Vis-Min projects THE Philippines and Japan signed yesterday two loan agreements for two big-ticket projects in the Visayas and Mindanao under the “Build, Build, Build” program, the Department of Finance (DOF) said. As the Duterte administration ramps up its infrastructure investments to let the country recover quickly from the coronavirus-induced recession, the DOF and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed P75.5 billion, about 154 billion yen, worth of infrastructure projects. Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III and JICA Chief Representative Eigo Azukizawa signed the agreements for the P57 billion (JPY119 billion) loan to support the construction of the Cebu-Mactan Fourth Bridge.

SM reopens dine-in DINING services in SM Supermalls in Davao resumed on June 15, following the go signal given by the local government as guided by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases. Dozens of restaurants and food establishments in both SM malls in Davao opened at 30 percent capacity and implemented standard health protocols to ensure both employee and customer safety. HE rehabilitation of the Agus-Pulangi hydroelectric complex (APHC) in Bukidnon will soon gets underway as the state-owned National Power Corp. (Napocor) has already started conducting various assessments and inspections of the power plants with the funding already approved through a loan from the World Bank amounting to $300-million.

The government is expecting the release of the fund by June next year. T he proj e c t w i l l b e implemented jointly by the state-owned National Power Corp. (Napocor) and the private-run Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM) “due to the fragility and conflict in Mindanao,” the World Bank noted.

“ The Agus-Pulangi hydropower complex has been the backbone of the power-generation system in Mindanao for decades and the government of the Philippines has requested the bank to support its rehabilitation. Most of the Agus-Pulangi plants have been in operation for more than three decades and REHAB/PAGE 7
