Briefly Unusual prices THE Department of Energy (DoE) has asked oil companies operating in Mindanao to explain reports of “unusual price reductions” in gasoline products, saying the movements are in possible breach of provisions under the law.

“Based on the monitoring of the DoE-Mindanao Field Office (MFO), the price adjustment of the oil companies in Mindanao from the period of Aug. 30 to Sept. 6, 2016 was a huge P3.00 rollback, hence attracting the attention of the agency,” the DoE said in a statement on Thursday.

On Aug. 30, oil companies imposed a 50-centavo price rollback for gasoline, while keeping the price unchanged on Sept. 30. Retailers of petroleum products adjust prices weekly, usually on a Tuesday.

‘Good neighbors’ rally behind ARMM budget M A R AW I C i t y - Congressmen’s support for the 2017 regional budget of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) was apparent during the plenar y hearing in the House of Representatives on September 28, 2016.

Zamboanga City District Representative Celso Lobregat noted that some concerns were raised during the pre-plenary hearing, but the ARMM leadership was already able to respond sufficiently to the said concerns.

‘ASEAN Showcase 2016’ forum set to unfold opportunities

U T UA N City -- A group of professors, school administrators, textbook authors, le cturers and trainers, in partnership with Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP), have collaborated with various stakeholders and participants in the ASEAN Economic Integration to launch a forum dubbed “ASEAN Showcase: A Basket of Opportunities” which will be held on October 8, 2016 at the Diosdado Macapagal Hall, Landbank Plaza in Malate, Manila.

This for um aims to keep the people abreast with the ASEAN Economic Integration, and to explore

the vast opportunities in it.

Various topics and issues will be discussed by experienced speakers in the fields of academe, government and business, and at the same time present the impact of the ASEAN Economic Integration on these sectors.

“Through this forum, more Filipinos could be made aware of the possibilities, challenges and opportunities in the ASEAN community,” said Melody Grace Llona, event coordinator of Core Learning Solutions Asia Corp.

Resort, manufacturer pick AboitizPower’s Cleanergy

WO companies in Cebu recently chose AboitizPower’s renewable energy to power their continued growth.

JPark Island Resort and Waterpark and NKC (Nakanishi Metal Works Co. Ltd), both operating in Mactan, Cebu, signed power supply contracts with Aboitiz Power Corporation under the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) regime.

“We chose renewable energy because we want to help protect the environment,” said JPark Island Resort president Justin Uy. He said that JPark aims to strengthen its reputation as an

environment-friendly and responsible tourist destination and chose AboitizPower based on trust.

JPark chose AboitizPower to be its sole provider of electricity for two years. The resort’s total monthly demand is 2.5 megawatts (MW), which will be taken mainly from the TiwiMakban geothermal plants in Albay and Batangas.

NKC, manufacturer of bearings, hardware supplies, conveyor and other industrial equipment, also chose Cleanergy, AboitizPower’s brand of renewable energy.

NKC, needs 2.3MW a month to power its operations within the Mactan Economic

Zone 2 in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) requires contestable customers—those with average monthly usage of 1 MW and up—to source power from retail electricity suppliers starting Dec. 26 this year under the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) regime. Starting June 26, 2017, the threshold is set to drop to 750 kwh, allowing more establishments to benefit from competition among power producers that will vie over prices and services.

Globe launches free eLibrary for public school students Over a thousand educational e-books appropriate for K-12 learning will be made available to over 15 million public elementary and high school students and some 500,000 public school teachers nationwide beginning September 30 as part of the Global Filipino School (GFS) program of leading telecommunications company Globe Telecom.

The GFS Library launch coincides with the National Teachers Day celebration of the Department of Education (DepEd) at Ateneo de Manila University in Davao City where Globe is one of the participants.

“With the expansion of the Global Filipino Schools Program and awareness of the GFS Library around the country, public schools can more effectively make use of reading resources and promote digital learning to

more students and teachers nationwide, particularly in schools where access to quality books is limited and usage of technology for learning is not maximized,” said Fernando Esguerra, Globe Director for Citizenship.

GFSLibrar y.com is a web-based platform that provides free and quick access to digital story books for children and young adults as well as textbooks on core subjects such as Math, Science, English, Filipino, Music, Arts, among others.

