DA-13 sets aside P30m for organic agriculture program

DPWH XI wants quarrying near Davao bridge stopped monday, october 6,

AVAO City - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) asked the city government to stop illegal quarrying that has caused erosion at the base of the Generoso Bridge on Davao River.

In a press briefing held Thursday (October 2) at the DPWH regional office, director Mariano Alquiza said quarrying along the banks of Davao River has led to scouring near the base of the bridge.

The bridge was undergoing rehabilitation resulting in heavy traffic on both sides.

Duterte issued an executive creating the task force last week. Its task is to investigate illegal quarrying and identify the sources of siltation in rivers within the city.

In the same briefing, DPWH Project Leader Alvin Cabueñas said retrofitting of the structure was already 90.55% complete.

Originally scheduled to be completed by October, Cabueñas said the bridge needs another month to be

operational, citing unforeseen factors such as water turbulence during heavy rains and further erosion at the base and nearby parts of the river banks.

He said that the bridge could be operational by November 6.

He added that the team doing the retrofitting asked the regional office to revise the contract amount of the project from P63 million to P69 million, since the contractor will also be reinforcing the slope near the base as well as rehabilitate a nearby drainage system, which has contributed to the soil erosion.

The slope retrofitting

involves the placement of gabions to replace mesh wires that used to protect the bank.

Cabueñas said the contractor will use strong nylon fiber in protecting the slope near the base because it is stronger than steel mesh wire, which used to be the main protection against scouring.

According to a knowledgeable source, gabions can withstand pressures of 30,000 psi, which makes it perfect for erosion protection in bodies of water.

The source added that steel mesh wire would be useless since it would deteriorate due to rust.

DPWH had come under fire from the city government, especially from Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte, who said the traffic congestion in the city has become unbearable because of several construction projects.

Alquiza, however, said that they regularly coordinate with city officials regarding updates on any public works.

He said the project was supposed to start last year but was delayed for four months owing to the request of the city government itself.

Duterte had to meet with residents living under the bridge last year to con-

vince them to leave for the construction of two bridge projects, one by the DPWH and another by the Davao City Water District.

Alquiza said the structure where the DCWD placed its pipes obstructed the boring of piles by DPWH causing the monthlong delay to the retrofitting.

Duterte, in previous interviews, had asked why only a few personnel were working in construction sites for public works.

Alquiza said the number of workers would depend on the kind of work being done at a particular time.

DAVAO City - A tribal leader from Kapalong, Davao del Norte believed that the recent attempt to kill a peasant organizer may be the “next level” of harassment to force them to give-up their demand of pulling-out Army troops from their communities.

peoples group Karadyawan, said the attempt to kill Dexter Selebrado, a volunteer peasant organizer, last September 29 in Tagum City is a “desperate attempt to weaken their organization.”

“We have been consistent that we want to pull out military troops from our communities. Even we, face recent threats like the revival of the Alamara (paramilitary group).

our organization and unity,” said Malibato.

Selebrado himself suspect some in the local government of Kapalong and the Army as behind the attempt to kill him.

The Army’s 10th Infantry Division Commander, Major General Eduardo Año, denied the allegations.

“We never order such things. We equally condemn this act, and whoever the perpetrator of this should be apprehended and made to answer for the crime,” said Año in a text message sent to Davao Today.

Malibato said that last September 28, his 14-year old son was on his was way to the Kapalong town center “but was intercepted by an Alamara in Sitio Patil and was shot with an M14 rifle by hengemen of

Datu Larris.”

Malibato said his son was not hit and was saved by a cousin who recognized him.

“But, he is already in shock having almost hit. He was supposed to buy school supplies for the entire school,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pedro Arnado, Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas Southern Mindanao Southern Mindanao spokesperson, said they are “already fearless with such attempts.”

“Our volunteers, some son of farmers themselves from other provinces or regions, go to the farthest reaches of the countrysides to help farmers,” he said.

He said they are always “looking behind their back” but know “that the sacrifice of one’s life for the people is sometimes unavoidable.”

DA-13 sets aside P30m for organic agriculture program

ISLIG City - The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office XIII through its Organic Agriculture (OA) Program, allocated P30 million for extension support, education, and training services to equip practitioners with sufficient tools to firm up stakeholders’ knowledge and skills on organic agriculture.

