500 lumads flee homes Conflict rages in Agusan town

Teacher’s coop robbed

CAMP RAFAEL RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – Some P129,000 cash and office equipment were stolen by unidentified persons from the Agusan del Norte Teachers, Retirees, Employees and Community Cooperative (ANTRECCO) at Barangay Libertad, this city in the evening of July 25. The incident was discovered at 7:30 a.m. of July 26 by the cooperative’s account manager, Dennis Coca Acio. Investigation revealed that the robbers gained entrance by destroying the padlocks of the rollup door, carted away the steel cabinet with vault containing the cash and pertinent documents. A l s o s t o l e n w e re four computer’s Central Processing Units (CPUs); three computer monitors; CCTV digital video recorder and Undisturbed Power Supply (UPS). Responding elements of Butuan City Police Station 3 (BCPS-3) processed the crime scene for possible traces of evidence leading to the identification of the perpetrators. AN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur —More than 500 residents of four remote villages in Loreto town have left their homes since last month to avoid being caught in the crossfire as hostilities continue between New Peoples Army rebels and Army soldiers.

Loreto Mayor Dario Otaza, in a phone interview with Mindanao Daily News, said the villages of Sta. Teresa, Kauswagan, Sabud and Sto. Nino mostly populated by ‘lumads’ have been declared under state of calamity, as a result of the conflict. “Residents left their homes because of fear from

the offensives of the New Peoples Army rebels,” Otaza said adding that atrocities have heightened after the killing of Village Chair Ramon Dioganon of Barangay Kauswagan.
