Briefly ICT competence AN official from the Department of Information Communication Technology (DICT) during the launching of the ICT Skills Training and Internship Center in Cagayan de Oro City on 23 June cited among the challenges in the Information Technology – Business Process Outsourcing (IT-BPO) sector is the availability of competent talent. Deputy Executive Director Monchito B. Ibrahim, eInnovation Group of DICT explained that there are many jobs unfilled because we lack people who have the skill. He said that Cagayan de Oro is becoming one of the IT-BPO hubs in the country and among the top 10 next wave cities. This means that the city is open for business and has the qualified people to work in the industry. He added that the BPO sector does not just comprise call centers but also include financial accounting, legal and health transcription, and virtual assistance, among others.

DAVAO City -- The regional office of the Agriculture department is providing quality seeds to farmers here in its bid to sustain corn production. The agency’s regional director, Remelyn R. Recoter, said the office has prepared about 17,000 bags of seeds for next year, higher than the about 15,000 bags of open pollinated variety of seeds it is distributing this year. F o r t h i s y e a r ’s interventions, about half of the total was given to the farmers who suffered the impact of drought that ended early this month.