“We made sure that we are funding eligible partners with qualified project proposals to further provide, propagate, develop and implement the program,”

Regional Agriculture Focal Person Rebecca Atega said.

As one of the local government units who participated in the program to encourage farmers discover for themselves the benefits of organic farming, Bislig City has initiated the establishment of a vermi-culture center with Organic Agriculture (OA) funding of P221,776 from the Department of Agriculture, with labor and land as counterpart.

The amount was used to construct additional vermi beds to expand existing vermi-culture area including bio-fertilizer processing.

Sayman said the project has twin goals: “First is to contribute in attaining sustainable farming and serve as a techno-demo for farmers who want to emulate organic technology. Second, is that vermi-composting and bio-fertilizer production should sustain itself as an income-generating activity.”

To attain these goals, the Bislig City Agriculturist Office conducted hands-on trainings to 300 organic farmer-practitioners, who were receptive to change their farming endeavor. To emphasize the importance of organic farming, farmers were encouraged to engage in vermi-culture and to

produce their own organic fertilizers from identified leguminous plants rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium like madre de agua, madre de cacao, ipilipil, flamengia, and the like.

Vermi-compost and NFTS concoctions made by individual farmers are then used for fruit trees, cereal crops and vegetables. Such endeavors eventually produced positive results.

Farmer Vicente Macapili has this to say of the results, “Despite heavy nutrient extraction by repeated harvests, I have been able to sustain my production of cucumber (pipino) since last year. In fact, I can har-

vest 360 kilos of organically grown pipino every harvest and can sell my produce at P15 per kilo in the local market. As I have observed, the fertility of the soil was gradually improving because of the continuous application of vermi-compost and organic fertilizers.”

Vermi-composting and bio-fertilizer processing of Bislig City Agriculturist Office has become an incomegenerating activity for the past two years. Presently, the total vermi-cast production has increased to 3,000 kilograms/cycle compared to 300 kg/cycle in 2012.

On the other hand, biofertilizer processing also

produced 5,000 kgs/cycle and the office was able to sell at P500 per 50-kilo sack.

Proceeds from the sale of the bio-fertilizer were deposited in the LGU Organic Agriculture Trust Fund. As of June, 2014, savings reached P122,745.

City Agriculturist Primacar Sabibi said the trust fund will be used for the next project and activities for the organic agriculture program.

“We will conduct training of youths, housewives and other stakeholders on organic farming technologies and for those who are willing to learn and become advocates of organic agriculture practices,” she added.

AFP, PNP glorify SurSur for holding Peace Summit TANDAG City - Both the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) have highly regarded the successful conduct of the Peace Summit in Surigao del Sur to have lasting effect.

Freedom of Information and Press Freedom

It is the media that empowers citizens to make educated decisions in order to achieve democratic reforms in our society.

However, media still faces a series of challenges such as indifference from the private sector, especially the higher class, and an environment of continued mistrust between the government and the press.

Most government offices are reluctant to share their information with the press and the public.

On this note, the government must develop guidelines for offices to deal on transparency issues with the media. We can only hope that increased

transparency would dispel that mistrust.

Another challenge for the today, especially for media practitioners, is ethics and positive reporting. There is a scant opportunity for practitioners in joining journalism training programs.

When there are trainings and seminars, only the known ones or the experience journalists are being invited. Media organizations, or even in-house media outlets should develop training modules for the struggling and young journalists to help improve the standard of journalism.

Why do people wonder

I quietly push down the head of my pen, closed my organizer and mentally rushed out of the room.

From the enclosed conference room I could hear the thunder and the screeching of lightning, giving me visions of flooded streets and stalled cars on the streets. If there is a place so nightmarish to be in when inclement weather like the one about to hover about us, it is Manila. And boy, I was in Padre Faura when a big downpour hit Manila on the first day of October.

After waiting for almost an hour for the rain to subside, my colleague and I headed to a nearby mall where we thought to get a cab. The still flooded sidewalks pushed pedestrians towards the center of the street competing with vehicles for waterless path.

The occasional puddle of rainwater (and who knows what else) that I accidentally stepped on a couple of times brought tingling down my spine at the thought of dirty water infecting the little cut in my right foot.

