Tech-voc trainers shortage looms By MARK FRANCISCO Staff Writer
MISAMIS Oriental will have a shortage of technical and vocational trainers next year. Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (Tesda) provincial director Leo Velez has expressed this concern since an estimated 1,000 of the 1,500 trainers in Misamis Oriental would have their licenses expired next year. Velez said that many of these trainers can no longer renew their licenses because of the requirement mandated by law that they must undergo three years of experience in the industry they are specializing before they will be accredited again. Velez said that although most of the trainers in technical and vocational educational institutions in Misamis Oriental have minimal industry experience, they have spent years in the academe honing students to become successful technical and vocational graduates and landing them jobs here and abroad. trainers/PAGE 9
