The series of public c o n s u l t at i o n s a i m s t o promulgate a new policy on renewable energy (RE) utilization for off-grid areas, and for consumers in remote areas like islands, mountains and far-away villages.
The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) has repeatedly expressed alarm over how fossil fuel power plants now account for over half of Mindanao’s power mix, compared to previous decades when hydro-based renewable energy was the main source of power in the island. Sustainable mining SURIGAO City – “The province of Surigao del Norte is positioning the terrain as we prepare to replicate some of Australia’s best mining practices following the benchmarking of the team Capitol, to gather ideas, learnings and impressions respecting the extractive industry,” mentioned Surigao del Norte Vice Governor Arturo Carlos Egay, Jr., who ably represented Governor Sol Matugas during the 4th Caraga Mining Symposium and Safety Competition. Said competition was anchored on the theme, “Resilience Amidst Challenges Besetting the Caraga Mining Industry.” Egay further said that this avant-garde program was impelled by the solid commitment, unflinching passion and firm devotion of the provincial government to make sure that the five largescale mining companies and one processing plant operating in the province strictly and religiously observe and abide by responsible and sustainable mining standards, set by no less than the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), now under the auspices of Secretary Roy Cimatu.
