TALACOGON, Agusan del Sur––Thousands of residents in the four river towns of this province will no longer bear the brunt of the perennial low voltage power supply especially during peak hours which they have been suffering for many years.

Camiguin cites devts for 2014

CAGAYAN de Oro City–– Health care, airport improvement, product development and tourism promotion top the list of projects undertaken and to be undertaken by the provincial government of Camiguin in 2014.

Governor Jesus Jurdin Romualdo said the island province is gearing up for more developments this year following the Seal of Good Governance award it received from the Department of Interior and Local Government.

DILG-10 regional director Rene Burdeos personally delivered the award to the governor recently.

Sultan Ibrahim Limbona Marmay is the new ‘Sultan sa Balindong’

Sultan Ibrahim Limbona Marmay was successfully enthroned as Sultan sa Balindong, proclaimed by the 16 Royal Houses of Lanao lead by its chairman, Sultan Mayor Topaan Disomimba, the Sultan sa Masiu and incumbent mayor of Islamic municipality of Tamparan, Lanao del Sur. The enthronement was held on December 31, 2013 at Lilod, Balindong, Lanao del Sur. Sultan Marmay was unanimously voted to inherit the crown of Sultan sa Balindong after over three years of vacancy of the crown following the death of late Sultan Cosain Radiamoda.

More than 2,000 people which include religious leaders, professionals, government officials, relatives, friends and residents welcomed Sultan Marmay who just traveled all the way from Saguiaran, Marawi City and Marantao.

Present in the enthronement were 16 Royal Houses of Lanao headed by Sultan Mayor Topaan Disomimba and all other sultans like the 28 Legislative Council of Lanao. There were also datus, cabugatans and baes.

Sultan sa Ranao, Sultan Mayor Matura Manabilang also graced the event and served as guest speaker.

In his speech, he recognized the effort of four Pangampong of Lanao composed of 16 Royal Houses of Lanao who lead and work hard together with the ulamas, baes and people of Lanao for the development and maintenance of peace and order in the sultanate and to achieve progress in the place. looking forward to serve more and implement programs for the improvement of Balindong town.

Sultan Marmay is son of first Sultan sa Balindong, Sultan Marmay Radiamoda. He is happily married to Hadja Kumala Salih Marmay, grand daughter of Mayor Laling Has-

san of Parang Sulu and niece of Congressman Tupay Loong of Jolo, Sulu and Vice Governor Benjamin Loong of Sulu, as well. They were blessed with five children.

Sultan Marmay is also the incumbent Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II of Iligan City and Lanao del Norte.

No fare hike in C. de Oro

AGAYAN de Oro C ity–– There are no planned transportation fare hikes in Cagayan de Oro City and the rest of Northern Mindanao in the coming weeks.

This is according to Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board regional director Mandangan Darimbang who said that his office has not received any petition for a fare hike from public utility vehicle operators and drivers.

Darimbang said a fare hike is not feasible considering the fluctuating prices of crude oil not only in the city but in the entire country.

“It’s the national office that will decide about transportation fares,” he said.

Darimbang also clarified reports that renewal fees have increased, saying the basic fees remain the same for 2014 but some owners have to pay additional for

penalties and violations.

LTFRB-10 placed second in collections for 2012 and 2013 in the entire country but for this year Darimbang said they aim for the No. 1 spot.

“We will do this by way of strictly implementing regulations,” he said.

He said the number of public utility vehicles has not increased but the number of registered private vehicles has increased.

“We control the number of buses, taxis and jeepneys,” Darimbang said.

He added that this year some 300-400 units of taxis will be phased out becayse each will be 13 years old by the end of the year.

“Hopefully the owners will substitute them with new models,” he said.

For buses, the age limit is 15 years.

However, Darimbang said the LTFRB still needs to come up with guidelines for jeepneys because “it is hard to determine their year model.”

He noted that jeepneys are assembled from different parts from different sources.

Camiguin’s Mantigue Island: Now an ‘Eco-Tourism’ site

M ANT I G U E I s l a n d , Camiguin province––Only last year,the Department of Tourism in Northern Mindanao has declared Mantigue Island, an islet northeast of the island province of Camiguin, asan “Eco-Tourism Site” because

of its natural attraction and lustful beauty.

