Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Marissa DM Navales said the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) is the culmination of the yearly nutrition program Monitoring Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) and Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) evaluation.

This year, some 32 barangays were given the regional green banner award and Camiguin was named as the outstanding province in the region, Gingoog LGU grabbed the outstanding city award, and Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon for the municipality level.

Poor households To ensure transparency and to correct errors in the list of poor households it generated, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to accommodate error issues filed by families and communities regarding the initial list of poor households posted in their barangays as part of the Department’s validation phase.

The list of poor households is generated through the DSWD’s “Listahanan” or the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction, which shall become the basis in identifying qualified beneficiaries for social protection programs and social services in the country. The list can also be used by other national government agencies, and providers of social protection programs and services.

INDANAO’S Cacao Double-up program is getting a P160-million allocation for 2016 from the Department of Agriculture (DA), which will go mainly to farmers groups in identified priority areas.

hink a minute…A guy was complaining to his friend about his wife’s nagging. He said: “All my wife does is talk, talk, talk, talk.” His friend asked: “Well what does she talk about?”

He answered: “I don’t know, she don’t say!” You would think that with 2 ears and 1 mouth, we’d all be twice as good listeners as talkers! But not so. Research shows that we usually listen to only 20% of what others say to us. Yet good listening is one of the easiest, most important ways to be successful—whether it’s in our job and career, our marriage, with our children, or with our friends.

It’s interesting that even though we can’t actually shut our ears, we somehow still manage to. We listen only to what we want. But when we don’t listen closely to others, we not only hurt them, we hurt ourselves. There are 3 important things we need to do when we listen to others.

The first, is observation. Use your eyes and look at them.

It’s just common courtesy and respect. Take your eyes off the T.V., newspaper, or whatever else, and give that person your attention.

The second part of listening is concentration. Many of us are guilty of looking someone

Hear them out. Listen to everything they have to say before you respond.

Really care about what that person is feeling or going through. Don’t just hear the person’s words, but try to understand their feelings.

People usually know if we’re really interested and care about what they’re saying.

This means we’re even willing to change something about ourselves if it’s hurting them.

Lockdown in Manila

C

oming as it did in the wake of the deadly Paris terrorist attacks, the two-day APEC summit conference held last week was, truth be told, a security nightmare.

Protecting one head of state was difficult enough. Securing 21 was hellish.

Combined police and armed forces personnel, estimated in the tens of thousands, were deployed in various sensitive points in and around the conference venue and the hotels where economic leaders stayed.

“Marami sa amin hinatak pa mula sa probinsiya para mag-secure dito sa APEC,” a provincial policeman told media.

The following measures were put in place before and during the conference: No fly zone. No drone zone. No sail zone. No jog zone. No walk zone.

“Lockdown” became last week’s buzzword as security officials tried to explain and to apologize to the public. If it is any consolation to affected Metro Manilans, this type of event will happen only every twenty years.

Even the United States waded in. A US warship patrolled Manila Bay for the duration of the gathering of economic leaders.

Thankfully, nothing very serious marred the event in Manila. At the other end of the archipelago, however, the Abu Sayyaf chose the occasion to behead a Malaysian captive - a grim reminder that the forces of terror are very much around.

The beheading was a severe blow especially to Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Razak is scheduled to host the Asean meeting this week in Kuala Lumpur.

In their declaration at the end of the conference, the APEC leaders strongly condemned terrorism. At the same time, they emphasized that combatting poverty was the best antidote to terrorism.

The traditional leaders’ declaration summed up the commitments and action plans on a smorgasbord of issues which are designed to make development more inclusive: gender equality, climate change, renewable energy, access to capital, access to market, capacity bu i l d i ng for M SM E s , integration, collaboration.

The South China issue was not included in the agenda in the plenaries. But parties meeting in bilaterals just could not keep the subject off the table. Emerging from his bilateral meeting with President Aquino, President Obama declared that all reclamations in the disputed areas should be stopped. He also pledged the US’ “rocksolid commitment” to the defense of its staunch ally.

