HILE still addressing hurdles on the dispatch protocol, the Philippine Electricity Market Corporation (PEMC) is set to launch today (Sept. 20) the long-anticipated Interim Mindanao Electricity Market (IMEM) which may soak up un-contracted capacities that could help shore up supply in the energy-scrimping grid.
The design of t he Mindanao electricity market will be slightly modified because the distribution utilities (DUs) will be the one s fore c a s t i n g t he i r demand; and which will then be telling the market the volume they need. Caraga’s 2012 growth posts 10.6% in 2012 By PAT SAMONTE
BUTUAN City -- Caraga Region has topped its pr ior yea r’s economic performance in terms of growth rates by registering 10.6 percent in 2012. In a statement, Depa r t ment of Tr ade and Industry in Caraga Regional Director Brielgo Pagaran announced that Region 13’s 10.6 percent growth was surpassed only by Region 9’s 12.4 percent growth rate. Caraga’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) or the total volume of economic production not only posted increasing amounts but also increasing growth rates for the past three years. Pagaran disclosed that from P98.23 billion in 2010 and P108.44 billion in 2011, Caraga’s GRDP grew to P122.46 billion in 2012. For the period 20102011, Caraga’s 8.5 percent growth rate was number
one beating the other 16 regions and way above the national average of only 3.6 percent, he said. Pagaran said the biggest contributor to the region’s GRDP is the service sector and in terms of specific sources for 2012, the top three contributors included agriculture and forestry (21.4 percent), transport, storage and communication (15.9 percent) and mining Caraga/PAGE B11
Normin stakeholders draft strategies for biodiversity
River dike THE first phase of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) river dike project will take off soon here. This was revealed by the representatives of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) during the recent joint committees on finance, on tourism and on public works. The DPWH was among those invited by the joint c o m m i t te e s c h a i r e d by Councilors President D. Elipe, Lourdes Candy Darimbang and Alden Bacal, respectively, to shed light on projects being implemented in the city. DPWH engineers said the Notice of Award was given last August 28. The needed equipment and materials are already in place at the project site.

The workshop in consonance w it h t he Philippines’s involvement in the Convention on Biological Diversity, in 2010 in Nagoya, Japan, which adopted a 10 year strategic plan, and outlined achievable targets better known as the Aichi Biodiversity Targets.