The island was also declared a “Migratory Bird Path” because of the Forest Nature Park right in the middle of the islet’s 6.9-hectare landmass where a variety of century old trees such asPandan grow.

A foot-trail leading to the deeper part of the Forest

Nature Park isa 383-meter area where huge fruit bats that hang like forbidden fruits in the island paradise.

The natural shades of a variety of tree species such as “Itum-itum”, “Ipil-ipil” and mangrove of varied species provide shelter to trekkers who have eyes on the nocturnal bats that sleep at day while hanging and

swinging on tree tops.

Since then, the island’s hidden beauty gradually springs back to life, now turning it into one of the favourite destinations of local and foreign tourists in Northern Mindanao.

DAR’s Support Services Projects

“The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Province of Zamboanga del Sur (ZDS) under the Beneficiaries Development & Coordination Division (BDCD) has completed and will be undertaking over a billion - worth of Foreign – Assisted projects (FAPs) including those with the Phil. National Government Agencies which are geared to increase the incomes and enhance the quality of lives and status of its Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs), cooperatives and associations for the development of its AR Communities (ARCs)”, stated Prov’l. Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Arturo Soria during the last monthly meeting with DAR - ZDS. PARPO II Soria informed that through the efforts of Congressman Antonio Cerilles, Congresswoman Aurora Cerilles & Cong. Victor Yu, the PhP 850 Million - to date, worth of ARCs materialized and are being implemented in 22 municipalities in ZDS. BDCD Chief., Engr. Josephine Sisican disclosed that sixty one (61) ARCP2 projects were already approved, four projects completed & turned over, and fifty seven (57) are on - going . She relayed that among these are Communal Irrigation Systems, Pre & Post Harvest Facilities, Multi – Purpose Centers, Health Stations, Bridges, Day Care Centers, School Bldgs., Water Systems & Tribal Halls.

Another FAP is the completed Potable Water in Bayog, ZDS costing PhP3.1 Million covered under the AR Infrastructure Support Project Phase III (ARISP III) funded by the Japan Bank

of International Cooperation.

Meanwhile, Payapa at Masaganang KaNAyunan (PAMANA) in Agrarian Reform Conflict Affected Areas’ Coordinator Myfanwy Decena updated that 122 project proposals were already approved for implementation in 122 barangays in Labangan, Dimataling, Dinas, San Pablo & Tabina, ZDS. “On the other hand, the Village Level Production Center Enhancement in Campo IV, Ramon Magsaysay is processing fresh, quality kaong at lesser market prices”, BDCD Chief Engr. Sisican added.

Moreover, BDCD Chief Sisican said that the PhP 263 Thousand Community Potable - Water & Sanitation Hygiene will be turned over to the LAICOR Fishpond Employees Multi – Purpose Coop in Brgy. Balas, Aurora on January 30, 2014.

PARPO I Sherwin Tubog went on that the ARC Connectivity & Economic Support Services have turned over PhP4.55 Million worth of Common Service Facilities like tractors & threshers to lead ARB Organizations, coops and associations in Dumingag & Kumalarang and satellite, in Tigbao, Dumalinao & Guipos, ZDS. Likewise, selected Officers of all DAR Assisted Cooperatives have completed 4 mandatory trainings held in coordination with the Cooperative Development Authority with remaining 10 for implementation.

It was also gathered that ARBs, their produces of rice, corn, coconut, banana & other high value crops and live stocks being raised are undergoing coverage under the DAR- Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation ARB Agricultural Insurance Program.

Micro Credit In Cooperatives under DAR – NATTCO partnership is also being undertaken with 200 plus increased membership in Baclay Multi – Purpose Coop, LUCATT – LBP ARC in Tukuran, ZDS. Also, Engrs. Sisican & Nabor Pepito made known that with Congressman Victor Yu spearheading, the PhP 20 M - Tulay ng Pangulo Para sa Kaunlaran (TNPK) in Tukuran, will soon be built with centennial – lasting materials like those of the Eifel Tower in Paris. The MOA on this has been signed. “Those TNPK projects in Josefina, Dimataling and Tigbao, ZDS are on the pipeline”, Pepito added.

The DAR - National Food Authority tie – up Program is likewise being promoted in all DAR –assisted - rice crop producing municipalities.