Obama also pledged to donate two vessels to the Philippine navy to beef up its capabilities, earning him the sobriquet “Barko Obama”. Not to be outdone, Australia’s Malcolm Turnbull also pledged two landing crafts.

(I heard my wife’s nurse comment: “Sana train na lang ng MRT and dinonate ni Obama.”)

Without specif ically referring to the South China Sea, President Xi Jin Ping, merely expressed in APEC’s opening ceremony his hope

for peace in the region and urged that differences be resolved through dialogue and consultation.

Other issues surfaced w h i c h on l y s e r v e d t o emphasize the heightening political and economic rivalry between the US and China as they compete for wider influence in the region.

by China). A development bank sponsored by China v. World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, supported by the United States and Japan.

Team Nieto. A lady reporter could not help but swoon over Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau: “Parang ang sarap pindutin ng kanyang ilong.” Another lady reporter just went gaga every time Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto winked.

But TV host Tina Munoz Palma provided the dampener when she asked Trudeau what he intended to do about the tons of garbage exported by a Canadian firm to the Philippines. In fairness, this “laglag basura” happened b efore Tr ude au’s t ime.

Trudeau replied that moving forward he will ensure that laws are in place to enable the government to deal with such incidents.

SWD 2015 will also highlight the role of startups in boosting the Philippine economy.

According to industry estimates, as of 2015, there are

According to Lada, past Startup Weekends have taught past participants about the local and global startup industry and gave insights on what Filipino businesses need to compete internationally.

“Most especially, the event encouraged participants to build their own startups and, from there, build a synergetic community of startup movers and shakers,” she added.

PLDT completes network migration, goes full throttle on digital services TELECOMMUNICATIONS and digital services provider PLDT has completed the multi-year transformation of its landline network into a purely Internet Protocol (IP)-based Next Generation Network (NGN) system.

The P6-billion network m i g r at i on w i l l f u r t he r enhance the deliver y of its various services to its customers, according to a press statement.

network transformation program entailed the migration of a total of 782 switches and nearly 1.3 million lines.

PHILIPPINE Airlines, Inc. and Cebu Air, Inc. has said they stand to lose around P1.2 billion in revenues from the cancellation of more than 1,500 flights resulting from the country’s hosting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting last week.

“PA L’s f o r e g o n e o r lost revenue due to APEC cancellations is approximately $18.7 million (over P880 million),” PAL Spokesperson Cielo C. Villaluna said.

PAL President and Chief Operating Officer Jaime J. Bautista added separately via text: “It’s a good estimate of lost revenue.”

Ms. Villaluna said PAL cancelled over 700 flights, which represent more or less 2.5 days of operations, at Manila’s international airport to give way for the arrival and departure of world leaders attending the APEC summit.

The flag carrier operates around 260 flights and generates around $7.5 million in gross revenue daily.

However, Ms. Villaluna noted PAL’s revenue losses will be offset by the long-term benefits from the country’s hosting of the APEC summit.

“We must stress, however, that the long-term benefits of APEC outweigh these aforementioned losses,” the

Meanwhile, Gokongwei-led budget carrier Cebu Air, Inc., which operates Cebu Pacific Air and Cebgo, estimated its revenue losses will hit P400 million from the cancellation of 847 flights this week.

“CEB estimates a revenue loss of P400 million from flight cancellations due to the APEC meeting,” Cebu Pacific Corporate Affairs Officer-inCharge Paterno S. Mantaring, Jr. said in a separate text reply.

“As there may still be further changes in flight schedules within the week, this figure may still change,” he added.

Philippines AirAsia, which canceled 186 plane trips, has yet to release a figure on foregone revenue.

The airlines had to suspend operations after the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines declared a “no fly zone” to give way to “special operations” for the arrivals and departures of the heads of states.

The agency also declared restrictions on the movement of general aviation aircraft.

Most of the leaders of the 21 APEC member economies have already arrived in Manila, including United States President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The two-day APEC summit will begin on Wednesday.

