November 16. Man that was a total of four months where our interns learned the daily operational grinds of BusinessWeek Mindanao and Mindanao Daily.

Mary Rose Silvidad and Kathleen Joy Meniano strutted into the office where they were introduced to our publisher and chief executive officer Dante Sudaria. They then were assigned to the Mindanao Daily editor-in-chief Allan Mediante. Because both are BA in English Language students at Bukidnon State University main campus in Malaybalay City, they were assigned to do

editorial jobs i.e. to let them feel how journalists work. At the time, Sir Allan was busy organizing the 1st Mindanao Daily Northern Mindanao Journalism Awards, enticing PR officers from both the public and private sector as well as high school and college communication students to compete with each other so they could enhance their writing skills, they being not practicing journalists. It was an enormous task but the two pretty ladies did their assigned duties with finesse and Sir Allan was really impressed with both of them. call themselves as Mingkat dutifully went with Sir Allan and editorial assistant Arjay to Gingoog City to promote the journalism tilt. Both during the CDO leg at MUST and during the awarding day at SM City Cagayan de Oro two days after Christmas, Mingkat had to travel from their Bukidnon campus just to be with the BusinessWeek/Mindanao Daily community on this momentous occasion. And that was even a Sunday, December 27, a family day at that. I could still recall Ming-ming’s adorable figure-hugging blue cocktail dress just for the event.

During the company’s Christmas party on December 20, the intern ladies mingled

and danced the night away with Spring Lif. Then we had bonding moments Spring Breakers style till the wee hours of dawn with the rest of the production team first at the city’s nightspots then onto the office.

The Year of the Goat ushered in a new era for the Mingkat double team. They were now allowed to go into the editorial field and hunt news stuff to be published in either BusinessWeek Mindanao or Mindanao Daily. They either went with me or with my coLifestyle editor Christine Cabiasa or editorial assistant Irene Dayo. Jesus touched the deaf man and was able to hear again. The power of Jesus released when the connection between him and the deaf took place. You need to find God in your life and try to connect to him for your healing and miracles.
