Briefly Credit program BUTUAN City -- The Department of Agrarian Reform in Agusan del Norte through the Agrarian Production Credit Program (DARAPCP) in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) provided with a total of P3.1 million for rice production covering an area of 99 hectares to 61 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) in Agusan del Norte in 2014. This was disclosed by OIC-Chief of Program Beneficiaries Development Division (PBDD) Raul Hermoso during the discussion of the 2014 accomplishment. The said recipients composed of two groups are New Generation Organic Farmers Producers Cooperative (NGOFPC) and Taguibo IPM Irrigators Association, Inc. in Los Angeles, Taguibo, Sumilihon and Sto. Nino Agrarian Reform Community (LATASS ARC). Rita Gerbolingo, farmerbeneficiary who tilled the 2.75 hectares of land said, “mapasalamaton gayod ako kay barato ang interest diin moresulta kini sa dako nga kita sa pagpanguma (I am thankful because aside from low interest, my income in farming has expanded).”

Surigao rural bank put under PDIC receivership S

CLAVER, Surigao del Norte – The town of Claver plans to set up four marine sanctuaries despite the siltation problem it faces due to large-scale mining activities. Glen Plaza, local project coordinator of the Integrated Coastal Resources Management under the office of Municipal Environment and Natural Res ources Office said these four marine protected areas are supported by municipal ordinance which will be approved before the local legislative here on Monday. He said these four marine resources are Kabujoan Reef in Barangay Lapinigan, Karaang Banwa Reef in Barangay

Urbiztondo, Lambuhan Reef in Barangay Hayanggabon Reef and Lambason Reef in Barangay Cagdianao. All these marine sanctuaries have a total of 163 hectares including buffer zones. Plaza told MindaNews on Monday that all of these marine protected areas have been damaged by both illegal fishing activities and mine silt. C ouncilor Jan Karol R. Broniola, chair of the Committee on Environment and Environmental Protection said this ordinance which is on third and final reading aims to achieved food and economic security as the

overriding consideration in the utilization, management, development and promotion through ecotourism, conservation and protection of the coastal, marine and fishery resources. Several fisherfolk here have been displaced because of the mining activities that destroyed part of their fishing ground. In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, Claver was among the major sources of marine products but fisherfolk say large-scale mining operations have destroyed its marine life. Surigaonon Rural Banking Corporation is a 10-unit rural bank with head offices located at the junction of Rizal and Gemina Streets in this city. It has another branch in the city, and in the cities of Tacloban, Cagayan de Oro, Davao and Butuan. Philex Petroleum swings to loss on weak oil prices PHILIX Petroleum Corporation is in the red in the first three months of the year. In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Philex Petroleum said it incurred a P44.2 million loss in the first quarter, reversing the P25.7 million profit in the same period last year. The company blamed the loss on Forum Energy Plc, which turned in lower revenues due to weak fuel prices and a drop in the p ro d u c t i o n o f S e r v i c e C ont r a c t 1 4 C 1 , w h i c h covers the Galoc, which is the Philippines’ only commercial oil field.

Richmonde Hotel Iloilo, which will open in June, will occupy eight levels of the 12-storey Richmonde Tower in the 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao, the company said in a statement yesterday. The business hotel will

be the first one under the Richmonde brand to be located outside Metro Manila. It will have 151 guest rooms. hilippine government peace panel chair Prof. Miriam C oronel-Ferrer has just received this year’s Hillary Clinton Award for Advancing Women in Peace and Security at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. In her gratitude speech for receiving the award, Coronel-Ferrer said that the Philippine peace process is “informed by the very goals of this award: to protect women against all forms of violence and advance the role of women in attaining peace and security in and outside of their homes. She deserves the award not only because she negotiated for peace and an end to an age-old conflict, but because she strongly advocates for the liberation of women in the Bangsamoro, who have endured the burden of strife. All women, Bangsamoro or not “must now secure their places in the public sphere as equal partners in peace and development. “ Congratulations to Ms. Ferrer because the award highlighted her “indefatigable work to bring about peace in the Philippines and for

Secondly, sex is personal. No one is just a body. God made us in His likeness with a mind, emotions, and soul. So the act of sex is not just physical. Just using someone’s body to give you physical pleasure and satisfaction is what animals do. A recent study in a certain Pacific country showed that each person had an average of 57 different sex partners during their lifetime. That is not God’s plan and purpose for sex. Real, satisfying sex is expressing your deepest love to the one person in the world whom you’ve chosen

The Philippine scouting movement, badly hurting from accusations of corruption against its top leaders, found a new hero in Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte who has vowed to protect the youth from drugs, crime and bad influence. Duterte, who is widely believed to stand against Vice President Jejomar Binay, also head of the Scouting organization in the country, in the Presidential contest next year, told leaders of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines during a national encampment in Davao City last week that the youth must be shielded from vices because they will be the leaders of the future.

The GSP’s choice of Duterte as their guest of honour and speaker during its 38th National Encampment in Camp Alano Davao City came as a surprise to many scouting followers. Traditionally, it is the Scouting Movement’s national head, Vice President Binay, who is invited as Guest of Honor. The Vice President, who has been criticized for overstaying as Boys Scouts of the Philippines head, was lately accused of selling off and disposing the BSP’s valuable properties in several areas all over the country in arrangements and prices which many said were grossly disadvantageous to

the organization. In his message to the Girl Scouts from all over the country, Duterte explained that the tough measures he implemented in the City, including the tough antismoking ordinance, the 1 a.m. curfew for drinking alcohol and his brutal campaign against drug dealers and criminals, are aimed at protecting the youth. He cited the scouting movement’s contributions in moulding the youth into becoming better citizens and leaders of the future but said the country’s leaders must serve as the role models and must exert extra efforts to safeguard the children.