Getting a cab in this weather and place was pointless. The taxi driver who picked us up at the mall, purely out of fear of being apprehended for refusing to take in passengers, but had no intention of bringing us to Cubao, advised us to take the LRT and go north where the transportation and flooding situations may be manageable. After giving him the flag- down fare and grudgingly thanking him for his advice, we joined the throng of pedestrians heading towards Taft Ave. The sight of the LRT Pedro Gil station confirmed what

Quality of the news and ethical standards are questioned by many because they thought that there are no adequate public redress or complaint systems. This is not true.

For one thing, the Philippine Press Institute (PPI) the association of national newspapers, has its Press Council which entertains complaints against erring journalists or newspapers.

Another challenge is the amount of media coverage for minority areas such as indigents and marginalized sectors.

There is a need to promote journalism in these areas.

The government has a reform strategy which is unacceptable to the journalists because it violates the freedom of the press which is enshrined in the country’s constitution and by-laws.

Two vital issues are at hand - the Freedom of Information Bill and Decriminalization of Libel.

Once these are settled, there will be more honestto-goodness appreciation of the journalist’s presence in a free society.

BSP: No shortage; people keep coins in piggy banks CAGAYAN de Oro City––A senior official of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has assured the public that there is no shortage in the supply of coins.

Dexter Erick Demafeliz, senior research specialist of BSP Cagayan de Oro branch, said the BSP issued around 21.86 billion pieces of coins as of August 31, 2014.

Demafeliz said the problem is not on supply but on circulation of coins.

This is because some people keep coins in piggy banks, draw-

ers and other containers, he said.

He said the solution to the perceived shortage is re-circulation of coins by all users that is why BSP launched an inter-agency coin recirculation contest on October 1 during the opening ceremony of the 25th National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration in the region.

The contest aims to flush-out idle coins in storage, promote the importance of coins, and correct wrongful sales practices.

The inter-agency coin re-

circulation contest is open to agency members of the Regional Statistical Coordination Committee (RSCC).

The agency with the most number of collected fit coins donated by their employees wins the contest and their chosen beneficiary gets the proceeds.

The coins must still be shiny, in its original size and form, and free from adhesive tapes and any form of damage, said Demafeliz.

Coins which are bent or twisted out of shape, defaced or with signs

of corrosion, has been considerably reduced in weight by natural abrasion or wear and tear, and has shown signs of flipping, clipping or perforation are considered unfit and will not be accepted in the contest.

“We will only accept fit coins because our main purpose is recirculation,” he added.

Also, only low denomination legal tender, -25, -10, -5 and -1 centavo coins collected will be included in the counting.

Demafeliz said the inter-agency

coin recirculation contest will run from October 1 until October 27, 2014.

Collected coins must be submitted for counting to BSP Cagayan de Oro branch only on October 27 from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. Coins will not be accepted before and beyond the allotted schedule. Top three winners will be awarded trophies during the NSM culminating activity on October 30 while other participating agencies will be given certificates.

Solon urges House body DBM OKs Oro’s SB to investigate K-12 program REPRESENTATIVE Eric L. Olivarez of the first district of Parañaque City has sought for a congressional inquiry into the implementation of the controversial K-12 program of the Department of Education (DepEd) beginning 2016.

Olivarez, aut hor of House Resolution 1472, said the K-12 program needs sufficient preparation for its successful implementation.

The K-12 program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education consisting of six years of primary education, four years of junior high school and two years of senior high school.

He said the additional years in senior high schools will take away the new enrollees for college freshmen and may cause the school to terminate the teachers for freshmen.

“The program would create a shortage of teachers for kindergarten and senior

high school since seniors will move to Grade 11 in 2016 and later to Grade 12,” Olivarez said.

“There is a scarcity of available qualified teachers for basic education necessary for the implementation of K-12 due to a few holders of Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET),” he added.

The lawmaker said the implementation of the program also requires additional classrooms in schools nationwide and is projected that it is only by the year 2016 that schools could cope with augmentation of additional classrooms.

of K-12 is imperative to enable the government to address the problems of lack of teachers and classrooms, schools material, training and licensure of teacher, the low salary of teachers, and the availability of jobs for the teachers who will be affected by the program.

DepEd Undersecretary Yolanda Quijano said the Philippines is the only countr y in Asia that is not yet implementing a 12-year basic education curriculum and that the 10-year education program restricts Filipino graduates from seeking employment abroad.

