Briefly Swift Marawi rehab TASK Force Bangon Marawi said Friday the government is doing its best to hasten the rebuilding of war-torn Marawi City, assuring the public that it will be done “without irregularities”.

“We want to assure everyone that we will do this as fast as we can but we will do it in the right manner and following the right procedures,” task force spokesperson Toby Purisima said during a Palace press briefing.

Purisima said six bidders have submitted unsolicited proposals on how to rebuild the most-affected areas composed of 24 barangays.

Mindanao projects DAVAO City – A business leader has expressed hope that projects lined up for Mindanao under the Duterte administration would be carried out.

Mindanao Business Council (MBC) chairperson Vicente Lao said the private sector will also work hard for it.

“Now that we have a Mindanaoan President, we have to maximize its benefits because of the big backlog on infrastructure and hopefully we will catch up,” he said on the sidelines of Friday’s Philippine Economic Briefing in Davao at the SMX Convention Center where Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez presented the flagship projects of the Duterte administration for Mindanao.

HE number of foreign tourists visiting Northern Mindanao last year has dropped dramatically as compared to its year-ago level.

The decrease has been attributed to the devastating six-month long bloody siege of nearby Marawi City which started in May and ended up in November last year, said National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) regional economic specialist Cecilio Clark Clarete on Thursday last week.

The Marawi invasion of the Maute group had prompted the government to impose a Mindanao-wide martial law, forcing embassies

from other countries to issue travel advisories for its citizens against travelling to the island.

Department of Tourism (DOT) 10 director Marie Elaine Unchuan earlier explained that travel advisories give weight since citizens who travel to areas under warnings are not covered by insurance.

Economy WFP provides food assistance to conflict-affected farmers in Marawi

ARAWI City -Farmers affected by fighting in Marawi are to receive food assistance from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) through the P12.4 million (€300,000) contribution from the Government of Italy to WFP. With the contribution, WFP will support 1,600 displaced farmers and their families over a period of three months, providing them with food assistance in exchange for their participation in agricultural activities to restore community assets.

Partners include the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Agrarian Reform, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the

Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

Stephen Gluning, WFP representative and country director, said the WFP is grateful to the Government of Italy for the contribution which will sustain ongoing relief and recovery operations to address the food needs of communities affected by the Marawi crisis.

“Thanks to Italian support, WFP will be able to provide rice to more than 8,000 people, complementing the Philippine Government’s operations,” he further said.

Meanwhile, Italian Ambassador Giorgio Guglielmino assured that Italy stands with the Philippine Government in its efforts to assist the people of Marawi.

“Our partnership with the World Food Programme will support the food needs of thousands of Filipinos as they rebuild their lives,” the Ambassador said.

Fighting between government forces and armed militant groups linked to the so-called Islamic State broke out in Marawi in May 2017.

Nine months after the start of armed conflict in Marawi, the Philippine Government and WFP have distributed rice to some 128,000 people and provided school meals to more than 57,000 students

in the provinces of Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur where displaced people affected by the conflict have relocated.

WFP is also mobilizing additional resources to cover the needs of its current operations until May, including early recovery activities that involve food and cashbased assistance. (WFP/ PIA-10)

ADB cited for aid in improving quality of life in Mindanao

DAVAO City -Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez on Friday cited the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for its continued support for the government’s infrastructure projects and initiatives, particularly in the implementation of the Brunei DarussalamIndonesia-MalaysiaPhilippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMPEAGA) agenda.

Dominguez said the ADB’s assistance to the Philippines at the strategic, operational, and administrative levels has helped the government implement the BIMPEAGA development project.

He said ADB has supported several major

initiatives for Mindanao, among them the ongoing socio-economic and community development projects with an overall goal of improving the quality of life for Mindanaoans.

Dominguez said the ADB has long been playing a key role in supporting projects, as well as other initiatives that aim to improve the quality of life in the South.

“The ADB has also been generously assisting us in funding important infrastructure projects that would spur economic development in this island,” Dominguez said in his speech at the press launch of the Philippines’ hosting of the 51st Annual Meeting of the ADB Board

of Governors at the SMX Convention Center.

Dominguez mentioned the USD380-million loan from the ADB that would help improve about 280 km. of national roads and bridges in the Zamboanga Peninsula and Tawi-Tawi.

The loan agreement was signed in January.

This project, he said, aims to expand economic opportunities in agribusiness, ecotourism, and logistics, improve access to markets, jobs, education, and health facilities.

