A JOINT team from the regional customs and agriculture offices has confiscated 18 40-foot container vans containing imported red onions, valued at P57 million, at the Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) sub-port in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, officials said Tuesday. Acting on information from the Special Task Group on Economic Intelligence (STG-EI), personnel of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) 10 (Northern Mindanao) inspected the containers with cargoes declared to be cream, flavored nuts, and other food products but were instead found to contain onions. Also part of the task force are the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and National Intelligence Coordinating Agency.
Rice production COTABATO City – Some 1,500 farmers in two Lanao del Sur towns are expected to boost their rice production with the operation of the P10-million Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) solar-powered irrigation system (SPIS). Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) – BARMM Minister Mohammad S. Yacob said Tuesday that the project has solar panels and 20 horsepower (HP) generation capacity, capable of accumulating 3.5 cubic meters of water per minute with 660 cubic meters that can supply water for 50 to 70 hectares of paddy fields. "We hope that the project will succeed and become a model for uplifting the livelihood of farmers in Lanao Del Sur, as well as in the whole Bangsamoro Region," he said in a statement.
Indemnificsation BUTUAN City -- Almost P400,000 worth of financial assistance has been extended on Thursday to hog raisers affected by the African swine fever (ASF) in the Caraga Region. Emmylou Presilda, the Information Officer of the Department of Agriculture (DA) in Caraga, told the Philippine News Agency on Friday that a total of P385,000 worth of financial aid were released to raisers in this city and the towns of Buenavista and Las Nieves in Agusan del Norte. “The continuing release of indemnification of ASFaffected hog raisers is in line with the swine insurance program of the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) as per memorandum issued by Agriculture Secretary William Dar,” Presilda said.

UBGAN, San Francisco, Surigao del Norte -- A large-scale mining firm has stopped its operations in this village shortly after authorities confirmed in a dialogue that it did not have the required permits, San Francisco Mayor Val Pinat said.
The dialogue on Tuesday at the pastoral center in San Francisco was attended by the mining company, townsfolk, and officials from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB)-Caraga and other government agencies. “I told the company (GoSun Siargao Waves Corp.) to pull out their heavy equipment units in the area,” Pinat told MindaNews on Thursday night.