The ebooks may be opened via their desktop, laptop or mobile device using any basic ebook reader.

The website is a component of the GFS program, a longterm Globe educational initiative that seeks to transform public schools into centers of Information and Communications Technology elibrary/PAGE 7

The statement was not only the president’s sentiment but a universal outcry. As human beings, we are accustomed to v i ol e n c e l i ke w h at h a s been done to the women and children in Syria who do not want sex with the ISIS but forced and are murdered. We seem to eat the staple of frequent news h i g h l i g ht i ng OF W ’s or workers abused and parents or grandparents killed by their drug-challenged kin.

I am saying my faith is still honoured and it will be for my advantage vis-a-vis perpetrators of injustice.

Why would I live like there is no God if I know I have all the advantage if I live by faith and not by the standards of oppressors?

Though oppressors make the antics to silence those who speak out against injustice, they cannot deter those who care about it even if they make excuses like saying the one who complains does not forgive just to silence their cry.

Are we running out of wits against these antics?

My concept ab out injustice is not meant to deter Duterte from doing what is right to penalize evildoers for it is morally his responsibility (Romans 13:4) and we cannot just a l low cr imina ls to commit more injustices (I Thessalonians 4:6). If Duterte does what is right as the leader called for this hour, he is God’s minister not less a man of God than any relig ious le ader. It seems relinquishing his

lucell larawan ideals of putting order to the chaotic society is too risky. He must not bow down to mere persuasions which does not guarantee with 100 percent certainty that they are clearly what God wants (even the devil can quote Scriptures during the temptation of Christ).

Back to the question “Where is God?” my answer is simple: in the hearts of those who trust him amid injustices and in the hands and feet of those who mind about justice for the poor and oppressed (Proverbs 29: 7). Thus, I see God in president Duterte though he may ask where He is.

The president should not be surprised if he discovers God is in Him and with him in fulfilling heaven’s agenda.

What Language Do You Speak?

Think a minute…A woman was telling her husband that she wanted him to tell her more often that he loved her.

Her surprised husband said: “Tell you what? Woman, when I married you 17 years ago I told you ‘I love you’. If I change my mind, I’ll let you know!”

They say that there are 5 languages of love. And the reason many marriages are not happy is that husbands and wives speak different languages to express and show their love. The problem is we simply haven’t learned each other’s love language.

For example, have you ever wished your wife or husband would do something special that would mean a lot to you, but instead they did something else that they like, so you felt hurt and disappointed? You see, it could be that neither you nor your mate has learned each other’s love language.

Since we each are different, whatever makes you really happy may not be the same for your wife or husband.

Here are the 5 main love languages people use to show love. First, is serving and doing things for your spouse—like cooking a meal, cleaning house, helping with the kids, or cutting

The bad news is the peso has considerably weakened in recent days.

As of September 29, the peso was trading in the neighborhood of P48.46 to the dollar. This means we now have to pay more for our imports. With the rise in cost of imported crude, we can expect an equivalent increase in our electric bills in the near ter m. The Phi lippines will also have to pay more for our maturing dollar obligations.

But it is good news for exporters who are now jumping with joy. They will be getting more pesos for every dollar’s worth of exports. Even O verseas Filipinos are ecstatic. The dollars they send home will buy more food and pay for more needs of their families in the Philippines.

A Honolulu-based f riend just saved a fe w hundred thousand pesos for a recently-purchased condo unit which he intends to use as a retirement home.

We can expect similar sales to be brisk in the coming days.

The bad news is that foreign investors are liquidating their equity investments in the Philippines, causing the Philippine Stock Exchange index to tumble.

The good news is t h e s i t u at i o n p rov i d e s an opportunity for risk takers. Astute risk takers would buy when everyone is selling, hoping to make a

huge profit later by selling when everyone is buying.

But w h at i s c au s i ng these current volatilities?

Critics of this administration are quick to pin the blame on President Rody Duterte’s “colorful r h e t or i c s” w h i c h h a s reportedly riled investors.

But Governor Amando M. Tetangco, Jr., who has been voted for 8 consecutive years as among the best central bank governors in the world, has a more sober explanation.

