P9M for SPES THE provincial government of Misamis Oriental has spent at least PHP9 million for payment of wages under the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) since 2013, Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano said Thursday. He said that about 3,766 students and out-of-school youth had benefited from the summer job program administered by the Provincial Employment and Services Office in the last four years. The program is carried out in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) under Republic Act No. 9547, also known as “An Act to Help Poor but Deserving Students,” by providing students with jobs during summer or Christmas season.

Cacao farmers training ABOUT 20 farmers from Misamis Oriental completed Friday a four-day training on cacao farming at the EcoTourism Village in Cugman, this city, Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano said. Emano said the workshop was expected to encourage the farmers to produce quality cacao beans, which could provide them better market opportunities. Bryan M. Apatan, the provincial agriculture planning officer, said that the farmers were provided the latest technologies in high value crop production, particularly cacao. He said that the farmers were expected to adopt the diversified/integrated best practices in farming and the newest technologies for production, marketing and distribution designed to perk up the farm business.

Oro Council approves payment for second tranche of salary hike THE CAGAYAN de Oro City council has approved the payment of the second tranche of the salar y increase for about 2,000 city hall employees, Vice Mayor Joaquin Uy said Friday. Uy said the city council earmarked PHP 50.6 million for the implementation of the Salary Standardization

SM opens high-end mall in Cag. de Oro SM PRIME Holdings, Inc. is expanding its footprint in Mindanao with the opening of a second shopping mall in Cagayan de Oro City. In a statement, SM Prime said SM CDO Downtown Premier, with its 178,000 square meters of gross floor area, is set to open on Friday (May 12). “SM Prime is one with the government in creating more opportunities that highlight the economic growth potential of Mindanao. The opening of SM CDO Downtown Premier, which is at the gateway of Northern Mindanao, is our second SM mall in Cagayan de Oro, and fifth in Mindanao which reflects our commitment and confidence to this part of the country,” SM Prime President Jeffrey C. Lim was quoted as saying in a statement. The pageant hopefuls were recently presented to the local media as 14 official candidates as they showed what they got when they paraded on stage before hundreds of spectators at the San Francisco Evacuation Center with ambiance of first-class hotel function room.
