Davao grows 9.4% DAVAO City -- The economy of Davao Region grew at 9.4%, higher than the national growth average of 6.9%.

The growth as measured by the GRDP (Gross Regional Domestic Product) saw the performance of the regional economy buoyed by the industry sector that posted a growth of 16.5%.

Electricity, Gas, Water Supply (EGWS) grew by 44.5% while industry hiked at 12.2%.

The service sector grew by about 7.5% as it accounted for the biggest share of the region’s economic performance at 51.1% followed by the industry sector at 36.7% and the Agriculture, Hunting, Forestry, Fishing (AHFF) at 12.2%.

ORTHERN Mindanao’s economy grew by 7.6 percent in 2016, up 1.9 percentage points from the 5.7 percent posted in 2015, the Philippine Statistic Authority-10 (PSA-10) said.

Dutertenomics DAVAO City -- The administration’s economic plan dubbed as Dutertenomics can help push Davao Region’s GRDP (Gross Regional Development Product) growth further.

National Economic Development Authority-XI (NEDAXI) regional director Maria Lourdes Lim said that Dutertenomics whose plan is to allocate about 7% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product to build more infrastructure is expected to help the region breach its 2017 GRDP growth target of 8.6%-9.6%.

Lim said that indentified bigticket infra projects include the Davao Bypass Road, the Davao City Coastal Road and the Davao Food Terminal. These billion-peso projects would spur more growth.

Drug rehab facility THE construction of a P20 million drug rehabilitation facility in Sitio Maitum, Barangay Puerto in Cagayan de Oro would help the city government achieve its goal of a drug-free Cagayan de Oro, a local lawmaker said Friday.

Council Romeo Calizo, chair of the police, fire, and public safety committee, said the expansion project at the Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (TRC) will be the answer to the problem of lack of recovery facility for drug users not just in the city but in the region.

The present 100-bed TRC in Puerto, which is being managed by the Department of Health (DOH-10), sits on a 10-hectare lot owned by the local government unit, and is serving about 114 patients.

PSA-10 Regional Director Eddie Nasol disclosed the figure during a forum with business groups and stakeholders at the Limketkai Commercial Center here Thursday.

He said the region posted consistent growth in the industry and service sectors in the last six years.

The industry sector posted a 10.3 percent increase in 2016 as against the 4.8 percent growth in 2015.

The industry sector is composed of the mining and quarrying industry and the construction and the manufacturing industry, while services involved education, transport, banking and the trading sectors.

Holcim, Habitat build tribal village in Davao City

AVAO City -- Holcim Philippines, Inc. and the Habitat for Humanity Philippines are constructing a new Matigsalug-Manobo tribal village in Marilog District here.

Holcim has donated 142 tons of cement to build the tribal village for 47 Matigsalug-Manobo families, said Holcim Davao plant manager Xavier Kennedy in an interview Thursday.

Kennedy said the donation will be used for the construction of a concrete pathway and other masonry needs for communal facilities in Barangay Baganihan.

Sawadjaan said the project will adopt a “Single Detached Bamboo Reinforced House” design duly approved by the National Housing Authority and the Department of Public Works and Highways. ”This design is simple, durable and environment-

friendly. It is a permanent and str ucturally sound shelter structure with floor area of 25 square meters with reinforced concrete for column, footing and a roof beam. The design, standards and specifications are in compliance with National Building Code,” he added.

Sawadjaan said he plans to work with the community in developing the tribal village as a tourist destination that will showcase the tribe’s tradition and culture.

Ford makes newborn parenting a bit easier

or many new parents, there is only one guaranteed solution to putting their baby down at the end of the day – a nighttime drive that soothes, calms and eventually helps little one nod off.

But that still means a disrupted night for mom or dad, who research shows can

typically expect little more than five hours sleep a night while losing the equivalent of 44 days sleep in just the first year of their child’s life.

Help, however, could soon be at hand.

Ford has developed a cot that could simulate – in the comfort of your own home – the motion, engine

noise, and even the street lighting of those night time drives. To all appearances a regular cot, the Max Motor Dreams, comes to life using a smartphone app. This enables it to record and then reproduce the comforting movement, lights and sounds of a particular journey.

