Assistance for SME

THE Department of Science and Technology in Region 10(DOST-10) is informing all small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to avail themselves of financial assistance through Set-Up or Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program. Cecilia A. Aca-ac, provincial science and technology director in Misamis Oriental, said the Program is a nationwide strategy encouraging and assisting SMEs to adopt technology innovations to improve their operations that will boost their productivity and competitiveness. At present, it assists 10 priority sectors including Food, Furniture, GDH (Gifts, Decors and Houseware), Marine and Aquatic Resources, Agriculture / Horticulture, Metals and Engineering, Health Products and Services / Pharmaceutical, ICT/ Electronics, Packaging, Renewable Energy (energy from wind, biomass, solar, micro hydro, biofuel and marine current).

Villars to push for anti no exam bill FORMER Las Pinas Rep. Cynthia Villar on has vowed to pursue the proposed measure filed by her husband, outgoing Senator Manny Villar, which prohibits colleges and universities from preventing students to take examinations over unpaid tuition and other school fees. The former congress-

woman, who is running for senator under the Nacionalista Party-Team PNoy, said this will among her priorities in case she wins a senate seat in the coming May elections. Sen. Villar belongs to the so-called “graduating senators” whose term of office ends in June 2013. Sometimes in October

HILE the Department of Energy is still identifying measures that would address Mindanao’s power crisis, a top government official has expressed confidence that the problem besetting the island will soon be minimal if not totally eradicated. Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Secretary Luwalhati Antonino said three oil-fired generators will be commissioned by the government to fill in the vacuum provided by the repair and rehabilitation of Agus hydro power plants in Lanao and Bukidnon provinces. Among the immediate solutions to the Mindanao power problem, Antonino said, is the immediate operations of the Iligan diesel power plant and two other power plants. POWER/PAGE 7
