DOH adopts ASTM Medical Center Your Mindanao-wide Community Newspaper

ANDAG CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) has entered into agreement with the provincial government of Surigao del Sur, the Montero Medical Missions and 10 other public and private corporate groups, embracing the Adela Serra Ty Memorial Medical Center into the “Adopt-aHospital Program (AHP). DOH Secretary Erique T. Ona, who physically came for the occasion, explained that the AHP goes in line with DOH Administrative Order 2012-0030, the guideline on Foreign Surgical and Medical Mission FSMM) program. The program supports the Universal Health Care/ Kalusugan Pangkalahatan and the public- private partnership (PPP) strategy of the Department towards better delivery, efficient and quality health service to the public.

Secretary Ona said FSMM sets a series of activities where medical intervention and surgical services are provided to select underserved areas and communities by a foreign individual or organization, in partnership with the local government unit, non-government organization, hospital or medical society. “FSMM can either be a one-time conduct of medical mission or adopt a hospital program” he said. Students to launch anti-teen pregnancy drive By Angie Balen

BUTUAN CITY - Students from various colleges and universities in Caraga Region are converging in one of the schools here on August 1 to map out priorities, in support of government initiatives against teen pregnancy and other youth issues and concerns. Initiated by the Commission on Population (POPCOM-Caraga), in collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED-Caraga) and the Caraga Youth Leaders Network (CYLN), seeks to mainstream Adolescent Health and Youth Development (AHYD) program into the affairs of the student councils. This is a follow-up activity to the commitment made by student leaders during the recent Student Leaders Congress here. PopCom-Caraga will assist the student leaders in launching such projects and activities against teen pregnancy. A regional training on Events Organizing and Leadership Program shall be conducted on August 10-11. To recall, a total of LAunch | page 11

BUTUAN CITY – Agusan del Norte First District Rep. Lawrence Lemuel Fortun has expressed full support for President Aquino’s drive of getting more aggressive in going after grafters in government. Fortun made the statement in a radio interview after the President delivered his State of the Nation Address saying the chief executive was “moving in the right direction” by employing aggressive measures against corrupt people in government as he had lost his patience in urging them to change their ways. “This was a very strong statement coming from the President, that he will pursue his drive against corruption and abuse of power in the government. I believe that more effort should be taken in this campaign that will involve all of us,” he said. Fortun said he had made good BACKS | page 2
