Briefly Import surges PHILIPPINE import payments jumped 6.9 percent in August 2013 posting a total amount of US$ 5.542 billion compared to last year’s same period import bill of US$ 5.184 billion. It also increased monthon-month basis from US$ .487 billion in July 2013, a percent higher. The National Statistic Office (NSO) said the growth in import payments was pushed by the increase in importing of seven out of 10 major commodity groups over the year. These commodity group gainers include Metalliferous Ores and Metal Scrap; Transport Equipment; Mineral Fuels, Lubricants and Related Materials; Telecommunication Equipment and Electrical Machinery; Plastics in Primary and Non-primary Forms; Iron and Steel; Industrial Machinery and Equipment.
ISO audit THE Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office X has completed on Friday, October 18, the first stage of the audit for its ISO (Organization for International Standardization) 9001:2008 certification. ISO 9001:2008 focuses on effective quality management systems on its processes in meeting customer satisfaction. The first stage of audit involves document review that consists of the different technical and administrative processes of the DOLE Regional Office. The move for ISO 9001:2008 certification is a directive of DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz to better serve the Department’s clients through timely and quality delivery of its programs and projects.

Fresh ventures perk up tuna industry Proposed Davao DAVAO City -- Several investments in the tuna business worth P240 million were recorded during the first half this year, according to a recent report submitted by the tuna industry cluster to consultants of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
