The DC AgriXchange platform, which uses Facebook (www.facebook.com/ groups/399597173812721/), serves as a direct virtual trading portal for growers and buyers.

“We have more than 500 members online and we are encouraging farmers and potential buyers to take advantage of the online platform by joining the group,” CAO chief Leo Bryan D. Leuterio said in a statement.

Displaced families in Marawi receive Ramadan food packs

ARAWI City -- More than 300 internally displaced families currently residing in two tent city sites here received Ramadan food packs from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) government on May 15.

The distribution was led by the Humanitarian and Emergency Action Response Team (ARMMHEART) during the ARMM People’s Day in

the city.

Myrna Jo Henry, ARMM-HEART information officer, said the distribution of food packs will help the evacuees prepare for the Ramadan. The food packs contain rice, fresh fish, dried fish, loaves of bread, peanut butter, coffee, energy drink, sugar and other food items.

“As we observe the holiest month of Ramadan, may we find time to pray for the

lives of thousands who have been affected by the conflict,” ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman said.

Marawi City was under siege by elements of local terrorist groups on May 23 of last year.

With the terrorists occupying major parts of the city, fighting went on for months destroying properties and forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes.

prompt in extending its assistance to the evacuees since the crisis started. It immediately established a crisis management committee and several operation centers to facilitate the delivery of assistance to the affected families.

In June 2017, at least

a month since the siege started, the regional government released P77 million as assistance to the victims of the crisis.

ARMM-HEART also formed a rescue team that helped save civilians trapped in areas where heavy fighting was reported.

Filinvest net income rises 27% FILINVEST Development Corp. (FDC) delivered a 27% increase in its net income attributable to the parent for the first quarter of 2018, driven mainly by its property unit and investments in the hospitality and leisure sector.

In a regulatory filing, the Gotianun-led holding firm said it booked an attributable profit of P1.95 billion in the first three months of the year, versus the P1.53 billion in the same period last year.

Revenues went up 4.1% to P17.25 billion, with 46% coming from the property unit, 39% from banking, 11% from power, and 4% from sugar.

Revenues of Filinvest Land, Inc. (FLI) hit P6.33 billion during the quarter, up 7% year on year, leading to a 7% uptick in net income to P1.51 billion.

The listed property unit saw rental revenues grow 24% to P1.2 billion after opening new office and retail buildings last year. FLI now has 22 office buildings covering 348,000 square meters (sq.m.) in gross leasable area, with retail GLA at 239,000 sq.m. This places the company on track to

achieve its target of 1.5 million sq.m. by 2022.

FDC’s property revenues also got a lift from the 21% net income growth in the hotel segment to P67.3 million. Its unit, Filinvest Hospitality Corp.

(FHC), offers a total of 1,591 rooms across four properties carrying the Crimson and Quest brands.

FHC will be adding eight hotels offering a total of 1,700 rooms under its portfolio this year.

OLCIM Philippines, Inc. has outlined its priorities this year, including plans to seize opportunities brought about by an ongoing construction boom, its new head said.

John Stull, Holcim’s president and chief executive officer, said the

cement manufacturer and distributor will focus on operational improvements, tighter cost management and new building solutions.

He said the moves position the company to better benefit from and support strengthening construction activity in the country.

Mr. Stull announced

the company’s plans during the shareholder meeting on Friday in which he said Holcim aims to improve its ability to supply the market more efficiently and provide value-adding offerings to its building industry partners.

“Last year, we started projects to raise cement production capacity nationwide to 12 million

metric tons by 2019.

While these projects have just started, we are already considering more investments to raise clinker capacity given the positive projections for the construction industry,” he said.

PHILIPPINES AirAsia, Inc. is targeting to conduct its long-awaited initial public offering (IPO) before the end of 2018.

In an interview with reporters in Clark, Pampanga on Thursday, AirAsia Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Anthony Francis “Tony” Fernandes said the lowcost Philippine carrier still needs to secure clearance from its board to wipe out its negative equity, as well as resolve issues with the

Philippine Stock Exchange.

“We have a board meeting on May 25, and we are in the process of going through the regulatory issues with PSE. We need some clearances from the board to wipe out our native equity. So hopefully we can announce something in the next month or so, as to precise timing,” he said.

