Briefly Energy conservation MISAMIS Oriental 1 Rural Electric Service Cooperative Inc. (MORESCO-1) is urging its member-consumers to apply energy conservation as Mindanao is experiencing generation deficiency per advice of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). MORESCO-1 further advised member-consumers to use only electricity to what is vital and necessary, especially during peak hours, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily, until the load curtailment is lifted, otherwise, the whole of its franchise area will suffer and will be forced to shut down the available loads. Presently, the company said has not received yet any advice from NGCP as to how long this situation will last. Thus, MORESCO-1 is appealing for kind support and calling for action to conserve energy.

Tax drive THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region 16 launched on March 13 here its annual tax campaign dubbed “I love the Philippines, I pay my taxes right. It’s as easy as Register, File and Pay.” In the program, Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno emphasized that the name of the game is competition. He said that we are all competing for many things, best talents, integrity and good governance. He said that according to the National Competitiveness Council (NCC), a number of government offices and agencies have improved. Based on their latest rating, there is a big credibility gap from the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the BIR. He added that the role of government is to generate revenues. Through this, government can deliver basic services. He said, “The government can now afford because of the collection of taxes.”

Steag denies causing M’danao grid to fail T

HE Mindanao-wide power outage that happened on February 27, 2014 is now being blamed to Misamis Oriental’s 210-megawatt Steag State Power Inc. (SPI) power plant due to “unwanted loss of generation” of its units, but the company insisted the problem did not emanate from them.

On Saturday, the staterun National Transmission Corp. (TransCo) revealed the result of its investigation pinpointing to Steag’s reduced power generation as behind the power outage. “ T h e b l a c k o u t t h at happened in Mindanao was due to a demand and supply imbalance caused by a combination of events,” National Transmission Corp. President Rolando T. Bacani said.

Bacani said the reduction of Steag’s generation caused the Agus plants to trip even though the company, in a statement, said their move was “not expected to cause a cascading failure and tripping of other power plants and the collapse of the entire grid.” Specifically, these were “t he u nw ante d l o ss of generation of the Steag units ...
