Briefly Livelihood assistance THE government will extend livelihood assistance to residents of Marawi City once clashes between troops and the terrorist Maute Group end, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said Thursday. In a media briefing, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) chief noted that they will provide livelihood assistance packages to residents of Marawi City, similar to those extended to residents of Tacloban City when it was badly hit by Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. Lopez said food business will be the “default livelihood” as soon as the situation in the conflict-affected area starts to normalize. He mentioned that the government, through the DTI, is likely to provide materials to start livelihood activities.

Investment confab DAVAO City -- Conglomerates as well as the British and European business chambers have committed to join the 4th Davao Investment Conference (ICon) on July 21-22, a move that the city’s business chamber cited as a sign of support for investment opportunities in the region despite the declaration of martial law in Mindanao. THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) stands ready for the rehabilitation efforts in Marawi City as soon as clashes end in the area. DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez said in a briefing Thursday that the agency was looking at the availability and price stability of construction materials in Mindanao, which will source the materials needed for rebuilding of physical infrastructure in Marawi City. “After this assurances on food supply, we have to be

prepared for the construction supplies,” Lopez said. “ We a r e m a k i n g ar rangement now w it h construction material suppliers to look into creating buffer stock in the area,” he said. He added that aside from the availability of supplies, the DTI needs to ensure that construction materials particularly cement, steel, and roofing materials, meet the standards.