AirAsia Philippines initially scheduled to launch its IPO in 2016, postponing it several times.

Mr. Fernandes said the

company is now looking to raise more than the $250 million it had initially projected for its IPO. “We’re doing very well in the Philippines right now…

Mr. Fernandes said the Philippines is the last of its ASEAN units to be listed, including Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

Once all its Southeast Asian operators are listed, Mr. Fernandes said he intends to form one holding company for the AirAsia Group, allowing it to

become one economic unit in the ASEAN. “Now AirAsia Group owns 100% of Malaysia, 40% of Philippines, 49% of Indonesia, 45% of Thailand.

Eventually, I hope we can swap those shares into one company. So let’s say the 60% owned by Filipinos would be able to go up to AirAsia Group. So they wouldn’t just have a share of Philippines, they would have a share of the whole airline. That’s the idea,” he said.

It seemed that God didn’t listen my prayer any more. I didn’t get what I prayed for.

Of course, not... ! That’s not the meaning of praying to God. All my wishes will be granted? Heaven forbid!

Sometimes, after we have prayed, God’s answers may puzzle us. But as time times goes by and as events unfold we see God’s purpose in his answers. We might get a larger vision, what HE likes.

Not what WE like... .

Prayer is the only way of becoming what God wants us to be. This is the reason, why Jesus spent many hours in praying.

Unquestionable, our needs bring us to a place of prayer.

Confronted with danger or tragedies, as I mentioned earlier, we look for God’s help. Difficult times always cause the hearts of men to turn to God into prayer.

Let me ask you: How long has it been since your’re brought your burdens to G o d ? Since you aske d His forgiveness for your shortcomings?

In his very interesting book “People in Prayer”, Dr. John White reminds us that prayer is a divine-human interaction and it is always

This time, in 2018, they are again engaged in this dastardly act of rebelling against their leaders, in the hope of ousting, yet again, another sitting president who, at this time, is President Duterte. If by some quirk of a chance this new attempt at rebellion succeeds, it is a certainty that our country and its people will be plunged all over again in greater impoverishment, wrangling, and failures.

The bigger problem this 2018 is that, it is not just

going to be a slight difficulty or infighting that is going to hit the Philippines. Troubles would become bigger and graver and would cause some kind of a nuclear meltdown, as it were, in the country, considering that the terrorist threat from the ISIS continues to wreck havoc in Mindanao, and China is suddenly flexing its muscles as a giant superpower with nuclear warheads stored right inside our territorial waters at the South China Sea. -ooo FILIPINOS WITH REBELLIOUS MINDS BRING GOD’S CURSES: How did Filipinos get afflicted with a rebellious mind? The answer, as I see it, is terribly simple: a rebellious mind is the handiwork of the devil.

For is it not true that the very first rebel was the devil himself, no more no less, when he led an uprising against God? And why did

the devil rebel against God? Because he, the devil, wanted to be equal with God, which could never be.

How did the devil make the Filipino’s mind rebellious?

The answer is also greatly simple. The fact is that, Filipinos no longer have the mind of God---which is to say, the mind of the Filipino for so long a time no longer conforms to the will and commands of God. But how did it come about that Filipinos no longer conform to the will and commands of God? Because almost all Filipinos no longer read, no longer meditate, and no longer obey the Word of God, the Bible. Come to think of it, the faith or belief of Filipinos in God is now anchored simply on their own human intellect and understanding, which oftentimes war with the commands of God. meltdown/PAGE 8

Our greatest need that ideal and love ourselves instead of God. This is what we have to be most aware of and do something about. This is going to be lifelong struggle for us.

And the reason for that is because we often misuse our freedom, that God-given endowment that enables us to choose and to love. Instead of referring the exercise of our freedom to God always, we many times just refer it to our own judgments and estimations. It’sthis freedom that would determine whether we are with God or just by our own selves.

The challenge is how to make us feel that our greatest need is, in fact, God whom we ought to love first and last. He is the greatest good that we can aim at, infinitely better than any earthly good we can find in ourselves and in the world.

That is why Christ, when asked what the greatest commandment was, simply said that it is to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your

strength.” (Mt 12,29) But many times, we do not see this fact, this plain truth. It could be because we can think that we do not feel the need for God as much as feel the need for food, air, money, prestige, progress, etc.