Program Beneficiaries Development - Lawyering in Tambulig, Ramon Magsaysay & Labangan is ongoing. Also interested coops are being oriented about the Agrarian Production Credit Program of which decreasing its lending interests are being lobbied by Congressman Yu. Finally, PhP 10.14 Million is programmed for Bottoms Up Budgeting for the municipalities of Aurora, Bayog, Dimataling, Kumalarang, Sominot, Tambulig and Tukuran, ZDS. “Indeed, the BDCD of DAR – ZDS is hurdled with tough challenges for Program Beneficiaries Development, but as always, has notably proved beyond par in its program implementation, easing the lives of its farmer beneficiaries resulting to ZDS - a thriving countryside in Southwestern Mindanao” remarked both RD IX Julita Ragandang & PARPO II Soria.

This came after the Agusan del Sur Electric Cooperative (Aselco) formally switched on here the other day the 5 megavolt ampere (5 MVA) substation transformer and the 35-kilometer 69 kilovolt ampere ( 69 KVA) transmission line that will stabilize the power supply in the neighboring towns of Talacogon, La Paz, Loreto and San Luis benefitting more than 13,000 households.

Residents in these towns situated along Agusan river suffer low voltage during peak hours at night time since supply of electricity

in the early 1980s which many lumad communities have been relying as their main source of livelihood.

The provincial government is bent on uplifting the plight of the still impoverished indigenous communitiies by putting small cottage industries in the ancestral land titles targetted to be developed into palm oil and rubber plantation areas.

Aselco general manager Emmanuel Galarse said the establishment of a separate substation transformer and transmission line was the response to the long clamor to the residents in the four river towns to address the growing demandfor supply due to the growing economic activity and advent of new foreign investors.

Aselco has a total capacity of 30 megawat excluding the 20 MW presently supplied to Philsaga Mining Corporation in Rosario town and another 5MW requirement when the construction of Gaisano Country Mall in tSan Francisco town will be finished this year.

Aselco board president Joel Jumonong said the substation and transmission line in Talacogon town is the second facility being built by cooperative within five years after first 69 KV transmission line and 10MVA substation in San Isidro , San Francisco.

DPWH officials urged to put warning signs council’s committees on public utilities and on laws took into consideration the report on the absence of early warning signs and devices on DPWH’s ongoing construction on the national highway that cut across the city’s downtown district here.

In a special report last week, Councilor Roger Abaday, chair of the city council’s committee on public utilities, asked the

city council to take necessary steps that would require the DPWH to adopt safety and protective measures for the public on the streets.

Abaday said that the DPWH has not installed traffic signs and reflectorized markings along the Kauswagan-Bulua, C.M. Recto-Lapasan Highway while the construction of the center island along the area was going-on.

Tabor said that the resolution urged the DPWH to put early warning devices beside the island to serve as guide to motorists and drivers especially at night.

The resolution cited several accidents occurring in the Kauswagan-Bulua highway and at the C.M. Recto area because of the absence of early warning devices while constructions in the area were going on.

After super typhoon Yolanda impacted heavily on the country’s tourism industry, tour and hotel operators should adopt an integrated disaster risk reduction management system to always be prepared at all times.

During the 7th Department of Tourism and Hotel Industry management convention in Manila, Sen. Koko Pimentel stressed the need to build a culture of preparedness and resiliency in the hospitality industry in order to cope up with the onslaught of stronger and deadlier typhoons.

He said that the tourism industry became a side victim to the tragedies, citing reports that the country will most likely miss its target of five million tourist arrivals this year because many travellers were dissuaded from coming here in the wake of the disasters.

Some 30 to 40 percent hotel and tour bookings were cancelled since Yolanda hit the country, but Pimentel, citing an old Chinese proverb, said that “the other side of calamity is opportunity.”

“The disasters I have mentioned also gave us the opportunity to demonstrate our love for one another, and our resilience as a people, traits that have not escaped the administration of other people,” Pimentel told the crowd of university students from Caloocan City.

He said that he had listened to the debates on the

recent tragedies, some blaming the national government and others the local officials.

But he said that the fingerpointing fails to appreciate the fact that preparing for and responding to calamities is a collective obligation of the local and national governments, and the private sector.

Pimentel said that major promoters of the tourism in the country should take to heart the painful lessons that those disasters have taught us.

