Dito’s 5G DAVAO City — DITO Telecommunity Corp. is aiming to bring in 5G technology to Davao City by 2022, simultaneous with the company’s planned rollout of the fifth generation (5G) technology in other parts of the country. As the newest telecommunications industry player prepares to officially launch services in the central and southern parts of the Philippines by March 8, DITO Chief Administrative Officer Adel A. Tamano said they are already planning on the network upgrade by next year. “Our purpose is to bring the first world not just 4G, but 5G technology in the Philippines so we will start off initially with 4G technology, but it is 4G convertible to 5G,” he said during the online forum hosted by the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. on Friday.

Vivant expansion GARCIA-led Vivant Energy Corporation has expanded its power investments in Mindanao, and this was concretized via an equity acquisition in power generation facility owned by Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri. In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), Vivant stated that, in tandem with its subsidiary firm Amberdust Holding Corporation (AHC), they will be acquiring 90-percent of the outstanding shares of the Bukidnon Power Corporation (BPC) and North Bukidnon Power Corporation. The majority shares purchase will require Vivant to pay P205,539,482.54 to seller BPC; and another P228,282,140.96 for the shareholdings of North Bukidnon Power. The two firms are owned by the lawmaker, whose family and vast properties are in Bukidnon.

Hydroponics farming pushed to restore Lake Sebu’s water quality By BONG SARMIEMTO, Mindanews

GENERAL Santos City -- The provincial government of South Cotabato is pushing for the expansion of hydroponics farming in the critical Lake Sebu to help improve the quality of its waters and overall condition. Siegfred Flaviano, head of the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO), said they are currently

working with the local government of Lake Sebu and other stakeholders for the establishment of more hydroponic gardens within the 354-hectare lake. He said studies showed that hydroponics, which is a method of growing plants or crops without soil and by using mineral nutrients in aqueous solution (a solution

in which water is the solvent), could be a “natural remedy” to the declining condition of the lake’s waters. Flaviano specifically cited the deterioration these past years of the lake’s dissolved oxygen level, a situation that has triggered perennial fish kills, with the latest recorded only last January. “The presence of more hydroponic gardens at the WATER/PAGE 6
