Livelihood THE UNITED Nations Human Settlements Programme has started a P44.2-million livelihood project for Marawi City residents affected by a terrorist attack in 2017. The Japan-funded project that will run for six months will complement a shelter project it is implementing and will benefit about 4,000 households, the UN agency said in a statement at the weekend. The project, which features agribusiness and enterprise development and training, will help reintegrate people displaced by the clash between Islamic State-linked terrorists and government troops, it said. The program will prioritize people from the 20 villages near Lanao Lake who could no longer return to their homes. — CQ Francisco

Coco fund SENATOR Cynthia Villar is confident that President Rodrigo R. Duterte would sign the re-filed Senate Bill 1233, or the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Act, and Senate Bill 1976, or the Strengthened Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA). Duterte vetoed the bill in February for lack of “safeguards” to prevent coco levy funds from being used unlawfully. In her speech during the opening of the 2019 Davao Agri Trade Expo (DATE) held here Thursday, Villar said she was hoping for its approval, noting that the President mentioned in his 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA) that the development of the country's coconut industry remains a priority.