While there is a law that already prescribes the ways by which people may ward off the dire consequences of calamities, Pimentel said it did quite envision that a calamity like Yolanda would hit the country with such force that it wasted whole barangays, towns and cities.

He warned that Yolanda types of disasters or worse will visit the country again sooner or later, asking the people to be prepared for the worst.

To be alert to the imminent perils, Pimentel said that the people must be made aware of what they need to do or not to do, to minimize, if not totally avoid, the evil effects of national disasters.

“Ignorance, they say, is a source of fear. It is a fertile ground for panic. Disaster plus a panicking people is

the perfect recipe for a bigger, a greater disaster,” he said.

Pimentel cited the World Disaster report of 2012 which ranked the Philippines as the third most disaster-prone country in the world while another study tagged the country as the most vulnerable to disasters.

While there is still need to craft new legislation to meet future calamity threats, he said that there are basic principles which can already be used for the guidance of the hotel and tourism industry.

First, he said, the people must be prepared with warning systems in place, disaster response networks organized, communications equipment on standby and evacuation centers established.

“Those who fail to prepare for contingencies are preparing to fail. In times of disasters, failure to prepare could result not only in massive destruction of property, but in the incalculable loss of lives,” he said.

Next, the people must take proper action before disaster strikes, and during and after calamities, he pointed out.

“Reducing the evil effects of calamities is our collective responsibility,” said Pimentel as he challenged the hotel industry operators to get involved, if not, take the lead in the realization of the suggested safety measures.

Realization PEOPLE keeping track with developments related to the rehabilitation of Super typhoon Yolanda devastated areas are now seeing the rational of President Aquino’s decision to tap former Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson as his administration’s rehabilitation czar.

Before he could warm his seat as rehabilitation czar an alleged overprice in the construction of bunkhouses to temporarily shelter the thousands of victims rendered homeless by the typhoon was already ordered investigated by him.

The secretly ordered investigation led to the expose that local politicians in connivance with unscrupulous contractors may have milked the budget for such bunkhouses. The Department of Public Works and Highways vehemently denied the overpricing charges with Secretary Rogelio Singson offering to resign from his post if this could be proven.

This is the advantage when Lacson is tasked to head an agency. The former senator from Cavite has zero tolerance for corruption. And he does not hesitate to hale to court anybody, friend or not, who may be corrupt.

The question, therefore, why the additional allowance?

It does not mean, however, that parent will not provide the intended sum. The logic is that the parent would simply want to know where the additional allowance would go. In return, the student would substantiate the reason why the need for an additional allowance. Once the parent is convinced, the granting of the additional allowance comes next.

We cannot blame the parents to be meticulous when it comes to expenses. They know that money they earned came out of hard work. Granting the request of the student for additional allowances without justifiable reason would certainly lead to perdition. The student would subject the parent to abuse that will affect the financial capability of the family.

In the case of the city government, like a doting parent, the City Council acts as the sentinel of the city’s financial coffers. In pushing for the approval of the proposed P 2.6 billion 2014, the City Mayor argues that the Executive Department has the duty to spend the money while the City Council has the duty to approve the budget.

Gen. Carlos Garcia and his family to plead guilty to a lesser offense---direct bribery---and thereafter escape prosecution for the much bigger crime of plunder.

Under the law, is it not that whatever Sulit may have recommended in the Garcia case, including the plea bargaining agreement, would really amount to

nothing if her superior officer did not approve it?

And, is it not a fact that when that superior officer, the Ombudsman, approved Sulit’s recommendation, it was officially no longer an act of Sulit, but the act of the Ombudsman hmself?

More fires in Zambo in 2013 due to standoff

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Properties damaged by fire last year registered a huge increase compared to 2012 due to the standoff with the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) – Misuari faction, the Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD) of the Bureau of Fire Protection said.

Supt. Dominador Zabala Jr., ZCFD Fire Marshall said the value of properties destroyed in fire incidents in 2013 reached P193.9 million or an increase of P187.8 million compared to only P6.037 million registered in 2012.

Zabala said the huge increase was due to the 46 fire incidents that erupted during the three-week standoff in September.

The fighting started last September 9 when hundreds of MNLF rebels

entered the city and engaged government forces in gunfights in at least four adjoining barangays near the city proper.

