Briefly Travel show DAVAO City– The City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) will promote Davao City's new destination sites through its newly-launched online travel show “Laag Davao” (Explore D a v a o ) .

Referendum set to split Maguindanao province

Fishery slump BUTUAN City– The Philippine Statistics Authority in the Caraga Region (PSA-13) reported a 7.6 percent drop in fisheries production in the area last year.

 The report was based on the Fisheries Production Survey (FPS) by the PSA-13 for 2021.

 It said the region’s fisheries production last year was recorded at 61,561 metric tons, which is lower by 5,040 metric tons compared to the 2020 production of 66,601 metric tons.

Taxi subsidy DAVAO City — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Davao Region (LTFRB-11) announced on Tuesday that 5,196 taxi units will be awarded with the Pantawid Pasada Fuel Subsidy Cards this June 2 5 . 

 “ T h e f u e l s u b s i d y cards will be received by the taxi operators upon compliance of the forms at the LTFRB-11 Office in Libby Road, Bago Gallera,” LTFRB-11 said i n a s t a t e m e n t .

COTABATO CITY – The Maguindanao provincial government has set aside PHP100 million to fund the September 17 plebiscite to split the province into two. The C ommission on Elections (Comelec) has earlier set the referendum following the ratification of Republic Act (R.A) 11550, which mandates the creation of two provinces up on approval by the majority of the votes cast by the voters in 36 municipalities of Maguindanao. “The people will decide t h rou g h t h e pl e bi s c ite

whether to ratify or not the law creating Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte,” said lawyer Cyrus Torreña, the provincial administrator.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed the law on May 27, 2021, but the Comelec decided to delay the referendum last year to give more time to prepare for the May 2022 national and local elections. Region 12 and the Bureau of Quarantine already upgraded the province’s zoning status to red following the emergence of confirmed ASF cases in the last three months in at least two municipalities. More than 400 backyard hogs have been culled since March in parts of Banga and Surallah towns due to the

ASF contamination. “The hog industry is one of our economic drivers and I’m worried because this problem, if not corrected, would greatly affect our economy in the coming months,” the governor said at the provincial capitol’s weekly convocation program.