Zamboanga City approves firecracker ban ordinance Z AMBOANGA City - Starting this year, residents will have to find other ways to celebrate Christmas and welcome the New Year with the passage of an ordinance that bans firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices.

In its regular session last week, the city council approved on third and final reading Ordinance No. 2014-35 banning the use, sale, possession, distribution, storage, and manufacture of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices.

Councilor Benjamin Guingona and 14 of his colleagues sponsored what is now “The Firecracker Ban Ordinance of 2014.”

Guingona said violators will be slapped with a fine of not less than P1,000 nor more than P5,000 or imprisonment of not less than six months nor more than one year or both at the discretion of the court.

He, however, said the ordinance allows the transshipment and temporary storage of firecrackers or pyrotechnic devices intended for transport to other areas.

determine the temporary storage area in coordination with the Firearms, Explosives, Security Service Agency and Guards Supervisory Section.

He said the allowable period for temporary storage is three days and may be extended for another three days if there are valid reasons.

Last year, Salazar issued an executive order banning the use, sale and distribution of all types of firecrackers and pyrotechnics in this city amid fears brought about by the September 2013 standoff between government forces and members of the Moro National Liberation Front loyal to Nur Misuari.

And President Benigno Aquino may have erred when he signed last month Proclamation Number 875 declaring October 6 as a regular holiday in observance of Eid al-Adha.

The Palace said the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos recommended that the observance of Eid al-Adha be on October 6 based on the declaration made by Saudi Arabia’s highest religious body.

Eid al-Adha celebrates the occasion when Allah appeared to Ibrahim in a dream and asked him to sacrifice his son Isma’il as an act of obedience to God. The devil tempted Ibrahim by saying he should disobey Allah and spare his son. As

Ibrahim was about to kill his son, Allah stopped him and gave him a lamb to sacrifice instead.

This festival is largely celebrated with prayers in mosque which is followed by sharing of foods among Muslims.

In the Muslim province of Sulu, mosques were full and others, led by their imam, prayed outside, to ask for forgiveness and give thanks to God for blessings they received.

Provincial Engineer Abdurasad Baih said Sulu Governor Totoh Tan led hundreds of residents in the prayers outside the Capitol building. And that Vice Governor Sakur Tan and Mayor Samier Tan led residents of Maimbung town to similar prayers in the mosque.

day. So, as I sat in a cramped FX heading home, my mind went though the light moments of the day, even though deep inside, I was an inch close to throwing a tantrum. I also thought, why not write a part two of my colleague’s On the Fringes entry titled, “Maddening thoughts while stuck in traffic?”

1. Pahingi po ng barya.

Is it out of volunteerism?

I don’t know. But each time a disaster would strike, mostly young and half-naked men, would be out there, taking control of the traffic situation. They are our usual “kuya” or “boy” that one could just wave at and they would come running, ready to answer your query.

“Is it flooded there?” our driver asked.

“Yes, up to here,” one of the boys answered, pointing to his waist.

The two then discussed the best way to get out of Manila’s waterworld in España as if they were long lost friends, even exchanging a joke or two.

Then, just when the driver was about to roll up the window, the boy blurted out, “Kuya, pahingi po ng barya.”

2. Dito na lang tayo matulog.

I have been on the road for more than two hours but was still nowhere near our house. I could hardly feel my rearside and my legs seemed paralyzed.

Our driver then proudly said that the heavy traffic goes only as far as Morayta in España. He then blamed light vehicles for braving the flooded streets only to chicken out later when they realize that they could not handle it.

But one passenger countered him, saying that there is still traffic in Morayta.

“Matulog na lang tayo dito,” our driver quipped.

3. Tataba ang bangus dito.

While wading through the flood, our driver suggested that Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada should just turn Sampaloc district into a fish pond.

The flood water, after all, never goes away.

4. Gago, ‘wag mo ako lokohin. Pagod na ako.

Yes, when we are pushed to the wall, we all have violent tendencies.

Over the phone, one of the passengers, a woman, said, “Gago, ‘wag mo ako lokohin. Pagod na ako.”

Apparently feeling lost, she was asking a friend for directions since our driver diverted from the usual route and explored the inner, minor roads as he zigzaged his way to avoid flood and traffic.