The ZCFD recorded 110 fire incidents for 2013 and only 43 incidents in 2012, according to Zabala.

He said two civilians were killed and 13 others, including a fireman, were injured in fire incidents in 2013.

Zabala urged the public to always take precautions to avoid fire incidents, saying he is looking forward to fewer fires this year.

Dipolog to receive P3-M from DILG

DIPOLOG CITY – The city government here is expected to receive P3 million this year from the Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

This incentive, which is funded under the 20% Local Development Fund (LDF), is given to the local government unit (LGU) through a counterpart funding scheme in the implementation of projects under the Annual Investment Program (AIP).

Big PHL banana firms join industry cluster team

AVAO CITY -- Big growers and exporters in the Philippine banana industry have finally joined the cluster team of the banana industry.

In their first meeting with the banana cluster team on Monday, Stephen Antig, chairman of the Pilipino Banana Growers and Exporters Association or PBGEA, took the task of heading the committee to

look for an expert to study how to set up a mechanism for a proposed “banana industry board”.

Antig said this industry board is important to the banana industry to help all the stakeholders solve

many problems that often cripple the entire industry, and affecting farmers, growers, exporters and service providers.

“We need to conduct this study to determine how this entity or industry board will operate. We need to get together as one to help each other solve problems in the industry,” Antig told consultants of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and industry stakeholders from government agencies, farmers, cooperatives and the academe.

The banana industry, according to Antig, had been hit by many problems like the Panama wilt, aerial spraying, low buying prices, pole vaulting, lack of financing, and destructive typhoons and floods. “It’s about time we have a formal body composed of banana industry stakeholders who will sit down and try to solve these problems together,” the PBGEA chair said.

industry backed up by foreign-funded graduate studies in agriculture business management and industry development, is now being reviewed and considered by Antig and his committee in the banana industry cluster.

Joining the PBGEA during a recent industry cluster meeting were top representatives of the Mindanao Banana Growers and Exporters Association, (MBGEA), Federation of ARB Banana-based Cooperatives (FEDCO), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Agriculture (DA), and Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and the Land Bank of the Philippines.

The banana industry cluster team is currently headed by Ireneo Dalayon, chief executive officer of FEDCO, a federation of some 16 banana cooperatives in the Davao region representing small fruit growers. (PNA)

23 Davao wood processors to set up bio-mass fuel plant DAVAO CITY -– About 23 wood processors based in Panabo City, Davao del Norte, are planning to set up a “bio-mass fuel project” that will turn saw dust, wood cuttings and other wood wastes into fuel for various consumer and industrial uses.

In a recent industry cluster report to consultants of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), cluster coordinator Leonil Floresta said the wood cluster will soon get assistance from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for a P10-million joint project that will make use of tons of wood wastes like saw dust, cuttings, etc. and turn them into bio-mass fuel in the form of charcoal pellets. ”There’s just too much wastes in the wood industry, so we plan to turn all these wastes into additional income for all wood processors in Davao participating in this joint project with DOST,” Foresta said.

The DOST, according to Floresta, will provide and install the bio-mass fuel plant equipment for the wood processors sometime

in the third quarter this year.

Wood processors are turning to alternative sources of income like this DOSTled project because of the “cheap buying prices of pallets”-- their main source of income--paid by many banana firms to “illegal suppliers” or wood processors who do not have permits from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), according to wood cluster chair Loiue Rabat.

Among improvements in the health care system for the residents of the province are construction of a mini heart center, diagnostic center, rehabilitation center and mental hospital.

Next week medical personnel of the government will undergo training in the use of the CT scan technology that will be brought to Camiguin for the first time.

In February, the mental hospital wll be operational and would be able to accommodate some 20 patients.

Romualdo said the province has some 280 cases of mental illness but most of these would be out-patients to be given medications.

He said the World Health Organization and the Department of Health have signified their help in providing medicines.

The province will be looking at signing memorandums of agreement with the DOH and hospitals in Northern Mindanao with psychiatric services for tieups in psychiatric care.

For the airport, Romualdo said the Department of Transportation and Communications has issued an executive order for a program of expansion work that will improve the airport operations of the province.

This means rehabilitation of the airport terminal and improvement of landing equipment for eventual direct flights from Manila.