Almost 300 farmer-beneficiaries receive land ownership title

Almost 300 farmerbeneficiaries in the Autonomous Reg ion in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) received their Certificate of Land Ownership (CLO) on Thursday, November 19.

ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman and Amihilda Sangcopan, secretar y of the region’s Department of Agrarian R efor m (DAR-ARMM), pers onally awarded the CLO to 70 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) from Basilan and 221 ARBs from Maguindanao. The awarding was held during the opening ceremony of this year’s ARMM anniversar y in Cotabato City.

The distributed CLO covers a total of 711 hectares of landholdings in the region wherein 154.5 hectares are in Basilan while 556.5 are in Maguindanao.

Secretary Sangcopan said there are still 967 pending CLOs in the regional DAR office that covers more than 2,000 hectares of landholdings in the provinces of Sulu, Basilan, Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao. Four hundred eighty one of these are already for transmittal to the office of the regional governor.

She said the landholdings awarded on Thursday are part of the agency’s distribution target this year. “We are working to distribute 20,000 hectares of landholdings this 2015. We are assured of approved survey plans before the end of the year,” she added.

GENERAL Santos City -Despite a drop in the price of canned tuna, total receipts for the first eight months of the year went up due to an increase in the export volume, according to PhilExport in Central Mindanao.

The average price per ton of Philippine canned tuna this year is down to US$3,127.48 from last year’s $3,474.68, bringing total eight-month export receipts to $113,513,764 with four months still to go.

Prices also fell for frozen whole tuna ($648.65 per ton) and pouched tuna ($1,036.50 per ton).

The drop in prices was, however, offset by a major spike in frozen tuna exports, with Philexport Central Mindanao recording a receipt of $22,081,963.57.

Total monthly receipts from tuna exports this year was also slightly better, with an average value of $22,921,172,91, up from last

year’s $21,768,234.45, or an increase of 5.3percent.

Total export revenues of tuna products coming from this city from January to August have already reached $183,369,383.26.

In 2014, the overall value of tuna exports from General Santos was pegged at $261,218,813.35, according to records of the Bureau of Customs here.

PhilExport C entral Mindanao regional director Ismael Salih Jr. said based on data supplied by the BoC in General Santos City, the total volume of tuna exports in the first eight months of this year has already reached 60,125.38 metric tons, for a monthly average of 7,515.67.

The average monthly tuna export volume in 2014 was only 6,784.18 metric tons.

Despite being dislodged as the top export, receipts from tuna products were still central Mindanao’s top dollar revenue earner.

From January to August this year, total tuna export revenues hit US$183,369,383.26 for a

modest growth of 5.3 percent.

Crude coconut oil is the third largest export revenue earner of central Mindanao with a value of US$77,162,418.62.

Rounding up the top 10 export commodities of Region 12 this year are fresh Cavendish bananas, copra meal, frozen whole tuna, coconut water, pouched tuna and frozen tuna.

Dramatic rise in tuna exports makes up for drop in prices their export volume largely due to the increase in frozen tuna imports, which reached 72,875.01 metric tons in the first six months of the year, or a 50 percent increase over the 48,464.62 metric tons in the same period last year.

The figure for frozen tuna imports this year already represents 63 percent of tuna landings in General Santos City, a new record high since the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority office at the General Santos City Fishing Port Complex began releasing data on local tuna landings.

Local catch however

has been in steady decline over the last couple of years, dropping by 24 percent over the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2014.

Industry sources said t he re c u r r ing E l Niño phenomenon, fishing ground restrictions and overall decline of tuna stocks have contributed to the decrease in the local tuna catch.

General Santos City is widely acknowledged as the Tuna Capital of the Philippines with six of the countr y’s eight canning plants located in the city.

Bangko Sentral to expand R&D on financial inclusion program

W

ITH the region increasingly m ore fo c u s e d on inclusive growth with the looming integration, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is putting into higher gear efforts to improve the pace of financial inclusion through “purposeful action” using research and development (R&D).