5. Naawa lang ako, ibababa ko sana kayo sa España.

This was our driver’s statement at the end of our trip. I’m sure all of his passengers wanted to give him a hug.

Though he eventually decided to cut his trip short, he made sure that we will

get off in a safe, flood-free area.

My usual one-hour trip lasted four hours. I am even luckier compared to those who had to wade through the flood or wait for hours to get a ride on a jeepney or bus.

And as much as I want to regret what I had to go through, I won’t. Tonight – riding a packed public vehicle with passengers of different temperaments but were all grateful for reaching Manila dry and in one piece albeit hours late, and discussing issues with a driver with a can-do attitude — I learned more of how it is to be the government’s “boss.” (http://bulatlat.com)

Exporters recommend to explore halal production for BIMP-EAGA Arnuco added that the Freeport is positioning itself to be the gateway to BIMPEAGA, a growth region of over 57 million consumers where Islam is a dominant religion and halal-processed foods and goods are in high demand.

In a recent presentation in Makati City, he said the Zambozone is making enhancements to the site and providing attractive incentives as it gears up to become a key halal manufacturing hub in the area.

The ecozone is comprised of three development sites with a total land area of

16,120 hectares. These are the 1st Industrial Park (64 hectares), the 2nd Industrial Park (664 hectares), and their latest development project the Zamboecozone Highlands (15,391 hectares).

The executive said 100 hectares of land at the 2nd Industrial Park have been reserved and will be developed as a dedicated halalprocessing area.

He clarified that halal production is not just about food products, but involves other products and services as well, including pharmaceuticals, ingredients and additives, cosmetics, animal

feeds, drugs and vaccines, Islamic finance, and logistics.

Moreover, he said, “the potential of halal products and services is not only limited to Muslim consumers but also gaining increasing acceptance among non-Muslims, as consumers normally perceive halal products as having undergone stringent inspection and standard control in terms of ingredients used, strict safety and hygiene specifications and sanitation procedures.”

The ecozone chief continued that the Freeport can be a base for exporters “to serve the growing global

consumer demands for halal products, services, and solutions” as well as “capitalize on its competitive advantages to promote halal industries as the emerging engine of growth.”

To attract companies to the ecozone, Arnuco said the agency is offering a slew of fiscal incentives that include tax- and duty-free importation of goods, 5% tax rate from gross income earned, and income tax holiday of six years for pioneer industries, four years for non-pioneer industries, and three years for other industries.

Non-fiscal perks include

lower-than-market lease and rental rates, 50 years’ guaranteed lease period renewable for another 25 years, and 100% foreign ownership of enterprises.

The economic zone can “provide the needs of investors and businesses, link them with the most integrated supply chain solutions while maintaining the most conducive investment environment,” he continued.

While the ecozone’s current market is domestic, “with the ASEAN integration, markets will be opened and crossborder trade will increase,” he said. (PHILEXPORT)

Before, he said that some of the farmers travel as far as Iligan City just to dry their rice produce. “Aside from transportation cost,

the hauling cost of 20 pesos per sack would add up to their burden,” he said.

Lala has 500 hectares of land for rice production with 181 farmers who used to make do with only two solar dryers and two warehouses for storage owned by private traders.

“The solar dryer really helped the farmers a lot because aside from drying their produce they can now also command the right price for their rice,” Baroy said.

The rice could also be stocked safely in the storage facility before it is sold, he added.

“Since we can now dictate the price, our income has really increased. Before, we were at the mercy of the

trader,” said Enterina.

He encourage d t he farmers to contribute to the project’s sustainability by drying their produce in the cooperative’s facilities.

Another CFAD subproject in Lala was also turned over to another cooperative, the Lanipao Lala Livelihood Farmers Association (LANLALIFA) based in the brgy.

Lanipao, which also availed of the same postharvest facilities.

Bankers and investors often have few investment experiences and references to realistically assess the risks which are related to, for example, project design or technology choices.

The training included hands-on experiences in assessing non-financial and technical risks from a banker’s perspective. Participants were provided with a practical checklist for risk assessment which they can apply for their future investment decisions.

hree Filipinos were recently nabbed by the Philippine National Police (PNP) for attempting to subscribe to mobile postpaid plans of Smart and Sun Cellular using falsified documents.

