Damaged schools COTABATO City -- The education department of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is eyeing the immediate repair of seven damaged public schools in Marawi City. The repair, along with the rehabilitation of 54 other schools across the province of Lanao del Sur, is estimated to cost over P34-million, said Alfhadar Pajiji, Department of Education–ARMM assistant secretary. Post-conflict assessment conducted by DepED-ARMM identified the seven schools in Marawi as the Matampay Elementary School; Tampilong Elementary School; Datu Saber Elementary School; Basak Elementary School; Amai Pakpak Central Elementary School; Pandi Elementary School; and the Marawi City National High School.
Need for peacetalks RESUMING talks with the communist insurgents remains the best option for the Duterte government if it wants to achieve lasting peace in the country, a religious leader said. Bishop Felixberto Calang, an official of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI) and co-convenor of the Philippine Ecumenical Peace Platform (PEPP), noted that negotiators from both the government and the National Democratic Front (NDF) have already made progress during the several rounds of peace negotiations in Europe early this year. Bishop Calang, who sat as observer to the rounds of negotiations in Italy and Netherlands, described how both panels adopted a twopronged approach in the talks that was “working.”

A V A O City -- Six Agribusiness V e n t u r e Arrangements ( AVA s ) s i g n e d between agricultural firms and agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) may be revoked after being re v i e w e d b y t h e Presidential Agrarian Reform C ouncil (PARC), a top official of the Department Agrarian Reform (DAR) said Thursday. Of the six AVAs, five are in Mindanao and only one in Visayas, DAR officer-incharge Rosalina Bistoyong said in an interview during the public hearing of the Hous e C ommittee on Agrarian Reform on the impact of AVA at the CAP Grand Auditorium here. She said the PARC, chaired by President Rodrigo R.