For one, the impending increas e in the Federal Reserve interest rate has made t he dol lar a ver y a t t r a c t i v e i nv e s t m e n t , drawing back to the US the dollars invested overseas.

Tetangco also attributed the increased strength of the dollar to the current huge corporate demand for dollars.

As for the pullback from equities, Bangko Sentral Deputy Governor Diwa Guinigundo believes that the money is still in the Philippines. They are just t e mp o r a r i l y p a r k e d i n other investment vehicles.

She could also be f unny as shown by her humorous books (eg., Stupid Is Forever) which have become local bestsellers.

Whatever you think of Miriam, whether you love her or hate her, she will forever be etched in the national consciousness.

Having served Presidents C or y Aqui no and Er ap Estrada, Diokno now joins President Duterte “when people’s expectations of more jobs, less poverty and more inclusive growth – have never been so high.”

Like Zubiri and Recto, this writer believes that Diokno has got what it takes to perform one of the most difficult jobs in the cabinet.

Bangko Sentral exec highlights stakeholders’ responsibility in ensuring consumer protection

NCREASING consumer protection is a shared responsibility not just by regulators but all stakeholders, a central bank official said.

In a briefing after the opening ceremony for the 2016 Consumer Welfare Month at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Frida, BSP Assistant Governor Johnny Noe E. Ravalo said banks were given a threeyear period to ensure that automated teller machine (ATM) cards were EMVready.

EMV, which stands for Europay, MasterCard and Visa, is a global standard for inter-operation of integrated circuit cards capable of authenticating point-ofsale transactions.

To d ate, most ATM cards are still equipped with magnetic stripes where owner’s data are stored.

This technology is less secured than EMV, thus,

DBP grants loan for farm project STATE-RUN Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) has granted a P352-million term loan to Birdsteel Farm -- one of the top contract growers in the country -- for its farm expansion project.

In a statement, DBP said once completed and operational, the expansion project will increase the present broiler production capacity of Birdsteel Farm from 1.1 million birds per grow to 1.6 million birds per grow.

“The loan is in line with DBP’s thrust to support projects that contribute to food security, initiate innovations in the use of modern technology, and promote environmental safeguards in their operations,” the state-run bank said.

DBP noted that total financial assistance granted to this modern poultry farm project now amounts to P635million, adding that through its loans from the state-lender, the farm was able to increase production from an original bird capacity of 350,000 in 2011, to 550,000 in 2013, and to 1.1 million in 2015. “ T h r o u g h D B P ’s assistance, Birdsteel Farm has expanded its facilities with the construction of modern, autoclimate controlled poultry buildings under the latest tunnel ventilation system.

This has led to significant economic, environmental and social impact in the contract-growing community not only in Region VII but in dbp/PAGE 6

the central bank wants a full shift to the latter by January 1, 2017.

Data from EMVCo., the consortium that currently manages the standard, show that 35.8 percent of global transactions were done using EMV-equipped cards as of 2015.

The statistics came from American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard, Union-Pay, and Visa, which has equal share in EMVCo. Ravalo also said there was a need for retailers to have point-of-sale (POS) machines that could cater

to EMV-equipped cards to ensure that they could service their clients properly. ” T h i s i s n ot ju s t a local concern but a global concern,” he said, disclosing that the Philippines is not left behind and is actually the head of the ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection, represented by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

He said Philippine banks need to be compliant to the EMV technology since Filipinos love to travel, not just within the country but abroad as well.

Meanwhile, Ravalo said the central bank received about 33,000 consumer complaints on the average and the number has risen in recent years.

He said the rise in the nu mb e r of c ompl ai nt s did not indicate that the problems were getting worst but instead showed that consumers were becoming

more intelligent and educated.

Most of these complaints are related to unauthorized withdrawal of funds, even if the complainants’ ATMs are still with them.

R avalo said some of these complainants involved victims of card skimming, or the scam that uses a device called skimmer, which scans ATMs’ magnetic stripe to reveal the card’s personal identification number (PIN) code.

A skimming device is placed right outside the slot where ATM users put their cards in.

Unsuspecting ATM users won’t be able to detect that a skimming device is placed on the ATM machine because it looks like a part of the machine.

Tetangco said strong demand by the BPO sector for office spaces and people’s

demand for housing units near their work places continued to buoy the real estate sector.

