Fire trucks THE Bureau of Fire Protection in Northern Mindanao has turned over three units of high-end fire trucks to three cities in Northern Mindanao on Monday, acting Regional Fire Marshall Lynde Lauson said on Tuesday. He said that the fire trucks were for Cagayan de Oro City, Iligan City, and Malaybalay City fire departments. “This is the first time that Northern Mindanao received three fire trucks in time for the country’s celebration of the fire prevention month in March,” Lauson said during the turnover of the fire trucks at the city hall compound here. He said that the fire trucks have the capabilities to suppress fire efficiently. The reinforced fiber glass water tanks, with a load capacity of 1,000 gallons of water, do not rust and were 35 percent lighter than the ordinary tank.

AVAO City -- Mindanao groups are asking the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) to establish a contingency capacity that may be tapped in an emergency such as that of Feb. 27.

Villages funds SIX barangays in Cagayan de Oro City can now implement their respective infrastructure projects funded under their respective 20% barangay development funds. This after the City Council during its regular session Monday presided over by City Vice Mayor Caesar Ian E. Acenas passed separate resolutions returning the barangay ordinances covering 2014 annual budgets of Barangays No. 26, 27, 38, Pigsag-an, Tagpangi and Tumpagon noting among others that the ordinances are in order and may be given force and effect. Barangay Tumpagon allocated P273,750 of its P2,039,150 for the construction and fabrication of bleachers at the barangay covered court while Barangay Tagpangi allotted so much amount from its P2.2 million budget for the rehabilitation of its barangay swimming pool and construction of a public comfort room.

Troubles at the Agus 1 and other Mindanao power plants led to last month’s massive blackout. Romeo M. Montenegro, public affairs division head of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), said that this demand came out during meetings with representatives from government agencies and business chambers. The NGCP’s limitation, said Mr. Montenegro, is that it does not have any power

within the grid to contract even as Mindanao power supply has been in critical condition. The state firm said it would issue a statement on this issue but has not yet done so, as of press time. Mindanao experienced widespread blackouts in the early morning of Feb. 27 as several power plants tripped in succession, based on a statement on the Department power/PAGE 11
