‘Outright sale’ mulled for Agus hydro plants T
DAVAO City -- The Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) in cooperation with the D e p a r t m e n t o f Tr a d e and Industry (DTI) XI is set to establish a Young Entrepreneur Center in the city. “This will serve as an incubation center for young entrepreneurs who may want to experiment on their products or perfect their existing business ideas,” DCCCII president architect Daniel T. Lim said. Lim said there is a need to help young people become entrepreneurs to become financially independent from their parents. This will also help them establish a foothold in business arena even at such a young age, he added.
Outright sale of the Agus hydropower complex is being considered as the best option, according to a technical working group.

Use of alternative fuel, new energy technologies urged
TWO hundred fiftynine (259) victims were rescued through the help of the government’s human trafficking action line 1343 as of July 31, this year. Ariel T. Cruz of the Commission on Filipino Overseas (CFO) said 241 actual cases were brought to the action line and handled by the members of the Inter Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT). H e s ai d 71 of t he cases were on human trafficking, 66 cases on illegal recruitment while eight were mail-order bride cases. The 1343 action line, he said, is a 24/7 hotline that attends and responds to calls requesting for assistance or reporting suspected human trafficking activities.

HE technical working group of the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM) has proposed an “outright sale” for the Agus hydropower complex in Mindanao, as culled from its study outcome.
“ T he A g u s T WG recommended that the only option for privatization is an outright sale by way of public bidding in compliance with EPIRA (Electric Power Industry Reform Act) and
its IRR (implementing rules and regulations,” a document submitted by PSALM to the Department of Energy (DOE) has noted. The recommended privatization mode a lso
took into account other relevant government rules and regulations such as the Commission on Audit Circular No. 89-296. THE Department of Energy (DOE) during its “Alternative Fuels Stakeholders Forum” here encouraged stakeholders to consider using alternative f uels a nd new energ y te c h nolog ie s i n publ ic transport. Ac c ord i n g t o E n g r. Virgilio B. Arzadon of DOE, 2011 study showed that in terms of fuel consumption
the transport sector consumes most energy with 34.7% followed by residential with 26.1%, industries 25.9% and commercial with 11.9%.