“S o all of these put together we can say that the real estate sector is in a good position at this point,” he said.

The central bank chief said banks’ exposure to the real estate sector remains healthy because financial institutions remain prudent in their lending to the sector.

He also said property developers have changed their business models compared during the Asian financial crisis in 1997 to 1998.

“Now they build based on demand whereas then they will build all towers that are part of the development and

try to sell the units on each of the towers,” he said.

“So it is clear that the business model now is demand-driven and I think that makes for a healthier real estate sector,” he said.

In a statement, the grid operator said an renewable energy integration standards have been set up to allow the smooth access for renewable energy plants. It has also prop os ed the “variable renewable energy content” in the Philippine Grid Code, which it said was approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

NGCP also said it had done a system impact study to assess the best possible configuration and grid entry points for clean energ y projects.

NGCP clarified that a Grid Impact Study (GIS) is necessary to determine whether an RE plant will integrate smoothly into the current system, or if improvements or adjustments to grid are necessary.

It is critical that a GIS be conducted first so that RE developments are synchronize d wit h our grid improvement projects.

This will ensure that all RE capacities are fullydispatched and utilized by end-consumers, NGCP said.

NGCP is a corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the country’s power grid.

It transmits high-voltage electricity through “power superhighways” that include the interconnected system of transmission lines, towers, substations, and related assets. Both parties had agreed during the first round of formal peace talks in Oslo, Norway last month that the Reciprocal Working Committees on the CASER “will endeavor to complete their work within six months from August” or by February 2017.

The second round of talks is on 6 to 10, also in Oslo.

Trinidad said the Lumad, refering to the ethnolinguistic groups in Mindanao, have complained of harassment by armed groups.

Lawyer Antonio Arellano, also a GRP peace panel member said that as far as the IP are concerned the government is guided by t he 1987 C onst itut ion, particularly Article XII, Section 5 which mandates that the State “shall protect the rights of indigenous cultural communities to their ancestral lands to ensure their economic, social and cultural well being.”

Arellano also cited the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA) of 1997 which recognizes the IP’s rights to their ancestral lands.

He said the government i s aw a re o f t h e “s l ow implementation of the law (IPRA)” but recognizes at the same time that it “could provide the IP chances to participate in national development.”

He, however, acknowledged that there may be provisions of IPRA that need to be amended.

Kerlan Fanagel, chair of the PASAKA Confederation of Lumad Organizations in Southern Mindanao, said the CASER should ensure their collective rights to their ancestral lands and self-determination.

He pushed for the strict i mpl e me nt at i on of t he Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL) to protect the Lumad from abuses arising from the armed conflict between government and the New People’s Army.

XU Ateneo Diplomatic Corps bags Outstanding UNESCO Club Award Xavier University Ateneo Diplomatic Corps, a UNESCO-accredited student organization in the Philippines, received two recognitions during the 2016 International Assembly of Youth held at Cebu Normal University from September 20 to 23.

ADC bagged the 2016 Outstanding UNESCO Club Award for its consolidated efforts from the previous administration (SY 20152016) up to the present.

The award is given annually to ten best performing member clubs of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. ADC ranked sixth in the overall ranking, the only awardee from Region

10 and one of the two UNESCO clubs from Mindanao.

In addition, UNESCO conferred a “Certificate of Good Standing” to ADC for continuously initiating student-led activities in consonance with the ideals and principles of the said UN agency.

ADC has underscored its strong commitment in frontlining the essence of education, science and technology, and culture in their projects at the grassroots level.

Argentina opens doors to Philippines’ agri products

Buenos Aires - Argentina, a country with 40 million people and over 50 million cattle, has expressed interest in opening up its market for several agricultural and fisheries products from the Philippines, including canned tuna, coco sugar, organic rice and even bananas.

In a recent meeting, Jorge Buryaile, Minister of Agroindustry of Argentina, said his country would be interested to explore the prospects of importing agricultural products from the Philippines, including bananas of different varieties.

Argentina consumes 450,000 metric tons of cavendish bananas every year, 90 percent of the supply coming from Ecuador.

