Asian Halal Center ZAMBOANGA Economic Zone (ZAMBOECOZONE) in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Local Government Units of Zamboanga City recently held the ground breaking ceremony of the Asian Halal Center, with the DTI Secretary Ramon M. Lopez as the guest of honor. The 100-hectare area aims to be the center of Halal industries in the Philippines and in the Brunei DarussalamIndonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) region. Halal is a Qur’anic term that means permitted, allowed or lawful. At present, Halal is used in relation to food and other consumer goods that have undergone certification as permissible for consumption and use by Muslims.

Local housing body THE proposal to create a Housing Department at Cagayan de Oro City Hall is being supported by the 18th City Council. This was discussed during the Legislative Forum held this week, which was attended by Acting Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy, Acting Vice Mayor Zaldy Ocon and city councilors. During the forum, Councilor Marivic Co-Pilar, chairperson of the Urban Poor and Housing and Human Settlement Committee of Quezon City Council gave a background on the institutionalization and its legal basis, sourcing of funds and strategies and City Urban Development Legislative Agenda of Quezon City.
