Infra projects THE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and the local government unit (LGU) of Gitagum and Manticao, in Misamis Oriental, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) implementing P3,905,000 worth of infrastructure projects to boost the economic lives of the farmer-beneficiaries. The projects for implementations are the road protection of barangay Cabalantian that costs P 2,970,000 in Manticao with LGU counterpart of P270,000; and the concreting of G. Pelaez farm-to-market road in Gitagum costing P935,000 with LGU counterpart of P85,000. Both projects are to be completed in fifty (50) working days. DAR Assistant Regional Director Eliasem Castillo said the projects were approved under the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting (GPB) process, a strategy in pursuing the Medium Development Goals of the government in reducing poverty as indicated in the 2011-2016 Philippine Development Plan.

Land distribution THE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently distributed 309 certificates of land ownership award (CLOA), covering 2,034.18 hectares of agricultural lands to 1,189 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon. Provincial agrarian reform program officer II (PARPO ll) Julio C. Celestiano, Jr. said the farmers are now new landowners, and like other fellow farmer-beneficiaries, are facing more challenging task of making their farms more productive. “These ARBs will play significant role in eradicating hunger and in reducing poverty in the countryside,” Celestiano said. He added that as the world celebrates the International Year of Family Farming this year, these farmer-beneficiaries play a major role in ensuring food security by working doubly hard for the continued and sustainable agricultural production.
