AYUGAN City -- Senator JV Ejercito said the much awaited multibillion pesos Mindanao Railway Network project which implementation starts next year would surely benefit villagers in the far-flung areas of this province.

The pro-administration lawmaker made this assurance during his recent visit to Barangay Sto. Niño of this

city, a far-flung mountain village, with the invitation of Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza to celebrate the festivities of

the residents. “I am very glad and elated to learn that I am the first Senator to visit Barangay Sto. Nino here in Bayugan City. With the construction of the Mindanao railway system, the least benefited citizen here will have the opportunity to develop because it will be much easier to transport your products from one point in Mindanao to another point riding on a train,” Ejercito railway/PAGE 11

Transmission projects ZAMBOANGA City -- The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced that the reinforcement of the Mindanao transmission backbone project is expected to be completed within the first quarter of 2019, months ahead of its target completion in June 2019. In a statement, the NGCP said the Mindanao 230 kilo-volt (KV) Transmission Backbone Project would address the anticipated addition of bulk power generation in the area by strengthening the existing capacity of the MatanaoToril-Bunawan and the Balo-i-Maramag-Bunawan transmission lines from 138KV to 230-KV. Once completed, the NGCP said the transmission backbone would accommodate renewable and conventional power plants in the northern and southern parts of Mindanao, which would in turn ensure stable and continuous power from Lanao del Norte, passing through Agusan del Sur, all the way to Davao del Sur.

SURIGAO Cit y -- The continued decline of f ish catch volume that has greatly affected the fisherfolk in Caraga and the implementation of fisheries laws that allegedly devastated the livelihood of ordinary fishermen in the region while benefitting the largescale fishing industry have prompted some party-list legislators to conduct an investigation.

The House Committee on Aquaculture and Fisheries Resources is initiating the probe, noting that “the 1989 daily catch of 20 kilograms [in Caraga’s waters] alarmingly fell to 1 to 2 kilograms at present.” MindaNews obtained last Monday a copy of House Resolution number 1316 submitted to Congress last Sept. 18. impact/PAGE 9