“After many years of

talking to mums and dads, we know that parents of newborns are often desperate for just one good night’s sleep. But while a quick drive in the family car can work wonders in getting baby off to sleep, the poor old parents still have to be awake and alert at the wheel,” said Max Motor Dreams

designer Alejandro López Bravo, of Spanish creative studio Espada y Santa Cruz, which produced the awardwinning design. “The Max Motor Dreams could make the everyday lives of a lot of people a little bit better.”

For now, the Max Motor Dreams is a one-off pilot.

How to debate with your partner Think a minute…A wise marriage counselor asks every couple wanting to get married if they have had a real argument yet. Often they answer: “Oh, no! We love each other. We never fight!”

This marriage counselor tells every couple to fight first before they get married.

He says that when couples disagree, they must learn to listen and understand each other’s feelings so they can solve their differences and forgive each other each time they disagree.

A very important skill in building a happy marriage and life together is learning how to debate with your mate. But there are rules you must follow to have a fair, good debate, so you will still be close friends afterwards.

First, before you start, both of you should agree to stick only to that issue. Don’t bring up past problems and hurts.

Second, remember that your goal is not to win the argument, but to understand each other’s feelings. In other words, TUNE IN. Really listen to what each other is thinking and feeling. Try to understand how you are causing them to feel hurt or wronged. Put yourself in their place and see things from their side.

The Duterte administration has rolled out a strategy of launching a massive infrastructure program which his economic planners believe will be the linch pin to a sustained and inclusive growth.

We don’t have to be nobel laureates to appreciate that.

Question is: how do we fund this ambitious program?

Secretary Carlos Dominguez, who quarterbacks the Duterte economic team, has drawn a financial roadmap which, hopefully, will produce the desired robust revenue inflows.

“The objective is to reform our tax system so that it becomes fairer, simpler and more efficient.”

This he intends to achieve through a combination of tax reform measures (of course with the help of Congress) and improvements on the ease of doing business through more efficient and responsive governance.

The tax reform package is

now pending with Congress.

In a nutshell, the tax reform proposal seeks to: 1. Lower personal and corporate income taxes.

2. Expand the VAT base by reducing the number of exceptions to the tax.

3. Adjust the excise taxes on petroleum.

4. Impose new excise tax on sugar-sweetened beverages.

Dominguez explains that lowering the tax base will greatly benefit the mass of wage workers who will consequently benefit from increased disposable income. It will also make our companies more competitive.

The latter four measures seek to compensate for revenue loss and collect additional taxes.

Directly under Dominguez are the Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Bureau of Customs which are the two principal national collecting agencies. The BIR collects three quarters of national revenue while the BOC

collects one-fourth.

To the BIR, Dominguez has given these marching orders: “We have to grow our revenues faster. The current t ax ef for ts among our neighbors run as high as 17 per cent. The first and last time we achieved that level was during the time of Commissioner Chato.

“You have to make sure that your tax collections are vigorous, that they are fair, and that they are done with no hint of corruption.

“Let us have cleaner, airier and more welcoming offices.

Let the taxpayers breathe. You are collecting their money after all.

“Simplify those confounding forms. There was time when former SGV Chair Gloria Climaco filled out her own BIR forms. Now she has to hire an accountant to do it.

“It is also time to hire younger and idealistic people in the service.”

They have not been known to uphold the interest of the country and the people. Duterte on the other hand enjoys the trust and confidence of millions of Filipinos, here and abroad, and so people easily believe whatever he is saying!

Her constant observation and pondering in her heart of what she saw in Christ is the perfect way we ought to follow in relating ourselves to Christ.

She is actually present in all aspects of our life, since as a mother who is already in heaven, she involves herself completely in our life, be it in the spiritual, moral, or material aspects.

She is never indifferent to our conditions, our varying situations and predicaments.

She loves us with a human and supernatural heart, always oozing with human affection as well as divine love.

She is always around, especially during our difficult times. She is not scandalized by our sins and dirt, but as a mother she is eager to clean us up. With all the privileges given to her by God, she can always do all these things.

If need be, she will make extraordinary interventions in our life as when she makes special apparitions if only to convey an urgent message to us. And with her, things will always turn out well, since God cannot refuse her appeals on our behalf, as shown in that first miracle of Christ during the wedding at Cana.