BSP Governor Amando M. Tetangco Jr. said they are pursuing more R&D in the field of financial inclusion to tie it up with how they conduct policy research. “ ( T h i s i s to ) e x am i n e the linkages of financial inclusion regulations with the objectives of financial st abi lity, integr ity and consumer protection.” The

results of this research should optimize “positive linkages, maximizing synergies and minimizing trade-offs (in BSP) policy considerations.”

This R&D can be of much use for the private sector as well such as in pursuing product innovations, targeting niche markets, business model development and strategic decisionmaking.

Tetangco said they hope to challenge what they already know of financial inclusion through more research.

The overa l l go a l of broadening further studies and the implementation of financial inclusion is to “mainstream Filipinos” as regular clients of the financial sector, particularly unserved sectors such as MSMEs,

overseas Filipinos and their beneficiaries, agriculture and agrarian reform sectors, indigenous peoples and cultural minorities, women, the youth, and persons with disabilities.

Te t a n g c o r e c e n t l y attended a financial inclusion summit ahead of the APEC concluding week, and talked about the BSP’s proactive works when it comes to inclusive growth.

In this summit, new trends and technology were discussed. Tetangco said R&D makes regulators and practitioners to become more “responsive and effective.” “At the Philippine central bank, we use research extensively to design and implement regulations and programs that target barriers to financial

inclusion,” he said.

Based on a Work Bank survey, Filipinos were found able to manage and save up their money but they lack access to financial services.

The survey – “Enhancing Financial Capability and Inclusion in the Philippines – A Demand-side Assessment” – estimated that about 20 million Filipino adults save money but only 10 million of this total have bank accounts.

What is interesting is that 98 percent of those surveyed with savings but do not have bank accounts earn about P50,000 a month.

T h e Wo r l d B a n k commended the central bank efforts to enhance financial inclusion programs and they expect this to expand its reach further.

THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ (BSP) Monetary Board has placed the Rural Bank of Calasiao, Inc. in Pangasinan under state receivership, bringing the number of banks closed this year thus far to 12.

The Pangasinan-based bank was ordered closed by the monetary authorities through Resolution 1877 penned on Nov. 13. The state-run Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp. (PDIC) was appointed to take over the bank since Monday.

Rural Bank of Calasiao is a single-unit local bank of the province. As of endJune, the bank had total deposit liabilities of P102 million, 83.9% or P85.5 million of which are insured deposits. The bank holds 3,019 accounts.

T h e c e n t r a l b a n k’s Monetary Board can order the closing of problem banks if they are found with insufficient liquid assets to

meet its liabilities or turns incapable of continuing its operations without causing losses to its depositors.

As per PDIC rules, all bank deposits are insured for a maximum coverage of P500,000.

“For depositors that are required to file deposit insurance claims, the PDIC t argets to st ar t cl aims settlement operations for these accounts by the second week of December 2015,” the PDIC said in the statement.

Meanwhile, depositors whose claims stand not exceeding P100,000 may seek early payment and would not need to undergo the formal process of filing for claims, which is eyed to be started “by the last week of November 2015.”

The PDIC will be staging a forum on Nov. 26 for depositors to check if they can avail of early payment, it added.