“If it is possible for you to ship your bananas to

Argentina, this countr y would be a big market,” Buryaile said even as he expressed interest on the information I gave him that frozen microwavable Saba bananas, now a hit in the US, and other banana varieties are available.

The only concern expressed was the length of the voyage of the banana container ships from Mindanao to Argentina which is estimated to take about 30 days.

Buryaile also said his countr y was interested in imp or t ing f rom t he Philippines canned tuna, semi-processed fish products, canned tropical fruits like pineapple and papaya, co conut chips, banana chips and organic rice produced in the Cordilleras

and North Cotabato.

Argentina is currently one of the major sources of fruits like apple and grapes, soybean cake, animal feeds and machineries in heavy volume while the Philippines is exporting carageenan, coconut oil, desiccated coconut and minor items.

The balance of trade, however, is tilted heavily in favour of Argentina even as they seek the approval of their request to export beef and cattle embryo to the Philippines.

In my call on Minister B u r y a i l e y e s t e r d a y, accompanied by Philippine Ambassador to Argentina Amelita Aquino, Asst. Sec. Enrico Garzon, executive asst. Bong Piñol and agric ulture attache Joy Javelosa, the Argentinian official said he would like to visit the Philippines early next year to firm up the trade agreements.

Argentina is also looking forward to export to the Philippines grains silo bags, mobile and stationary grains dryers and equipment for the grains silo bags operation.

Buryaile said he would like to travel to the Philippines in time with the first shipment

of beef from Argentina.

Among the agreements discussed during our meeting yesterday were: 1. Export by Argentina of beef, farm machineries, grains silo bags and animal feed materials, including frozen embryos of BrahmanAngus for meat and a cross of Holstein and Gyr dairy cattle called Girolando.

2. Export by the Philippines of dried fruits, canned or packed mixed tropical fruits, canned tuna, vacuum-packed Bangus, additional volume of carageenan, coconut chips, coconut sugar, coconut water and cavendish bananas, including frozen Saba.

Ambassador Aquino said that the meeting between me and Minister Buryaile was the first high level engagement of Cabinet officials of the two countries and she expressed optimism that both countries would be able to increase their trade volume.

FAO supports Philippines in strengthening climate change adaptation in agriculture MANILA – In a bid to intensify its efforts to cushion the agriculture sector from climate change impacts, the Philippines has joined a multi-country initiative that seeks to strengthen the capacities of governments to plan, fund and operationalize climate response strategies.

The “Integrating Agriculture in National Adaptation Plans (NAP-

Ag) programme,” which is supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), focuses on strategic climate risk management. It also aims to accelerate the uptake of medium- and long-term risk reduction practices across the policy level, the agriculture industry and down to farming and fishing communities.

longer a distant threat. The strong typhoons and droughts we have experienced in recent years have given us a preview of the severe implications it will continue to have on the agriculture sector and the related issues of national interest such as food security, economic growth and the eradication of rural poverty,” said FAO Representative in the Philippines José Luis

Investing in resilience “How well the agriculture sector performs in terms of contributing to the economy will be strongly linked to the amount of investment put into national climate change adaptation,” said Alicia Ilaga, Director of the Department of Agriculture (DA) Systemswide Climate Change Office, w h i ch i mpl e me nt s t he Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture.

Through NAP-Ag, FAO has started working with DA, the Climate Change Commission and the Department of Science and Technolog y’s Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration. The early stages of the programme w i l l i nv o l v e t e c h n i c a l assistance in re-evaluating and recalibrating current agricultural development strategies and budgeting processes with the objective of minimizing exposure to and losses from climate change risks. Efforts to map vulnerability to food insecurity will likewise be expanded, in addition to promoting risk-reduction mechanisms in agricultural and coastal communities.

As part of the initiative, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will also provide policy guidance in mainstreaming climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction and management in the Philippines’ Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Plan.

“We acknowledge that implementing climate adaptation measures, especially those that will entail systemic changes, may require external support in addition to what our national budget can cover. We will also explore such options under the NAP-Ag programme.

This includes instruments within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, specifically those under the ‘Common but Differentiated Responsibility,’ which mandates developed nations to assist developing countries through the Global Environmental Facility and, recently, through the Green Climate Fund,” Ilaga added.