We have to learn to deal with her, developing a deep, most childlike devotion to her. We can ask ourselves: how many times have we gone to her today? How often do we express our devotion

Orlando Magic’s Elfrid Payton and former WNBA player Sue Wicks to coach Filipino Youth at Jr. NBA National Training Camp

he National B a s k e t b a l l Association (NBA) today announced that Elfrid Payton of the Orlando Magic and former WNBA player Sue Wicks will travel to Manila to participate in the Jr. NBA Philippines 2017 National Training Camp and help coach players from around the country vying to be named 2017 Jr. NBA All-Stars. The National Training Camp will be held at the Don Bosco Technical Institute May 12-13 and at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall on May 14.

Payton and Wicks will also serve as coaches at the annual Jr. NBA Alumni AllStar Game featuring past Jr. NBA standouts from across the country. Participation in this year’s program increased by 50 percent from 2016, reaching more than 30,000

players and coaches in cities including Bacolod, Batangas, Cagayan De Oro, Cebu, Davao, Lucena, Metro Manila, and Puerto Princesa.

“I’m excited to visit the Philippines for the first time and experience the country’s ent husi ast ic b asketb a l l culture,” said Payton. “These young players have worked hard to be a part of this camp, and I can’t wait to get on the court with them.”

PHL Olympic Committee constructs sports centers in provinces

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) is building sports centers in Gawad Kalinga Foundation communities that were affected by Typhoon Yolanda in 2013.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Olympic Solidarity program is funding the construction of the facilities aimed at

encouraging beneficiaries to take up sports to keep them healthy.

Globe lauds 5 VisMin LGUs for help in setting up cell sites

G

LOBE Tel e com has commend e d the support extended by five local government units (LGUs) in Visayas and Mindanao for telco companies to set up cell sites that would improve mobile services in their respective localities.

Globe general counsel, Atty. Froilan Castelo, said these cities are Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Mandaue, Bacolod and Dumaguete.

In Cagayan de Oro, the city government’s telco committees are drafting a resolution to reduce from 26 to six the number of permits for the establishment of cell sites. A meeting has been set this month for an update on the status of the resolution.

Davao City could expedite the installation of communications facilities so long as prerequisite permits are in order.

The local government of Mandaue City likewise expressed full support for Globe Telecom’s deployment of new cell sites by fast-tracking the permit process. The city governments of Bacolod and Dumaguete also expressed their commitment to the company’s initiative to roll out additional cell sites within the city.

“We are deeply grateful for the support afforded to us by the local governments in Cagayan De Oro, Davao, Mandaue, Dumaguete and Bacolod cities. We’re optimistic that other LGUs will follow suit as we desperately need the government, both at the local and national level, to empower and enable the sector to undertake infrastructure builds, not just in the construction of

cell sites but also in establishing underground facilities and in facilitating pole attachments,” Castelo said in a statement.

He reiterated that there are not enough cell sites to enable telco operators to sufficiently support mobile data growth in the country amid growing clamor for faster Internet service.

Bureaucratic red tape causes a significant delay in securing various permits from the LGUs concerned relating to the construction of telco infrastructure, such as cell sites and related facilities necessary to improve customer experience, particularly in mobile data.

The Philippines has only about 16,300 cell towers, compared to Vietnam’s 70,000 towers.

Aside from permitting issues at the local government level, exclusive and gated villages or subdivisions also prevent telco providers from installing facilities to provide services in their areas. Globe has a backlog of some 3,000 cell sites amid varying degrees of permitting issues despite aggressive efforts by the company to invest in network facilities. It spends close to 30 percent of its revenues, significantly higher than capital expenses by other operators in the Asian region, to fast-track improvements on the state of Internet in the country. Other topics embedded in the seminar include Basic Life Skills and Fertility Awareness.

The Community Improvement Division has already been conducting these fertility awareness seminars every summer to counter the steady increase of teenage pregnancies in the city as well as rising

In a briefing Thursday, Yap s ai d t he c omp any acquired halal certification for Unilever Cavite Foods Factory last February.

Unilever invested P1.7 billion for the manufacturing plant in Cavite, which is eyed to be the halal hub for markets of Southeast Asia and Australia. “ We’r e l o o k i n g a t exp or t ing to Ma laysia, which requires some halal products, specifically. And we’re looking to expanding in some Muslim population, at least in Southeast Asia countries,” Yap said, noting that the company is already exporting non-halal products to Malaysia.