A Chinese proverb states, and I quote, “Give a man fish and you feed him for a day, teach him how to fish and you feed him a lifetime.” I have been figuratively connecting this to other aspects in life. But this time, I relate the proverb literally to fishing.

My first trip outside the country was unexpected and exhausting but very worthwhile. It was NOT leisure. It was a seven (7)day tour of (practically entire) South Korea – from Seoul to Busan to Jeju Island— via plane, bus and feet-- to learn of this country’s fishing industry.

A backtrack on how this educational tour came about.

This is one of those stupid things that was actually said.

“If you bought our course on ‘How To Fly An Airplane In Six Easy Lessons,’ we apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused you by our failing to include the last chapter, ‘How To Land Your Plane Safely.’ Send us your name and address and we will immediately send you this last chapter on how to land your airplane safely.”

Can you imagine a pilot taking off in an airplane not knowing how to land it? Yet some of us ‘fly’ through life without ever thinking about how we are going to ‘land.’

Pilots are never even allowed to take off without a flight plan: knowing where they’re going and how they’ll get there.

But many of us are like the university student who said: “I don’t like to think about things until they happen.

Death is still a long way away.”

My grandmother used to tease my grandfather when he would leave the house to go for walks. She’d say to him: “Now dear, don’t go so far you can’t get back!” You know, that’s exactly what happens to us when we die. We’ve gotten so far we can’t get back. Each of us gets only one chance to live and then we have to die.

We only get one chance to ‘fly’ before we have to ‘land.’

“What goes up, must come down.” Ready or not, we’re going down! So we need to prepare for landing while we’ve still got time.

How about you? Do you know where you would ‘land’—if your life ended today? You see, we cannot know what’s going to happen to us tomorrow so we must be smart and sure we’re ready today! Just ask Jesus Christ to forgive you for your past wrongs and to take charge of your life every day. That’s the way you can live with total peace of mind that whenever your life ends, 5 years from now or 5 days from now, you know you’re ready for a safe landing.

Just Think a Minute…

It was an all-expense paid by the Cooperative.

During the one-week trip, we practically hopped from hotel to hotel (not exactly five-stars but business class, if I may say so), eat from restaurant to restaurant (actually Korean food), fly twice within the country and was served full-time by VIP tourist buses. I’m not really good in numbers but based on the experience, I can say the expenses was substantial.

I highly admire how this Cooperative of fishermen takes care of all its memberfishermen; and I mean all-regardless of the size or fleet of the fishing vessels they own.

To s t a r t w i t h , t h e Cooperative has a hightech Telecommunications Center in Incheon, which keeps track of all these vessels sailing on the waters of SOK. (I’m also no tekky, so please indulge me with this layman’s observation) The center has a huge real-time digital map of the waters within the jurisdiction of SOK with spot-like red lights signifying the location of these fishing vessels. When

a vessel is in distress, it sends out signal (that’s when the red light starts to blink) to the tower and the Federation immediately deploys help.

When the tower smells that something is not right within the area, especially the tendency to enter the waters of North Korea, it sends out a signal to the vessels for them to go back to shore.

If I am the fisherman in those vessels and I know that someone has my back, then my only concern is just how to catch more fishes from the ocean and how to sell these to the market.

But then, the Cooperative takes care of the market too.

All these fishing vessels dock and bring their catch directly at the markets owned by the cooperative.

We were able to observe the early morning activities (one at a time, of course) in the Noryangin Fish Market in Seoul, Busan Cooperative Market, and Halim Fish Market in Jeju Island.

Municipality of Cordova, Cebu, Mary Therese P. SitoyCho and husband Charlie Cho, invited Im Kweon Kim, President and Chairman of the Korean National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives (Cooperative) to visit the town, observe its fishing activities, and solicit from Mr. Kim, inputs on how the fishermen in the town can improve their catch.

Fishing, by the way, is one of the major economic activities in Cordova.

Apparently, Chairman Kim wanted to do more than share inputs, as an invitation from the Cooperative for a delegation from Cordova to visit some of its membercooperatives in the Republic of Korea (ROK) came few months after his visit.

Being the municipality’s consultant on information, tourism, economic and investment promotions, I was invited to join the group, together with the Mayor herself, four of the town’s Sanggunian Bayan members, three municipal d e p ar t me nt he a ds and 10 leaders of fishermen organizations in Cordova.

ignacio bunye This early, I am willing to bet that in the forthcoming bar exams late this year, two very likely questions in Political Law would involve Quo Warranto and Impeachment.