After having been informed of her pregnancy, petitioner’s parents decided to send her in exile to petitioner’s maternal Grandmother in Calamba, Misamis Occidental so as to avoid public ridicule and embarrassments. On March 28, 2001, she gave birth to a baby girl named EMMA BLESS in Calamba Emergency Hospital. Instead of registering the birth of said child in the Local Civil Registrar of Calamba, Misamis Occidental, her parents decided to cause the registration of the child in the Local Civil Registrar of Baroy, Lanao del Norte making it also to appear that they are the parents of the child registering the child to be EMMA BLESS M. AGUAVIVA when in truth and in fact, she is the true biological mother of the child and the biological father is WILMAR JUFE MEDIANERO. More than one year after giving birth to her first child, she fell in love to another guy named MARC PHILLIP BORJA, also a resident of Sto. Niño Village, Baroy, Lanao del Norte. Their relationship resulted again to her second pregnancy. However, instead of going in exile to another place, she opted to stay at home. Two months after she discovered that she was pregnant, she broke up with Marc Phillip Borja. On August 17, 2003, she gave birth to her second child named DWIGHT DAVID at Lanao del Norte Provincial Hospital. When the birth of the child was registered in the Local Civil Registrar of Baroy, Lanao del Norte, her parents again insisted to write their names as the parents of the child, making it appear that the child Dwight David M. Aguaviva is their son, when in truth and in fact, she is the biological mother of the child, Dwight David which she begot with Marc Phillip Borja. Petitioner was constrained to give her consent to simulate the birth certificates of her children, Emma Bless and Dwight David owing to the fact what life would follow after giving birth to her children without their fathers assist her in raising them up. Thus, her parents were compelled to simulate the birth certificates of her children believing in good faith that by doing such scheme, it would be for the best interest of the children. Now, that she has grown up and mature, she realized that was she did is a big mistake and deeply felt in remorse and regret of her wrongdoing of having allowed her parents to register their names as the parents of her two children. That there is an imperative need to cancel the birth certificates of the children and they contained entries that are false and spurious so as to avoid confusion as to the true identities of the said children. Hence, the petition, filed not to conceal crime or evade criminal prosecution.

The Davao Region is the leading coconut grower in Mindanao, followed by the Zamboanga Peninsula, Caraga Region, and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

The program is targeting to intercrop cacao in about 200,000 hectares of coconut farms.

Ms. Lopoz earlier said the project needs at least P3 billion to achieve the goal of increasing cacao production to 100,000 metric tons (MT) by 2020 in Mindanao, which currently produces 90% of the country’s total production.

Output was about 44,000 MT last year, based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.

The actual cost of the project will be determined based on the annual work and financial plan that MinDA and the DA will jointly formulate.

The budget will cover the production of high quality grafted cacao seedlings, transplanting and rehabilitation, and project management expense and capacity building assistance.

Ms. Lopoz said the doubleup program is geared towards allowing Mindanao to fill about 10% of the projected global production deficit by 2020.

TOP 12 FAQs I HAVE HEARD FROM MY PATIENTS 1. What is breast cancer?

Breast Cancer is a malignancy involving the mammary glands (breast).

Like any other cancer, it usually starts from a damage to a single cell leading to a rampant growth of those cells and spreading to other normal cells (tumor) with a potential to invade and spread to other organs (metastasis) 2. What is the incidence of breast cancer?

It is the most common cause of cancer and cancer

death among women, with a worldwide incidence of breast cancer is 22.9% of all types of cancer. It causes almost half a million deaths a year worldwide, and about 1.4 million women were affected. In the Philippines it is the most common cause of cancer for both sexes combined.

3. Does it only affect women?

Although it commonly affects women, about 1.7% or close to 2 men for every 100 women will develop

breast cancer.

4. Who are at higher risk of getting breast cancer?

There are identifiable risk factors: • Increasing age – most common in the 50s but incidence starts to rise dramatically at age 40.

• Family History of Breast Cancer – about 20% of breast cancer has a family predisposition and 5% are truly hereditary (with identifiable genetic mutation like BRCA 1

and 2) • Hormonal factors – late (above 35) or not being able to get pregnant, early menstruation (12 and below), late menopause (45 and above). In other words, the longer (number of years) a woman is exposed to the monthly menstruation, the higher the risk.

Long term use of oral contraceptives is also a risk.

• Diet and lifestyle –

alcohol and smoking are risk factors, as well as obesity.

• Pre malignant breast lesions – if you have been diagnosed with a breast mass with atypia.

You are at risk four-fold.

• There are other things associated with breast cancer but are not well-established, what is important to remember is that almost 80% of breast cancer only have BEING A WOMAN AND AGE above 40 as identifiable risk factor.

5. Can Breast Cancer be prevented? How do we detect it early?

Breast cancer cannot be prevented, but it can be cured when diagnosed early. The following are the recommended screening methods: • SELF-BREAST EXAMINATION a week after menstruation • BREAST EXAMINATION by a healthcare professional, annually for women 40 and above and every 2-3 years for younger women • MAMMOGRAPHY annually beginning age 40 6. What is the first probable sign of breast cancer?

