Briefly Anti-rabbies THE city of Cagayan de Oro will have a budget of P2.4 million this year for its Anti-Rabies Program under the City Health Department. This is specified in the Program of Works approved by the 17th City Council during the recent regular session presided over by Vice Mayor Caesar Ian E. Acenas through Ordinance No. 12734-2014. The ordinance appropriates the same amount from the item “NonOffice-Social Services: Reserve for Special Projects/Programs/Special Purpose Fund” in the 2014 General Appropriations Ordinance (GAP) to be made available for the purpose. Based on the POW submitted by City Health Officer D. Fe C. Bongcas, the amount will be used to purchase 1,212 anti-rabies vaccines.
Cacao production BUTUAN City -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Agusan del Norte promoted cacao growing to 65 farmer-leaders to increase productivity in the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) awarded lands during the Orientation on Cacao Production held on February 24, here. The project is a joint venture of DAR Agusan del Norte, Kennemer Foods International, Inc. (KFI) and GML Agri-ventures. Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) will play a vital role in financing the cacao planting program. The over-all goal of the program is poverty reduction and improving the quality of life of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries.

HE recent blackouts that enveloped the entire Mindanao grid has sustained damage to the generators of the 210-megawatt Steag coal-fired power plant in Misamis Oriental, a company statement said yesterday.
The plant operator Steag State Power Inc. (SPI)said that technical problems were detected in the turbine generators. “SPI is currently conducting a thorough assessment and inspection of the units and other plant systems,” the company said. According to SPI president and chief executive officer Dr.
Bodo Goerlich, “the company is working hard to restore the Mindanao coal-fired power plant back to the grid.” He indicated further “we have already mobilized all our resources to restore the units back on-line.” As to the timeframe of the plant operations’ restoration, however, the company was glitch/PAGE 10

MALAYBALAY City -- Parts of Bukidnon have been experiencing daily power outages since Feb. 26, a day
before Thursday’s Mindanaowide blackout. In a March 3 text advisory of the Bukidnon II Electric
Cooperative, Inc. (BUSECO), the latter blamed the power interruptions to the unsolved problem in the Mindanao Grid. The advisory said: “Our power supply contract is still not being followed as the system operator is saying … the Mindanao Grid is critical.” According to Juancho Chiong, manager of the Manolo Fortich branch of BUSECO, the electric cooperative has contracted outages/PAGE 10
