Bleak tourism THE OUTLOOK for tourism next year remains bleak, with the Philippines struggling to contain a coronavirus pandemic and travelers awaiting the development of a vaccine, according to the Institute of International Finance (IIF), a global financial industry association. “We see the Philippines’ t o u r i s m r eve nu e i n f l ow s declining by 2.1% of GDP this year, as the government of the Philippines is still struggling to control the pandemic. The country has one of the most infections and most stringent lockdowns in the region,” Yuanliu Hu, an economist at Washington, DC-based IIF, said in an e-mail last week. Tourism was among the hardest-hit sectors during the coronavirus pandemic due to travel bans and quarantines to slow the spread of the virus.