The presence of a mass or a thickening of the breast is the only symptom of breast cancer, rarely, it can present as a palpable lymph node in the armpit.

However, with screening mammography, and seeing your doctor early – it can be detected at its earliest stage.

7. How do I know I have breast cancer?

If your doctor suspects that your mass is a breast cancer, he will request for some imaging like mammography and breast ultrasound to characterize the mass. However, THE ONLY CONFIRMATORY diagnostic procedure is a BIOPSY procedure, either through needle or open biopsy.

8. What should I do when I have breast cancer?

First, see a qualified doctor to take care of you.

The first thing to be done is surgery. You can either have your whole breast removed (mastectomy) or have it preserved (breast conservation). Surgery is the cornerstone of treatment of breast cancer.

9. Are there other treatments needed after surgery?

ADJUVANT treatments are added after surgery – meaning, they are added to improve survival and decrease the chance that breast cancer will come back. The following are the adjuvant treatments: • CHEMOTHERAPY is the giving of toxic medicines to kill whatever cancer cells remained in your system.

• RADIATION is added to improve local control and prevent breast cancer from coming back. If conservation

was done, radiation is a must • HORMONAL TREATMENT in the form of oral drugs are given to those with HORMONE RESPONSIVE breast cancers (ER or PR positive tumors) 10. What has to be done when I completed treatment?

There is always that risk that it may come back, so you need to see your doctor on a regular basis for surveillance. He will be requesting some tests to monitor you.

11. What are the stages of breast cancer and its significance?

STAGE 0: Breast cancer cells are confined inside the milk ducts (In situ breast cancer) Cure is almost 100%.

STAGE I: Breast cancer less than 2 cm in size with no axillary spread or distant organ spread. About 90% 5-year survival and 80% 10year survival.

STAGE II: More than two cm in size, with or without axillary spread.

About 70% 5 year and 60% 10 year survival.

STAGE III: Locally advanced, more than 5 cm, with positive lymph nodes.

40% 5 and 35% 10 year survival STAGE IV: Metastatic, cancer has spread to other organs. 10% 5-year survival, less than 7% 10-year survival.

Survival and chance for cure depends on the stage.

The earliest the stage, the greater chances for cure.

12. What to do when cancer returns?

It has to be determined where the cancer has recurred, some recurrence have better prognosis than the other, you have to see your doctor immediately.

There are many other questions that I get from my patients and in the many lectures I give to doctors and laymen alike. But these are the top 12 questions that everybody should basically know about breast cancer.

There are many resources available on the web and on published articles. Just always remember, the best chance for breast cancer is getting it early. Under the leadership of the dynamic City Mayor Hon. Philip T. Tan and the Executive Chairperson of Tangub City 25*50 CommissionDr. Jennifer Wee Tan and the Local Government’s thrusts to enhance tourism industry in Panguil Bay Sub-Region programs/ activities to support its tourism potentials are

being formulated in order to substantiate the developmental process in this sector.

Considering the tourism potentials of the city, in CY 2010, tourist in Region 10 register a total number of 1,483,525 of which 45.15% (69,873) was contributed by the Province of Misamis Occidental. Of the total, Tangub City is able to contribute 31.20% (209,999) to the province while 14.08% to the whole region.

The city’s significant contribution to the number of tourist arrivals was attributed by the Christmas symbols Festival during Christmas Season which has given the city a remarkable prestige for being known to be the Christmas Symbols Capital of the Philippines. The festivals are just some of the salient ingredients that will put Tangub City in the array of top tourists destinations in the country. Although, the activities are seasonal, the city government takes a step by having innovations to promote sustainable year round tourism activities as an element in strategizing concepts to develop tourism industry in the region and to alleviate socio-economic stability of the community.

The Eco-Tourism Development Project of the City will bring to a perspective to level up tourism industry leading to sustainable socioeconomic opportunities.