20 percent of the economic impact caused by climaterelated disasters. Moreover, the Philippines ranks third in the 2015 World Risk Index of the United Nations University for Environment and Human Security, which evaluates the risk of 171 countries to natural hazards.

In spite of being one of the most disaster-prone countries, the Philippines remains to be a leading example in building institutional capacities for managing and reducing risks of natural hazards and climate change. NAP-Ag will build on the results of several resilience projects jointly implemented

by FAO and DA since 2009, including climate change adaptation capacity-building in the Cordilleras under the Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund; the Japan-funded analysis and mapping of impacts under climate change for adaptation and food security; climate risk management strengthening in the Bicol Region under a technical cooperation arrangement between FAO and the Government; and more recently, the formulation of a National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Strategy under FAO/PAGE B7

The presentation was followed by a discourse wherein attendees actively participated and

shared their insights as to how this framework can be effectively utilized. They cited the cyber attacks their organizations experience and what they have been doing overcome such threats.

The attendees agreed that enterprises and government agencies alike lack in policies and regulations that determine the best actions to take during an occurrence of an attack, be it intentional or unintentional. In order to resolve this, security should be everywhere, protecting every aspect of the business from any type of threat activities.

For September 23, there were three activities that were being held. First was the essay writing with Nezil Oco in charge followed by Sudoku Challenge with Doryel Jay Sayongan in charge. There were two categories for quiz bee. The first category was

for the first through third graders while the second category was for fourth to sixth graders. The one in charge for Category A was Warlie Abejuela while the one in charge for Category B was yours truly. The winner for essay writing was May Demms Zusette Casinabe.

megawatts (MW) or 9.71% of the total installed capacity, with Luzon at 667.66MW (6.86%), Visayas at 461MW (24.37%), and Mindanao at 61MW (4.04%), of the installed generation capacity in each grid. The figures are expected to increase as the Department of Energy targets to reach 30% RE installed capacity in the generation mix by 2030.

To allow smooth access for RE plants to the grid, N G C P h a s e s t abl i s h e d RE integration standards and proposed the Variable Renewable Energy content in the Philippine Grid Code, which has been approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC). The company also conducted System Impact Study (SIS) to assess the best possible configuration and grid entry points for RE projects.

“Because of the i nt e r m itt e nt n atu re of some renewable energ y sources, particularly solar and wind, balancing the

system’s supply and demand becomes challenging. We took the initiative to set integration standards to avoid compromising the integrity of the grid,” the company said in a statement.

NGCP is also improving its forecast system for RE plants to anticipate possible changes in the individual plant’s power production which mayimpact the grid.

“NGCP is supportive of the government’s policy of increasing RE installed c a p a c i t y. D e s p i t e t h e challenges it brings to the management of the grid, NGCP sees this as a step closer towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources for the country,” the company said.

NGCP clarified that a Grid Impact Study (GIS) is necessary to determine whether an RE plant will integrate smoothly into the current system, or i f i mprove me nt s or adjustments to grid are necessary.

It is critical that a GIS be conducted first so that RE developments are sy nchronize d w it h our grid improvement projects.

This will ensure that all RE capacities are fullydispatched and utilized by end-consumers, NGCP said.

It transmits high-voltage electricity through “power superhighways” that include the interconnected system of transmission lines, towers, substations, and related assets. (BPISFUFAI) and Tuno Upland Farmers Association, Inc. (TUFAI), as partners in the administration of the lands. Malaybalay City gov’t celebrates 116th CSC anniv, pays tribute to retirees MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon — As part of the lined-up activities for the month-long celebration of 116th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary, Malaybalay City gave honors to the 2016 retired employees of the city government.

Organized by the City Human Resource and Management Office (CHRMO), the event affords the retirees’ former colleagues and fellow servants the opportunity to be with them who had served the city with dedication and commitment until reaching the retirement age.

In his message, City Mayor Ignacio W. Zubiri encouraged the retirees to make the most of their years by doing things that will make them happy.

“Retirement is not an ending, it is a beginning. And I desire that you will always remain part of Malaybalay City Government family even if you are already ‘retired’ from service,” the mayor said.

The momentous Civil Service Month event was an apt occasion for the city government to honor the integrity and dedication endeavored by the 11