To be more specific, the potential questions would revolve around quo warranto against a sitting Supreme Court Chief Justice (CJ) and impeachment of a CJ. If I were the Bar Examiner, I would chose these for the following reason: They would test not only a bar candidate’s

knowledge of the law but, just as important, also of current political and social events.

A s a p o t e nt i a l b a r question, these two issues are closely inter-related and must necessarily be asked together.

While there are specific legal provisions on quo warranto, there has been no prior quo warranto brought against a CJ. It is the first case of its kind. The decision of the Supreme Court could go any which way.

In the case of impeachment, it will only be the second impeachment case against a CJ in our legal history.

To be sure, the remaining Associate Justices in the SC, will be reading and quoting the same exact legal provisions. They will be relying on the same rules of statutory construction that have been drilled on

any freshman law student.

But how they individually interpret the law is entirely one’s own.

Seldom is there 100 per cent unanimity among the SC justices on most cases brought before the highest court. In many cases, there are dissenting opinions.

There are also some so-called separate opinions.

The Supreme C our t decisions form part of the law of land. Decisions today are relied upon in making decisions tomorrow. But It also sometimes happens that a dissenting opinion today becomes a majority opinion tomorrow.

I once asked a retired ju s t i c e h ow h e v ot e d .

Candidly, he described his personal formula: Law plus Circumstance equals Decision. He explained that he always considered the context under which a decision is called for.

As ap p l i e d t o t h e n Candidate Rodrigo Duterte, there was a technical ground for disqualifying Duterte. But the majority justices felt that the defect in his certificate of candidacy was not fatal and the matter was better left for the electorate to decide.

Foregoing considered, when I am asked what the law on a particular issue is, I now give this standard reply : The law is what a majority of the Supreme Court justices say so.

In all likelihood, a decision on the quo warranto against CJ Sereno would be rendered very soon, certainly way before the next bar exam.

If I were Bar Examiner, I would give 9 points for an answer that correctly quotes the majority decision. But I would give a 10 for an answer which discusses both the majority and the dissenting opinion. tip/PAGE 10

Del Monte Pacific swings to net loss in Q3 In a disclosure to the stock exchange on Thursday, the canned fruits manufacturer reported a net loss attributable to the parent of $38.369 million in the third quarter ending January, against an attributable profit of $8.53 million in the same period a year ago.

This includes a one-off expense of $39.8 million in deferred tax assets from DMPL’s US subsidiary, Del Monte Foods, Inc. (DMFI), as the US government changed federal income tax rates to 21% from 35%.

The unit further wrote off $6.8 million for the third quarter, after closing its underperforming Sager Creek vegetable business.

Excluding oneoff expenses, DMPL’s attributable profit would have stood at $3.42 million, 70% lower than the $11.64 million it generated during the same

Sales for the November to January period dipped by 0.7% to $599.8 million, pulled down by a decrease in processed pineapple exports and lower pineapple juice concentrate prices.

DMFI accounted for 75% of the group’s sales or $451.5 million, up 0.2% year on year. The company said it has been introducing new products to the US market, boosting the market share of canned vegetable and fruit, plastic fruit cups, and broths in the country.

Chelsea Logistics bids for dev’t of Davao, Panglao airports

HELSEA Logistics Holdings Corporation (CLC) has submitted its unsolicited proposal for the development and management of the Davao and New Bohol (Panglao)

international airports to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

CLC will operate and maintain the two airports while implementing various improvements to meet future passenger and

aircraft movements for a concession period of 30 years.

DENR to LGUs: Be prepared for increased garbage this summer

T

he Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is urging local officials to plan ahead on how to manage increased volume of garbage this coming summer season.

“Local government officials should amplify their measures in managing wastes particularly in tourism sites as we expect an increased volume of garbage with the arrival of tourists this summer season,” Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu said.

Cimatu said local officials should put more trash bins in tourist sites to encourage proper waste disposal.

He also appealed to tourists to be responsible for their wastes and avoid littering especially along the shorelines and in the waters.

“We do not want the same situation in Boracay Island to happen to other

vacation sites. LGUs should be keen in monitoring waste issues in their areas of jurisdiction.

Segregation activities should be strictly implemented.

Tourists should also throw their garbage only in designated trash bins,” Cimatu emphasized.

RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 mandates the segregation of solid wastes which includes the order that LGUs shall divert at least 25 percent of all solid waste disposal facilities through use, recycling and composting activities and other resource recovery activities.

Under the law, wastes should be segregated as ‘compostable,’ ‘non-recyclable,’ ‘recyclable’, ‘residual waste’ and other appropriate classifications.

Compostable

wastes or biodegradable wastes are wastes that can be broken down to non-poisonous substances through the natural action of microorganisms. These include food wastes and soiled paper and wood. Similarly, residual wastes are wastes that are nonbiodegradable, noncompostable and non-recyclable.

The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) said residual wastes should be disposed through a long-term disposal facility or sanitary landfill. Residual wastes include among others Sanitary napkins, disposable diapers, worn-out rugs, cartons with plastic lining used for milk and juice containers, ceramics, candy wrappers or sachets and other soiled materials that cannot be composted and recycled.

Meanwhile,

recyclable wastes are waste materials that can still be converted for beneficial use.

Some of these are newspaper, ferrous scrap metal, non-ferrous scrap metal, corrugated cardboard, aluminum glass, glass, office paper, and tin cans.

Improper waste disposal especially along the shorelines

affects marine life.

Plastic products like PET bottles, candy wrappers sando bags and the like pose a threat to marine life that are prone to mistake plastic trash as food.

As increased tourist arrivals lead to a sharp rise in waste generation, Cimatu said LGUs in tourist cities should strictly

enforce segregation of wastes to avoid environmental problems such as uncollected garbage and soil contamination among others.

Cimatu said the DENR can provide technical assistance and support to LGUs in terms of development of solid waste management plans.

DENR honors 28 outstanding wildlife law enforcers The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has recognized 28 law enforcement officers for their contribution to government efforts to end illegal wildlife trade.

Marking the local celebration of the World Wildlife Day on March 2, the DENR—through its Biodiversity Management Bureau—gave out gold, silver and bronze medals to officers from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) who became its partners in enforcing wildlife laws and regulations during the past year.

DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu commended the awardees for their vital role in the arrest and filing of cases against wildlife crime offenders, and the rescue of various wildlife species, most of them are considered endangered.

Cimatu said the battle against wildlife crimes requires a combination of strategies, thus the DENR has been employing the 3Es: education, engagement and enforcement.

“The DENR is strongly resolved to fight wildlife crimes.

However, combatting wildlife crimes require a combination of strategies,” Cimatu said in his keynote address, as read by Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Rodolfo Garcia, during the awarding ceremony held at BMB Training Center in Quezon City.

According to Cimatu, educating the public and engaging them are both crucial in the fight against wildlife crime.

“The third E is the reason why we are here—to give proper recognition to those who have distinguished themselves in enforcing the law to protect our wildlife,” Cimatu said.

PH gov’t financing up 77.84% in 2017 M ANILA -Government’s borrowings rose by 77.84 percent yearon-year in 2017.

Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) data showed the total financing last year amounted to P901.672 billion, up from the P507.02 billion in 2016 as the government bids to fund more infrastructure projects in particular.

The bulk of these

financing, amounting to P733.6 billion, was borrowed from domestic fund sources through the regular Treasury bond (T-bond) and Treasury bills (T-bills) auction.

Last year, the government also issued retail treasury bond (RTB) to take advantage of the still low-interest environment and allow small investors to take part in the government’s

program to finance its projects.

The government issued P181.852 billion worth of RTBs in April last year and P255.251 billion last December.

The balance of P168.1 billion in government financing last year was sourced from external sources.

The government has been prioritizing domestic borrowings

over external borrowings given the low-interest rate environment and to limit any exchange rate fluctuation risks.

Domestic borrowings last year rose by 105.2 percent from year-ago’s P357.497 billion.

External borrowing during the same period registered a lower growth of 12.4 percent from P149.523 billion in 2016.

Banks’ real estate loans sustain rise in 2017 LOANS extended by the Philippines’ banking system to the real estate sector continued to increase but share of real estate loans (REL) to bank’s total loan portfolio (TLP), exclusive of interbank loans, went down in the last quarter from end-March 2017.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) data showed that as of end2017 total REL reached P1.8 trillion, higher than the P1.71 trillion in the previous quarter and the P1.6 trillion in endMarch last year.

Commercial REL accounted the bulk of the total REL at P1.2 trillion while the residential REL shared the remainder at P608.1 billion.