Romualdo said the Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific are looking into additional flights for the province.

In June, the Department of Trade and Industry will be promoting in China a number of food products of Camiguin such as pastels, peanut brittle and tableya.

The products will be displayed at an exposition that is held annually in China.

Romualdo said the province continues to develop its tourism industry and announced that Camiguin will be one of five places in the Philippines to be promoted in London during the World Tourism Conference in November.

The four other places are Albay, Cebu, Boracay and Bohol and the lead agency there will be the Department of Tourism.

The governor also cited the regularization of the fast craft service between Cagayan de Oro City and Camiguin as well as projects to rehabilitate the seaports around the island.

Underscoring the need to institute fool-proof measures to insulate the congressional fund from being abused, Lacson stopped availing of such fund until measures are put in place to insure the integrity of the disbursement of the congressional fund. Until he finished his second term, Lacson shied away from the controversial congressional fund also known as pork barrel fund.

On his first visit as rehabilitation czar to the typhoon devastated areas in December, Lacson immediately tasked the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the national police to look into possible overpricing of the bunkhouses he inspected. This is how intolerant Lacson is when it comes to corruption.

As a former policeman who became the chief of the national police, Lacson immediately smells something fishy in government contracts and projects. Like a good newsman who has nose for news, Lacson is also endowed with the ability to immediately spot if corruption played or is playing a role in any government project.

Perhaps this could be one of the many reasons

why P-Noy entrusted to Lacson the task of overseeing the rehabilitation of the typhoon devastated areas because of the latter’s no nonsense attitude when it comes to the spending of public funds. With Lacson as rehabilitation czar, PNoy can rest assured every centavo is spent only for rehabilitation.

Despite the accusations about his supposed incompetence the fact that P-Noy is not corrupt, his penchant is always to bring into his administration people who share with him in his ideals.

And he has the ability also to spot the corrupt from the non-corrupt. Though this does not mean there are no corruption charges hurled against the Aquino administration.

But the truth is that up to this writing no one from even Aquino’s most hardened political detractors could accuse him of having committed corruption since he assumed the presidency. For this fact alone, we should already be thankful.

If my memory serves me right, I could remember that on the fifth day of the illegitimate Arroyo administration corruption in the form of extortion of a businessman closely allied with deposed President Estrada by a high ranking Arroyo administration official was already exposed. The official was recently absolved by the Supreme Court not because the government failed to prove its case but because it took five years for the Ombudsman to file the case in the Sandiganbayan.

Aquino had been accused of incompetence, of having a bad work habit and many other accusations, real or imagined, but one thing no one could deny is the fact that he has not been accused of corruption.

His disdain for corruption must be the reason why he named a man who equally disdains corruption at the helm of the rehabilitation of Yolanda devastated areas.

As the saying goes, it takes one to know one. Since P-Noy disdains corruption, he knows that Lacson likewise disdains this menace that has become part and parcel of governance until

Aquino became President of the land.

Accuse me of being proAquino and pro-Lacson and I will not dispute your accusation because I am all out against all forms of corruption in government.

I am very tired already with corruption hence my readiness to embrace anyone who disdains corruption as well.

DOH: 62 measles cases admitted to health units

BUTUAN City––The Department of Health has reported that a total of 62 suspected measles cases were admitted to different disease reporting units for measles in Caraga Region, three were laboratory confirmed rubella and 16 cases showed measles-like

signs and symptoms but no specimen was gathered for laboratory confirmation.

In a media release, the DOH in Caraga said that out of 62 suspected measles cases, Cabadbaran City had 42, Agusan del Sur, 7, Butuan City, 6, Agusan del Norte, 5, Surigao City, l and Tandag City, 1.

Cabadbaran City had two laboratory-confirmed

rubella, and Butuan City has one.

Of the 16 clinically measles cases with measles-like signs or symptoms, the DOH Center for Health Development in Caraga reported that 10 cases were reported in Cabadbaran City, 2 in Butuan City, and one each in Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao City and

Tandag City.

Fifty-two percent of those with suspected measles were females with ages ranging from two months old to 55 years old.

Thirty-nine or 63 percent of the cases were vaccinated, DOH-Caraga said.

Out of three laboratoryconfirmed rubella cases, only one was vaccinated, it said.