Established in 2002, Synergeia is a coalition of individuals and organizations working closely with about 400 LGUs to help improve the delivery of basic education to children. The foundation intends to award the Seal of Good Education Governance to deserving LGUs every year.

Another incentive for LGUs in far-flung areas is the Smart School-in-a-Bag, which contains a solar panel to serve schools without electricity, devices, curriculum-based educational content, teacher training, monitoring, and evaluation.

Included in the incentive package are personal

Before this Court is a verified petition for cancellation of the certificate of live birth of DIAMOR BAULO BENANING dated February 2, 2017, and which reads in part: 1. Petitioner is of legal age, single and a resident of Panggao Saduc, Marawi City where she may be served with the orders and other processes of this Court; 2. Respondent Local Civil Registrar (LCR) of Marawi City is the custodian of all records of birth of persons born in the City of Marawi, and may be served with the orders and other processes of this Court at the Office of the Civil Registrar, Marawi City Hall Compound, Marawi City; 3. Respondent Civil Registrar General and Administrator of the Philippine Statistics Authority is the central custodian of all records of birth in the country and may be served with orders and other processes at the NSO Building, East Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City; 4. Petitioner was born to parents OMAR C. BENANING and MONA M. BAULO on January 26, 1997; 5. Petitioner belatedly registered the fact of her birth with Respondent LCR of Marawi on February 6, 2011, a copy of her Certificate of Live Birth (COLB) under Registry No. 2011-1391 is hereto attached and marked as Annex “A”; 6. Unknown to her, her birth was belatedly registered in the year 2009. As a matter of fact, when she was to secure another SECPA copy of her COLB under Registry No. 2011¬1391, she was given COLB with Registry No. 2009-7747 (Annex “B”). Apparently, COLB under Registry No. 2011-1391 has been locked up in the system of the Philippine Statistics Authority; 7. Unfortunately, the COLB with Registry No. 2009-7747 reflects numerous erroneous entries. Her middle name is BAMLO instead of BAULO; her year of birth reflects 1995 instead of 1997; her place of birth is Lilod Madaya instead of Panggao Saduc, Marawi City; the last names of her parents were interchanged, her mother’s was BENANING instead of BAULO and her father’s was BAULO instead of BENANING; and the same COLB reflects FARMER as the occupation of her father instead of BUSINESSMAN; 8. The existence of COLB with Registry No. 2009-7747 is unknown to herein petitioner much more the cause behind the erroneous entries thereto; 9. When she asked her father, who was the stated informant in the said COLB, her father denied having secured the same; 10. The following documents are hereto attached to prove that indeed the entries in the COLB under Registry No. 2009-7747 are erroneous, otherwise, it could have appeared in the said documents: a.

Civil Service Eligibility Examination Gate Pass Annex “F” 11. COLB 98-988 should be cancelled, not only because it contains erroneous entries but much more because it raises an unreasonable confusion as to the identity of the petitioner; 12. Further, this petition is never intended to defraud anyone, much more the government of the Republic of the Philippines but solely for the purpose of straightening the records of the petitioner; 13. Lastly, petitioner submits that nobody will be prejudiced by granting of this petition.

Finding the aforesaid petition to be sufficient in form and substance, it is hereby ordered that the same be set for hearing before this Court on MAY 10, 2017 at 8:30 o’clock in the morning.

Let a copy of this Order be published at the expense of the petitioner in a newspaper of general circulation in Lanao del Sur or Marawi City or Iligan City for three (3) consecutive weeks.

The Local Civil Registrar of Marawi City and the Civil Registrar General, or any person or party who has interest in the petition, may file his/her opposition thereto within fifteen (15) days from notice of this Petition or from the last day of publication of this Order.

Further, let this Order be posted for fifteen (15) days prior to the date of hearing in the Bulletin Board of the Local Civil Registrar of Marawi City and the Bulletin Board of this Court, at the expenses of the petitioner.

The petitioner is directed to notify this Court of the publication of this Order not later than three (3) days before May 10, 2017.

Furnish copies of this Order, together with the copies of the petition to the Local Civil Registrar of Marawi City, the Hon. Solicitor General, Makati City; and the Hon. Civil Registrar General, Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Sta. Mesa, Manila.