Arrested during separate entrapment operations led by the PNP, and Smart and Sun officials, were Ader del

Rosario y Deniega alias Paul Ducusin Valera, Julie Rose de Ocampo y Maningat alias “Maria Angelica Merres”, and Michael Fiere y Enfantado alias “Marc Anthony Alcones,” “Allan Orpresio.”

Del Rosario was apprehended at the Smart Store in SM Manila, while de Ocampo and Fiere were accosted at the Sun Cellular

Shop in Shangri-La Edsa Plaza Mall, after the suspects’ fraudulent activities, which included the use of bogus IDs and registration documents.

Police have recommended the filing of charges against the three individuals for swindling using fictitious name and concealing true name and falsification

of public documents. The three are now detained as the filing of criminal charges is ongoing.

As part of its ongoing campaign to address telco scams, officials of Smart and Sun Cellular continue to work closely with the PNP for the identification and entrapment of fraudsters and other unscrupulous

individuals.

These measures complement the organizations’ sustained efforts to protect mobile subscribers, which involve a massive information campaign on how users can detect and prevent text and pasaload scams.

Both companies have also recently introduced security features to their

mobile load services to deter ‘pasaload’ scammers, who mislead subscribers into transferring load credits to them by way of bogus promos or discounts. Under the new system, Smart and Sun Cellular subscribers are required to confirm “pasaload” requests to ensure they are aware of such transactions.

I N S P I R AT I O NA L speaker Francis Kong brought his trademark “tap the person to your right” and brought the house down at the jampacked N Hotel hall last Friday, October 3.

It was the idea of the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) – Cagayan de Oro chapter led by president Wilma Magdale to bring Kong to Cagayan de Oro so he could impart the lessons that he has acquired in his lifelong quest to maximize the wholeness and poten-

tials of Filipinos, either individuals or organizations.

The 250 persons who attended Francis’s Maximizing Productivity are PMAP members who are mostly HR leaders and personnel in their respective companies. Many of them come from bigwig companies such as Steag, Primer Group, COC-Phinma, DATS Technical School, Watsons and all the rest of the A-list firms in CDO and nearby places.

Of Eid and the youth in CDO BECAUSE Eid al-Adha falls uniquely on a Saturday this year, the celebration here in the Philippines has been extended to a total of three days with President Aquino declaring today, October 6 and a Monday, an official public holiday. At the privacy of their own homes, Muslims can extend the celebration for one more day because tradition dictates that it is supposed to be celebrated for four days.

The celebration was started with Sunnah salat with each celebrant bringing his and her own prayer mat. It started early at 7:20 a.m. and by 7:30 a.m., an imam delivered his khutba for the occasion. An early Christmas in Tignapoloan

YOU know how the Christmas spirit always makes us all mushy, generous and grateful for all the blessings we have in our lifetime?

With the start of Christmas songs playing in the air, Christmas decors hanging by shopping windows - never missing out on the ever glistening trinkets and colorful lights of the Christmas trees on display - a group of friends have decided to share their blessings last September 16, 2014 to the elderly at Barangay Tinagpoloan, Cagayan de Oro City.

It was a day filled with joyful laughs, excited faces and genuine emotions as the host (Manuel Tan) captured the lolos’ and lolas’ hearts with his charismatic sense of humor, where the program started with lunch being served buffet style followed by a round of raffle draws, dance numbers by the lolos and

lolas and the much awaited games only for the lolos and lolas - where teamwork, camaraderie and even the signs of their years all worked out together to bring out the best in each of them.

The group of friends came together under the lead of Sheila Rojas and Hon. Jay Pascual with the efforts of the rest of the group to be able to share in their Christmas in September program which started last year. This has been a shared endeavor in understanding the needs of the elderly in the area to be able to appropriately give a little of what they have and be able to make those in the rural areas experience a taste of the urban feast.

Medicines were given out to those in need and home appliances were also raffled out to all the 120 elderly of the barangay- even

the oldest lolo (Antonio Garina) at 96 years old was embraced with pure gratitude as he received his own package of goodies from the group.

The hustle and bustle of the Urban Life does have its ups and downs and can even be toxic at times but when we open our hearts to the simplicity of others and appreciate our Life’s blessings, it opens our eyes to make us do far more than what we expect.

Christmas is just around the corner, well 95 days to be exact, what’s great is we can start today and share the spirit. Happy merry sharing!
