Electric cooperatives asked to extend grace period, staggered payment of bills Power bills reprieve FOLLOWING the declaration of extension of the state of calamity in the country due to the continued threat of the coronavirus pandemic, the National Electrification Administration (NEA) has again asked all electric cooperatives to offer a grace period and staggered payment methods for electricity bills due during the lockdown. NEA Administrator Edgardo R. Masongsong issued Memorandum No. 2020-047, endorsing the Energy department’s advisory on power sector bill grace periods. “All electric cooperatives are enjoined to abide by the directives, specifically the implementation of 30-day grace period and staggered payment for unpaid bills, particularly those that fall due within the community quarantine period,” Mr. Masongsong said in a press release on Friday.

Zero complaint THE province of Camiguin has the l owest coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in the Northern Mindanao region, and received zero complaints in the management of patient care facilities. Rhona Abadilla, provincial director of the Department of the Interior of Local Government (DILG), said on Wednesday there were no negative feedbacks given by returning residents who underwent the standard quarantine protocols. Abadilla said the province has 64 isolation units, with 603-bed capacity in the 56 barangays in the province's five towns.

HE loans extended by the National Electrification Administration (NEA) to the country’s electric cooperatives (ECs) reached P364.5 million as of end-September, and that already topped the scale of credit window allotted for them this year.

The government-run agenc y s aid t he cre dit facilities funneled to the power utilities include those on calamity loans, which had been accessed by the ECs so they can push for the repair of their facilities walloped by natural disasters, primarily typhoons. LOANS/PAGE 9