Also, Real Estate Investment (REI) at the end of last year went up to P276.97 billion, down from quarter-ago’s P295.82 billion but an increase from the P270.47 billion at the end of the first quarter.

Investments in real estate company-issued debt securities reached P174 billion at the end of last year, lower than

RCBC eyes double-digit income growth this ‘18 RIZAL Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC) targets to sustain its double-digit income growth this year after an 11 percent expansion in 2017.

The bank ended 2017 with an income of P4.3 billion, partly boosted by the 16 percent growth in total customer loans portfolio.

RCBC President and CEO Gil Buenaventura said they “like it to be higher” for this year.

“We’re in the lending business so growth would come from the lending side also,” he said in a briefing Friday.

Last year, the bank

posted across-the-board increase in its loan portfolio, led by the 39 percent rise of loans to small and medium enterprises (SMEs), followed by the 29 percent in credit card receivables, 15 percent increase in consumer loans, and 12 percent uptick in corporate loans.

To date, consumer loans account for about 20-26 percent of the total portfolio, SME, 12 percent; and the remainder by corporate loans.

RCBC Corporate Planning head Chrissy Alvarez said they are putting more effort on the consumer and SME

business in line with the sustained domestic expansion.

Last January, the bank announced a plan to raise up to P15 billion its additional capital through stock rights offering (SRO), proceeds of which will be used to strengthen loans business, among others.

In a disclosure, the bank said it targets to focus on consumer, middle market and the microfinance sectors through sustainable loan expansion.

“Through that capital we hope to support loan growth in the next three years,” Alvarez said in the

same briefing.

RCBC Savings Bank Rommel S. Latinazo, on the other hand, said RCBC’s thrift banking arm registered its recordhigh profit of P1.35 billion in 2017 after it rose 34 percent year-on-year.

He attributed the strong increase in income to “expansion of core consumer loan portfolio, and some efficiencies in terms of cost management.”

Raoul told me he felt tremendously better after that. When they called me in the morning of Friday, March 9, 2018, they were quite profuse in their expressions of gratitude. Indeed, who would not feel thankful---not only has Raoul successfully moved the bowels he was unable to discharge for the last 10 days, not only did the pain in his stomach greatly vanished, but his doctors also withheld the operation he was to undergo.

I visited them in the afternoon of Friday at their hospital ward, and was I surprised to see Raoul already walking about inside the hospital. The good color of his face and skin has returned, and he was telling me he was already asking his doctors to allow him to be discharged and to go home. Indeed, they have a lot to thank God for, with what has happened to them.

Latinazo said they need to be “conservative” and take the cue from industry players.

He, however, stressed that “we have a pretty good coverage of the market and that is what is giving us the confidence” amid increased competition.

RCBC officials, meanwhile, expect domestic interest rates to go up this year.

They expect the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to hike rates by a total of 50 basis points this year and this is seen to start in March.

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is seen to grow by seven percent this year, higher than last year’s 6.7 percent and is the lower end of the government’s seven to eight percent target for 2018-22.

The peso is seen to touch the 52.75 level to a US dollar but end the year at 50.90 to 51-level.

Inflation is seen to range between four and 4.5 percent this year based on the 2006 base year and end the year close to four percent using the 2012 base year.

and Economic Briefing at the SMX Convention Friday, Kelly Bird, country director of ADB Philippines, said the budget would cover the cost of the High Priority Bus System (HPBS), the local government’s attempt to decongest the city.

Bird explained that they are completing the design of this new bus system and that they are eyeing to complete this year for submission to the National Economic Development Authority for approval this year.

“There’s a little bit of work to do because when you are modernizing public transport system, it’s a lot of details, a lot of issues to think about. We’ve gone through that now, so we are looking

at what those bus terminals can look like,” he said.

He added that they are also making a study of the project’s impact on the community.

“We still got this technical work to complete. We are certainly focused on it and we are aware of the government’s timeline, we hope we will get that to the NEDA board this year,” Bird added.

Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez said they expect the bus modernization project to improve the public transport infrastructure and services in the city.

The city has been attracting a number of investors and tourists, causing major traffic congestion during peak hours in the city’s downtown area, since its former mayor, Rodrigo R. Duterte, became the first Mindanawon president.

Aside from the new bus system project, Dominguez added the ADB has also supported several major i n it i at i v e s t o i mp rov e the quality of life of the Mindanawons, including, among others, the ongoing socioeconomic and community development projects.

