Health execs alarmed over rise in HIV in Surigao Norte

URIGAO City–– Health officials h av e e x pr e s s e d alarm over the rising number of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) cases in Surigao del Norte. Jessica L. Nepomuceno, program coordinator of the Sexually Transmitted Infections /HIV/Acquired Immune Deficienc y Syndrome (AIDS) program of the City Health Office, said there are two new additional HIV patients discovered this year.

Comelec to disqualify JV Ejercito CAGAYAN de Oro City–– Senator Joseph Victor (JV) Ejercito is now facing a disqualification case from the Commission on Elections (Comelec). In an interview on Friday in Cagayan de Oro, Ejercito said he had just received a text message informing him of the disqualification case for alleged overspending during the last elections. He, however, downplayed the case, saying he did not overspend in his TV commercials during the elections. “One or two a day lang ang commercials ko,” he said, adding that the ratio of his commercials to that of other candidates is 1:5 or 1:6. Police release facial composite of alleged killer of 2 Swiss men By GERRY LEE GORIT Correspondent

CAGAYAN de Oro City-Police yesterday released the facial composite of one of the alleged suspects in the twin murders of Swiss nationals who were shot to death last Sunday in Opol in Misamis Oriental. The sketch is based on eye witness accounts and on a photograph taken just

before the shooting at a beach resort. Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Region 10 chief Col. Pedro Austria said, however, that the suspect has yet to be identified. Austria said the special investigating task force already has led on the killers. He said the task force, composed of the CIDG, provincial police office and

the municipal police station, is looking into at least two gunmen. “The crime laboratory has determined two caliber .45 pistols used in the shooting, based on the bullets and empty shells recovered at the crime scene,” Austria said. CAGAYAN de Oro City––A lawyer was charged with kidnapping and serious illegal detention for the reported disappearance of a minor here, a police officer said. Police Sr. Insp. Elmer Robas, commander of the police station in Cugman, this city, has charged lawyer Ely Pamatong in connection with the disappearance of a 17-year-old boy here. Robas said that the case was filed with the city fiscal’s office here last Thursday after the boy’s parents alleged that Pamatong has been keeping their son in an exclusive compound in Tablon, a coastal village here. In a radio interview, Pam atong ha s d e n i e d

keeping the boy. Instead, Pamatong accused Robas as responsible for the disappearance of the boy. In the same interview, Pamatong also alleged that Robas reportedly utilized the boy as a courier and errand for an illegal drug trade here. Robas, denied Pamatong’s accusation, saying that he did not even know the boy since “I was assigned in Cugman a year ago and have no knowledge of the people there.” “Pamatong is concocting an incredible accusation,” Robas said.