It is actually a wrong reasoning to have, since all our material, natural and human needs are provided for by God in the first place. If there is no God, there would be no food, no air, no water, no money, no prestige and progress, etc.

Of course, there is also that tendency to think that things simply depend on us because we are increasingly capable of doing and accomplishing things. As if God has nothing to do with our capabilities!

We need to correct these anomalies and should really pause for time to time to consider certain basic and indispensable truths about ourselves. We are creatures of God who is a Father to us and who provides us with everything.

Our greatest need is actually God. He not only provides us

with our material, earthly and human needs. He gives us what is truly and ultimately necessary for us—our own salvation, our own reconciliation with God our Father whom we have wronged with our sins.

He gives us the grace that will definitely make us the image and likeness of God, adopted children of his.

We should find ways to make us feel not only our constant need for God, but also our immediate need for him. That’s because very often, we get carried away by the drama and the twists and turns of our earthly life. As a result, we often are confused and lost, or simply so mesmerized and affected that we fail to see things properly.

We need to wage some kind of revolution within ourselves to correct the errors of our times so that we will always feel the need for God and the urge to correspond to that need.

This may be a tall order, but it is not impossible at all! With God, everything is doable and achievable.

IDC joins Asia Property Awards 2018

T

he Asia Property Awards invited Cagayan de Oro’s own green developer, Italpinas Development Corporation represented by its chairman and CEO, Architect Romolo Nati during the Property Guru Asia Property Awards.

Founded in 2005 with an explicit trademark to acknowledge the finest real estate developers in Asia.

The Awards honor and recognize the exceptional accomplishments of developers and developments in a domestic and regional level.

This year, the Philippines Property

Awards successfully held the celebration last Friday, May 11, 2018, at the Fairmont Hotel Makati.

Several of different real estate developers were given the due honor during the event. IDC was invited

by Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL).

A leading professional services firm that specializes in real estate and investment management.

JLL is also IDC’s venture partner for the Miramonti project in Sto. Tomas Batangas.

IDC is a property firm with a strong bias towards building “green” structures. Established in 2009, it prides itself as a

“design-driven developer of sustainable properties.” Its flagship project Primavera Residences in Cagayan de Oro City attests to its partiality to alternative styles in architecture, a commitment that is expected to manifest as strongly in its ongoing Primavera City project in the same city. And the soon to rise Miramonti project in Sto. Tomas Batangas.

The more recent ones include a green building certification from the International Finance Corp., a member of the World Bank Group. The IFC has been the primemover behind an initiative

called “Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies,” and recognized IDC for its Primavera Residences.

PSA-10 Regional Director Ronaldo C. Taghap said the electricity subsector bounced back after a 5.5 percent drop in generation and 6.9 percent constriction in the electricity sales of distribution utilities, which he attributed to the unstable supply of electricity in 2016.

However, the generation sector recovered with an impressive 15.9 percent growth for 2017 as more units of the FDC Misamis Power Corporation coal fired power plant at the Phividec Industrial Estate in

Villanueva, and the Minergy Coal facility in Balingasag, both in Misamis Oriental, came online.

Data from the Department of Energy (DOE) shows gross generation rising 16.9 percent to 5,725,434 megawatt hours (MWh) from 2016 when it dropped 5.5 percent to 4,938,017 MWh from 5,224,333 MWh in 2015.

A closer look at the region’s Gross Generation data from 2015-2017 shows that coal fired power plants continued to gain a larger share of the power mix from 42% (2016) to 45% (2017) even as the traditionally renewable energy region hosting the Agus Hydropower Complex reverted to 44% due to favorable weather conditions and distribution utilities continued scaling

back from more expensive oil-fired power plants from 11% in 2016 to only 3% by 2017.

Electricity sales of distribution utilities performed even better with an 18.8 percent upsurge to 2,588,983 MWh in 2017 from 2,178,639 MWh in 2016 (which was a 6.9 percent reduction from 2,340,389 MWh in 2015) as households, industries and commercial establishments took advantage of the readily available power to ramp up previously suppressed expansion plans.

However, transmission sales dropped 8.5 percent to 2,230,470 MWh in 2017 from 2,178,639 MWh as grid op erator National Grid Corporation of the Philippines turned over many