In an interview at the sidelines of the Economic Briefing, City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) head Ivan Cortez said that the city is proposing a government subsidy of P110,000 for every operator and P85,000 that covers the six-month income of every driver.

He added a different set of government subsidy would be provided for drivers who would be employed in the bus system.

Cortez added that the consultants hired by ADB are expected to submit the feasibility study to Department of Transportation (DOTr) by end of this month.

T h e D O Tr a g r e e d to exclude the city government from the jeepney modernization and supported its plan to push through with

the bus system project, Cortez said.

“The DOTr likes the plan of Mayor [Sara Duterte].

They just want to straighten out the s o cial package program because what we are proposing does not fit to what they offer,” he said.

If parties would agree on the social package scheme, Cortez said the DOTr would make a recommendation to the National Economic Development AuthorityInvestment Coordination Committee (NEDA-ICC) that will process the loan package for the HPBS from the Asian Development Bank.

“Given the directive to hasten the infrastructure projects, I don’t think they (DOTr) will delay it. For as long as all papers are ready for evaluation, they will take action,” he said.

Once t he ADB loan is approved, Cortez said t he y exp e c t t he init ial implementation phase to commence by 2019. This will include acquisition of roadright-of-way; construction of bus stops, bus depots, and terminals; and retrofitting of intersections.

The full implementation of HPBS may take place by 2020 or 2021, he said.

Cortez said the HPBS requires three to six operators and local bus operators are welcome to bid for as long as they meet the specifications of the bus system, including the number of fleet.

He said they plan to build three bus terminals at the city’s three entry-exit points – Toril, Panacan, and one along Bukidnon-Davao Highway – so that passengers entering the city will ride the bus system to lessen the number of vehicles plying within the city.

Mindanao Railway Project Phase 1, Segment 1 (Tagum, Davao City and Digos) worth PHP35.26 billion.

Dominguez said the projects demonstrated the commitment of the Duterte administration to move Mindanao from the margins and make it a center for agriculture and industry.

He said the administration wants to transform Mindanao into a premier investment site, and that it will be at the "front and center" of the “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure program that the government is aggressively implementing to further stimulate the economy and link isolated communities to the mainstream of growth.

On May 3-6, the Philippines is hosting the 51st ADB Annual Meeting with the theme, “Linking People and Economies for Inclusive Development”.

“This is an apt theme.

Although the region leads the world in the pace of growth, we know that some communities and local economies have been left out of the process of more efficient wealth-creation,” Dominguez said.

He said the country is "suitably positioned" to host this year’s ADB annual meet, seen to draw about 3,000 influential people who would bring stories back to their countries that the Philippines is a good place to invest in.

No fish is put to waste, and, most importantly, no fisherman’s hard work is left unpaid for. I feel that most of the fishermen I crossed path with in SOK has HIGH RESPECT for himself and for the job; and this is what a FISHERMAN and the COMMUNITY must have for the FISHING profession.

At the end of ever y day of that seven-day trip, my respect for the fishing indust r y heig htene d. I realized how this industry, if prioritized and provided with much-needed support like knowledge and technology, can bring so much abundance to a fisherman’s life, his family and the country.

Ye s , m y “ K - p o p” experience may taught me only a few Korean words— annyeong haseyo (hello); pali-pali (faster); and gamsahamnida (thank you)— which I still have difficulty to pronounce, but it has stirred an advocacy in me. Isuzu Iloilo took home ‘2017 Dealer of the Year Award’

suzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) recently recognized its top performing dealers in 2017, through its annual dealer awarding ceremony. Besting 21 other Isuzu dealerships nationwide, Isuzu Iloilo receives its first-ever Dealer of Year Award in 2017.

Lead by IPC President Hajime Koso, the annual awarding ceremony recognizes not just its top dealers but the combined efforts of the entire Isuzu dealership network. “We are proud of what we are able to achieve record breaking sales of more than 30,000 units last year, on top of that significant increase on the parts and service - all these are a result of the hard work provided by our dealer network,” said Koso.

During the event, IPC awarded its over-all top performer – Isuzu Iloilo, followed by top contender Isuzu Cagayan De Oro (2nd place) and then Isuzu San Pablo (3rd place).

Isuzu Iloilo Branch Manager, Rene Tagamolila and officers from the dealership were present to receive the award. “There is no single strategy to achieve this award, all year-round we are focusing on the needs of our customers, not just in sales but most importantly in parts & service. We’re just really thankful that all our efforts are being recognized through this award,” Tagamolila said.