The project aims to promote Tangub City as a prime tourist destination in the region and to promote the socio-economic and environmental condition of the city. The ecotourism development projects are innovatively designed beyond the normal concept of environmental development but anchored on the ecotourism promotion and development with the objective of helping the national government’s target of increasing tourist arrivals in the country.

The eco-tourism project will significantly contribute to the realization of the city’s long term vision of becoming a vibrant agriproducer, eco-tourism and learning center for skills technology, culture and the arts in Northwestern Mindanao spearheaded by competent and dynamic leaders working harmoniously with empowered, responsive, environmentally concerned and familyoriented society.

zamiz City is this year's grand champion of the recently concluded grandiose and vibrant 6th PAS'UNGKO S'G MIS OCC FESTIVAL held at the MOPAC Grandstand last November 14, 2015.

Now on its 6th year, Pas'ungko S'g Mis Occ Festival is a celebration of thanksgiving to the "Magbabaya" and way of life of the Subanen culture and tradition, a predominant tribe settling in the early days of the Province of Misamis Occidental-

celebrating its 86th year founding anniversary.

The Pas'ungko S'g Mis Occ Festival recently is being accredited and duly recognized by the Department of Tourism (DOT) as an official annual festival of the Province of Misamis Occidental in Northern Mindanao and of the country today.

Clad and dressed in black and red dominant colorful customes of the Subanens, Ozamiz contingent executed the dance steps with vibrance and tone of real time in historical events.

Thematic enviromental props with aura of nostalgia brought the crowd to drawing back of the actual golden harvest festivity. Through their beautiful and realistic theme execution of the Subanen 'Harvest and Thanksgiving Ritual', Ozamiz City bested all other fifteen (15) contingents of the province. Their authentic Subanen ritual execution of the beautiful theme catapulted them as Grand Champion of this year's 6th Pas'ungko S'g Mis Occ Festival 2015. With the championship trophy

they also won the Best in Choreography and Best in Festival Director awards along with a Special Award as Best in Props.

4th place went to the Municipality of Plaridel with their amazing Subanen ritual execution of welcoming guests, a rich culture of the Subanen of being friendly and caring tribe to their fellow Subanons and to their visitors. Plaridel also got the coveted Best in Costume Award.

3rd place went to the Municipality of Jimenez, the home of century old church of the country which showcased the 'Baptism' Ritual of the tribe. Special Award as Best in Street Dancing also was won by Jimenez.

2nd place went to the Municipality of Baliangao through their beautiful execution of the Subanen Ritual of Courtship and Marriage-a tradition which up to now is being practiced by the tribe amidst the modern times way of courtship and marriage. A tradition that should be kept intact in our culture as Filipinos. 1st Place went to the Municipality of Aloran-with their

awesome execution of the Subanen way of Healing the Sick and how the community helped each other to arrest the malady that beseiged them and imploring and give thanksgiving to the "Magbabaya" for healing the sick.

Best in Musicality with authentic sound of Subanen music went to the Municipality of Aloran. Giving and showing their best to make the festival a great and tremendous success were the Municipality of Bonifacio-Enthronment, Municipality of Tudela-Harvest and Thanksgiving, City of Good Life OroquietaCourtship and Wedding, Municipality of Doin Victoriano-Enthronment, Municipality of CalambaWelcome, Municipality of Panaon-Healing of the Sick, Municipality of Sapang Dalaga-Harvest and Thanksgiving, Municipality of Concepcion-Courtship and Wedding, Municipality of Sinacaban-Baptism and the Municipality of Lopez Jaena-Welcome.

An estimated of 6,000 spectators, local, domestic and foreign

tourists filled MOPAC Grandstand and its periphery witnessed the grand Festival. The success was attributed through the efforts of Hon. Gerard Hilarion M. Ramiro-Chairman, Provincial Tourism Council and Committee on Tourism, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members, Hon. Governor Herminia M. Ramiro, Hon. Aurora Virginia M. Almonte, Congressman Almonte.

The mayors of the 16 municipalities and the two component cities who sent their respective contingents and made the festival a tremendous success.
