Davao-Zambo route DAVAO City -- The city government expects the resumption by flag-carrier Philippine Airlines of the Davao-Zamboanga route to bolster trade and commerce between two cities, according to Davao City Councilor Marissa Abella. Abella said the launch of the new route will pave the way for trade and commerce as it will facilitate the exchange of services, goods, other agricultural products and tourism. The new route will also facilitate interisland connectivity, bringing people together. “With this route it will be much easier for Dabawenyos to discover the beauty of Zamboanga and its nearby cities and municipalities and I am sure Zamboanguenos would very much love to visit our city where the President (Rodrigo Duterte) comes from,” she said.

Banana probe THE banana industry will investigate possible tampering involving Philippine banana exports to Japan, which led to the rejection by the Japanese of about 9,000 packages. “That’s very serious and we intend to get to the bottom of it. We will find out how it happened, where it happened,” Pilipino Banana Growers and Exporters Association, Inc. (PBGEA) Executive Director Stephen A. Antig said in a phone interview on Thursday. Mr. Antig was responding to news reports that Dole Japan, Inc. rejected a shipment after finding a three-centimeter wire in a banana during an inspection. Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol, meanwhile, said rejections are a routine event.
